Well, that game did. The Yankees won, and Mariano Rivera saved it in his last L.A. appearance, but I don't think it affected the taste of the cigar. I've had many great cigars after a ballgame, win or lose.

I never really had any problems with food or drink but I stayed away from smoking in really cold weather or when I had a head cold. YMMV

Yup, head colds ruin the taste of cigars for me, but it's rarely too cold to smoke here in SoCal.

sinuses will kill a cigar taste in a heartbeat. My first experience with it was like 8 years ago. I had some sinus issues going on. I lit a good cigar and pitched it. After doing this with the 3rd cigar, I decided to quit and something was wrong with my humidor. I consulted in a friend and yes, he called me a BIG dummie for smoking a cigar with sinus problems. You will NEVER taste anything and they all were very harsh. I felt like an azz and thought I was an ELITIST. Brick wall

I have been dipping skoal for 30 years. I soon learned not to light up a cigar if I have had a dip in the last couple of hours. Completely ruins the experience. The good news is that I dip a whole lot less these days even though I only average 2 cigars a day.

I eat a lot of spicy foods and that also ruins the smoking experience. Your basic meat and spuds seem to have no lingering effect on my taste buds.

Citrus juice, fish, and toothpaste are all things I avoid before a cigar.

I dont drink wine, but whiskey and good beer have been fine for me and dont seem to mute the flavors of a cigar.

Hey Ken,

Must be YOU! Frying pan I've had a few SSOSs with different 'gars and always had a good experience. If you haven't already, try an Ayinger Celebrator - man, that's good chit! A tad pricey but if I could afford to drink it often, I would (...but of course, YMMV...).

cK

Reminded me that I need to pick up more Celebrators!

Lol! I have a bunch of different Ghurka I bought to try and haven't found one yet that I love. Don't know what all the Ghurka hype is about. Have any of you found a delicious Ghurka you would buy a box of?

I'm not sure where you found Gurkha hype PWhisk. Have you been reading the writeups on the auction lots again?

As far as food to avoid, and it pains me to say this, but anything overly spicy will wreck a good smoke

Haven’t had a Chimay in quite awhile. Definitely need to revisit.

The St. Bernardus? Don’t recall ever seeing it here but will keep my eyes peeled for it. 👀

Thanks Corey.

I may have exaggerated but I do have a bunch of Centurian and some Symphony and Classic Havana blend. They're all good but I wouldn't go buy a box of any of those 3. I guess I'll keep trying. Maybe something with a darker wrapper. Do you have a favorite Ghurka?

You drunk or just trolling? My favorite Gurkhas ever were the ones I sent to Carson. Specific blends don't matter. Just that they were gone was the important thing. Plus, he basically begged for them, so I didn't even have to feel like an azzhole

And Stogie helped, for the record

Gurkhas are really inconsistent. Even if you find one you like and think is box-worthy, it is somewhat random whether the box you buy will taste like the cigar you smoked earlier.

Yes^^. I had one I liked. Prolly still have a few. The ones I bought to replace them aren’t the same cigar. I’ll try one again someday as I have them but as far as I’m concerned if I never get around to it that’ll be ok with me
