Someone has a humidor and the adhesive that holds the sponges in place have worn out and they fall all the time. The humidor owner uses a liquid adhesive to secure them back inot place. The humidor owner opens said humidor a few hours later to get a cigar and notices the entire humidor smells like the adhesive. The humidor owner is now very conncerned that this smell might damage the taste of his cigars. Its a fairly pricey humidor and he would hate to get rid of it. Is there a way to get rid of this problem without dumping the humidor?

hypothetically of course...........

Send all your cigars to me for proper storage...until the adhesive smell is gone.

I suppose that could happen....do you think the smell will eventually go away enough to the point I will be able to use it again or might it get engrained in the cedar?

Most likely the smell will dissipate if it is from a volatile chemical in the glue but I would remove the cigars and sand down the spot where the glue was applied. Hypothetically of course.

The smell will go away after the chemicals "flash" off.
A fan will speed the process.

May take up to 2 months.

I know "someone" who had the same problem.

I'm wondering if a little baking soda in the humidor would help soak up and neutralize some of that smell... I know there are a couple of scentless deoderizers available on the market... couldn't hurt to throw one in the empty humidor...

Try this:
1 small glass plate
2 wood matches
Small piece of foil folded like a tent
Bible
Clock

Empty Humi and place glass plate in center.
Light wood match and place on plate.
Light second match because the first one went out...THIS time hold your breath.
Lay 2nd match on the first match "X" style
Quickly place heat shield tent over match and close the lid.
Pray
After 60 mins, open humi and let smoke out
Reseason humi, lather, rinse, repeat

Note: Poster assumes absolutely no responsibility for any damage caused by this procedure. Including prayer.

Hypothetically, Ron has ruined lots of his cigars from the FOG bombing, and the Golden Horseshoe Powerball win.

Mine are going out tomorrow (freaking work getting in the way) but will need help.

LR RON IS LOW-BOMB RON! hypothetically of course.

3M makes a heavy duty mounting tape that I use for my humidifiers. It has a slight smell to it, but most of the tape is covered and I haven't ever noticed the smell coming from my humidor.

Just an alternative in case you need a plan B - should be able to get it at either of the home improvement places.

What glue would we discuss in this hypothetical situation?

I mean, is it a simple PVA like Elmers?
Or a cyanoacrylate (super glue)?
Gorilla glue?
Water and flour?
Leftover hoison sauce?

Don't use baking soda, this will absorb the odors but not the source, which is likely the solvent used in the glue.

At this point it would be better to just quit smoking and forget about posting here ever again...but I digress...we're talking about the self-proclaimed leader of the NWO!

I hope all of the n00bs see the forest for the trees. This is their leader. This is what they wanted. Good luck. You're on your own!

The humidor owner has the can at home and cannot remember the name but it was a heavy duty spray adhesive. The humidor owner had some time yesterday and it was the only thing he had in the garage so he went with it.
