That smoking a pipe is more stressful than anything. Pack pack light tamp light tamp light tamp. Lighting every 30 freaking seconds or it won't burn. Can't taste a damn cigar the next day because of my tongue being fried from tongue bite. They all taste the same. Pissing me off more than anything..............rant over

Put the baccy out on a paper plate 30min-1hr before to dry it, this will help with tongue bite and constant relights. Also dont puff so fast you want to sip the smoke dont let the baccy get to hot or you will get bite. Packing a pipe is a little different for everyone but once you get it down it should be 2-3 lights per session and a light tamp here and there.

I had a hard time when I started. Finally got it down to 2-3 lights with regular tamping. Never had the burned tongue though. It is a little more effort than a cigar. I'll smoke it more when it gets too cold to go out for a cigar.

drying the baccy and staying away from aromatics will help with the tongue bite...

packing properly and drying properly will help with keeping the pipe lit... once you get your cadence down it's easier...

but I still consider pipe smoking a pain in the butt...

keeping the thing clean all the time killed it for me...

plus I just didn't like any of the tobaccos I tried as much as I like cigars...

too sweet, too mild, too smokey seemed to be what I encountered mostly...

there were some I enjoyed for sure, just not as much as I enjoy most cigars...

The first five or six times I tried smoking my pipe I got so mad beacuse it kept going out and trying to pack it. I just about threw it away. I finally caught on how to pack the pipe, an it might have been a big no-no, but I took the stupid filter out and threw it away. Like some of the others said let the tobacco sit out for a bit before hand. I now enjoy smoking my pipe just as much if not more than a cigar.

If you don't inhale you don't need a filter... if you do inhale, you need a cigarette...

I tried a pipe a long while ago and had the same experience.

Tried again, this time putting in the effort to learn more about pipes and pipe tobacco, the methods and traditions etc.

I really enjoy it now. Definitely a different experience. I have been packing a bowl and leaving it in my truck when I go to work, and smoking it on my ride home. I used to not smoke in my truck but the pipe smells so nice, even the next day.

But, like you said, it kinda ruins the next cigar unless you go a couple days between smokes.
