I'm getting tired of hunting around for a particular cigar that I'm looking for and having to go from humidor to humidor to find it. Anyone have a system that helps them keep track of what they have and where it is? Plus, I'm always finding cigars that I didn't know I had and would have smoked if I knew they were there. I guess I need to catalog them in some way, but I don't know what's the best and the easiest way to do it. Little help here?

First sort 'em out in aging range - ready to smoke - could be smoked - don't even want to open the box more than once per month just to check in on conditions. Then just have fun with the first two and smoke what grabs ya when you open the box. Your regular go to's should be in the ready to smoke box...........Think

If that does not work, send them here for sorting and testing...............................................Anxious

I have two humidors - one is top shelf and ISOM smokes, the other holds everything else.
Within each humidor, there are shelves and dividers that allow me to further separate the sticks into categories. The deeper inside the humidor, the better the stick and the more age they have accumulated.

I try to select which humidor I am drawing from beforehand, depending upon the occasion.

He's not doing well Opel. I'm meeting with the doctor later today. He has an infection in his chest cavity, they've run two rounds of IV antibiotics through him and the infection is still there. They may have to transfer him back to CCU. Thanks for asking bro.

Sorry bout your dad.

As tp the op, my advise would depend on humi size. Mine is large (6'x3'x3' inside) with three racks. I have CC boxes on the bottom rack, center rack has clear plastic tubs that I got at Staples® which have specific cigars inside (one houses Viaje, Tatuaje and Liga another houses Fuente and MF. Others have vaious segregation like lanceros and I have a old tub). Top shelf has gifted sticks and recent purchased singles waiting to be sorted, and NC boxes, two empty antique boxes of my great great grandfather, and my Camacho Liberty coffins.

I came up with spreadsheets. One for boxes listing where I bought it and for how much along with the box code and any other important info. Same for singles which was not as easy as the boxes as not everyone is/was as OCD about it as I was/am. Still didn't help with finding anything but it gave me an idea of what I had. I did start putting "Open" labels on boxes that I'd cracked open because on more than one occasion (and in an intoxicated state) I would just grab the first box that I could find and snag a stick out of it. No real easy solution aside from just going Mega-OCD and keeping a log of each humidor. YMMV

Sorry about your dad. Went through the whole Infection F-Fest myself. Prayers and thought sent your way.

Excel is my friend, cause I have OCD (over-sized cawk disease)

It's nice to know where a cigar is, how many I have, when I bought them, what I paid, and some notes I made about it and a score.
I can look at my collection by Name (alphabetically), Date, or Location.
Makes picking/choosing really easy......especially when putting together a travel humi for a trip.

Prayers sent for dad and the family, Nolen.

I couldn't help much with this except to say that, for me cataloguing all of my cigars would take the fun out of humi diving, and humi tetris.

+1 on the spreadsheets - especially with 24 humidors!
You could customize the data for each humidor.

For my CC humi I store a print-out of purchases, box-codes, and quantities underneath

Best wishes.

Holy carp!

Step one, consolidation.

Cut that back to a couple coolers or sell em off to finance a good cabinet.

Ive got a desktop that holds special occasion cigars, and two big cases, essentially coolerdors. One with full boxes, the other with dividers and trays for singles. Not hard to find something specific, not hard to grab something random.

If you're truly the CDO type, spreadsheets are the way to go.

I have this irrational phobia about storing cigars in plastic, I can only do wood.

Sounds like a nice large stand-up unit needs to be on your radar. With 24 humidors you could fill it up easily. Either that or start planning a walk-in unit somewhere in the house.

I think he needs a second house and just use that for his humidor.

Stogierate (dot com), keeps track of cigars, price, age, how many, which humi etc etc, also keeps stats on cigars smoked, history and other stats, easy to use pretty handy. I like it

Cool options on the two sites. I'm lucky enough to be able to hear all this early enough that those options wouldn't be a headache. And if it does get to be too much I certainly do agree with the other folks here voting for the random grab and smoke. However, I have no idea about the problems that begin with that many smokes.

Your dad is still alive and we all know people at deaths door but stuck around to the point you questioned if it was real or not. Prayers bro.

Wheel, there can be big differences. Ever seen one kid and said, "Hmmmmmm?"

And great distinguishing abilities there on curves or rolls. Also, ratio is important. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B9a3aOtz-BY

I like both of those sites too, Thanks Ron and Tiger.

Several months ago I was moving some boxes around in the basement and came across an old humidor I bought in the early '90's. It still had several cigars in it from that era - a few Fuentes, couple of Punch (Dom) and some Cuesta Rey's (Dom). I fired one of each up and they didn't taste bad, they just had no taste. All of the flavor was gone - except for the Cuesta Reys which still had a little flavor. I pitched them and am reusing the humi.

Nolen, I hope I get to the point one day where I find random humidors and cigars I had forgotten around my house. 24 humi's is an insane amount. As for me I have trouble keeping my current ONE stocked. Although I don't buy in bulk and when I don't have a lot of sticks on hand it's hard for me to age them. Prayers to your dad.

Thanks for the prayers Hokie... they get us through. I'm sitting with him now, just shaved him and His lunch came. Some kind of pasta and cheese dish. He ate a bite and said "the chicken in here is spoiled, I can't eat this." I took a taste - it was tuna noodle casserole!
