Never make a loan to family or friends with the expectation it will be paid back. Always get a promissory note no matter who you lend to. Take a secured interest (creditor in possession of goods or such of value) or buy the interest with an option for the borrower to buy them back by a certain date or they fully revert to lender, who can sell them to cover anticipated loss (like a pawnshop). My 13 and 14 year-old kids know this. They learned it in their middle school business class.

I just got off the phone with Marc.
I told him of all the offers you guys made to help him out and he asked me to post a HUGE Thank You to all of you.

If he owes you cigars, he asked if you would PLEASE PM me and let me know what he owes you, so that he doesn't short anyone, and also that he doesn't miss anyone altogether.
This would also give me an idea of how much $$$ would be needed to get these cigars in the mail.

As far as making a donation, as it stands right now, he does not have internet access, and cannot get into his PayPal account. One option that we talked about was to send the money to me and I would put it all together and mail it to him at his neighbor's address.
If you have any other thoughts or ideas, please feel free to post them and we'll take it from there.
I don't know how many of you remember, but a few years ago, we all got together and flew a BOTL, (pablo), from Hawaii to CigarFest. If we can accomplish something of THAT magnitude, I don't see why we can't get something done for PPP.

Again, I would like to thank everyone for their concern and compassion for Marc and his unfortunate situation.

Of course PPP should make good. He said he will when he can. Either that has to be good enough, or you have to let it go. There are no other options. The guy is in about as desperate a situation as one can be in the US, so he's not going to get you the stuff this week or anything. These are the facts. Yet all I hear is "it's not fair."

News flash: FAIRNESS DOES NOT EXIST. There is no such thing. What we think of as "Fairness" is just a warped sense of justice, tainted by our own selfishness. We all want what we want, and justice is great when it's for US or in OUR favor. That's what fairness is, and it's a crock.

Sure it's not "fair" that PPP didn't send some people their cigars before he was evicted. It's also not "fair" that such a great guy is now living in the situation he's in! Plenty of "unfairness" to go around. But its' a crock.

Life sucks, deal with it or don't. But if you spend your life whining about what happened in the past or how the present isn't what it should be, now you've wasted whatever opportunities actually might have been available to you in this life.

So to those who Marc owes stuff to--you either have to let it go or cut him slack until he can make good. And to Marc--I'm praying for you, brother!!

I've had limited email exchanges with PPP, and he seemed friendly. Financial ruin and homelessness are certainly a horrible thing that no upstanding person should have to endure.

Just a thought?

Wouldn't be better if his friend took HIM in, instead of his cigars, while he worked a fast food or retail job and tried to get back on his feet?

I must be missing part of the equation here.

As I was following this thread, I was thinking the same thing. Who says "Your cigars can stay but your not welcome"
I was just wondering, I dont know the details, and for all I know the friend has a 1 bedroom loft with no extra room and the cigars are just sitting in a little spot in the corner.
Not judging the friend, it just had me thinking

^^^^ The same thought occurred to me, initially. However, there are a lot of things we don't know. His "friend" may be just an acquaintance or former coworker - I know a lot of people that I'd feel comfortable asking to keep a humi, or even my cat, but certainly not myself - there could be family stress at the friend's home that simply won't accommodate an outside presence at this time, there may not be room for guests, as was mentioned, PPP himself may not be comfortable with being taken in - a LOT of things we don't know. I have also found myself wondering about his family - if he has any in the area at all or if he could move to stay with a sibling or something... but again, we don't know all of the circumstances. As for getting back on his feet, as the mother of a teenager, I have to tell you that those fast food and retail jobs aren't always as easy to come by as they used to be - I'm sure PPP has looked and is continuing to look for ANY kind of work, regardless of his housing situation. Still hoping and praying that something will come through for him, that he CAN get back on his feet, and that his life will soon be better than it has ever been... but don't forget to THANK God for providing a place for him right now. Shelters suck, but they're a blessing to those who need them, as are the good people who run them.

DaQueen is right about Fast Food jobs not being as easy to get as they used to be.
Marc applied at several places and was told that he was a "bad employment risk".
It seems you have to be either real young or real old. Any age in between , they feel you will quit as soon as something better comes along.

People shouldn't have to "let it go". I'm sure if he owed you, you would chime in. The people he owes didn't put him into this position so it's not their fault. Sure life is unfair but if every time someone got screwed in a deal, and thats what was said, nobody in the community would feel comfortable trading/buying/selling cigars.

Or is hitlist a word and hit list a different? I'll shut up.

Can't whoever is holding his cigars hold him for a little bit until he gets back on track?

Well, so far NOBODY has contacted me, so I will put it out there again.

If Marc owes you cigars, PM me with what is owed so I can figure out how much will be needed for postage to get them flying.

ALSO,
TZ was kind enough to offer to be the "delivery guy" if anyone wants to send a donation.
You can PM him directly for his address.

Thanks.

Oh I understand, but I'm just being realistic. There are no options besides letting it go or cutting him slack until he gets back on his feet. If it were me, I'd at least cut him slack. Let's help him get back on his feet, because that's the right thing to do, not because it will get some people their cigars faster.

There will come a day when we all have to make an account for what we've done in this life. On that day, I don't want to have to explain why I once stood over a disabled homeless man clutching my fists and yelling for "what he owes me."

Getting Marc's obligations taken care of will do him a world of good, and be a good start to getting him back on his feet.
I will take care of the postage, but I need to know who and what Marc owes.
PM me if you're on the list. I will keep it private !
