I was looking for it on here but didn't see anything. So my question is does the water have to say distilled or can you you just use bottled water when filling a humidifier for the humidor?

Only ever use distilled water. As the name implies, this water has been produced though the distillation process and so it is germ free. You can not be sure of any other labeled waters. Your humidor is a great place for mold. Temp and humidity levels and darkness.

Walmart (as well as other places) has distilled water for less than $1 a gallon. Don't risk your smokes and humidor by using anything else.

Thank you Gentlemen I was a little confused because even in the CI videos it looked like it was just plain drinking water in a gallon jug I will be off to Walmart or target as soon as I get off work.

Go to grocery store, find $1 gallon jug of distilled water.

May I ask what kind of humidifier? If its the green foam stuff, might want to reconsider

Most pharmacy's will also carry it.

Or, as Drafter mentioned, lettuce. Sometimes I mix it up a bit and use a piece of peel from an orange, lemon, or lime to add a little citrus zing.

The germs are actually not the problem... if they were, purified water would work...

rather, the minerals (like calcium) and metal deposits are the problem with purified water... distilled water removes essentially everything from the water except hydrogen and oxygen...

If you have trouble locating where a store puts their distilled water jugs, try looking in the "Baby" section near the humidifiers, around the irons and ironing boards, or the pharmacy around the brown bottles of hydrogen peroxide. I have found it in all those locations instead of the bottled water section.

I like flavored sparkling water- really makes the beads snap, crackle and pop. Great for Acid and infused cigars. You can drink it, too.

Holy crap - I hope this is meant as a joke!

As the lettuce dries, it will begin to decompose and will introduce a favored food for fungi and bacteria. NEVER DO THIS!

And as for the citrus peel, it's probably a good idea if you're smoking Gurkhas, some CI/CBid exclusives, or other craptastic sticks. If you're smoking better cigars, the citrus would only mask the nuances of the blends.

yes.. just a joke... although someone thought it was a good idea years ago... I didn't just make it up.. someone was doing it... I just don't remember who... Think

but I guess if you replaced the lettuce with fresh stuff every 4 or 5 days it wouldn't decompose too bad... Mellow

Put an oversized funnel on a pot filled with water, stick a clean length of tubing on the small end of the funnel, stick the other end of the tube in a clean bottle large enough to hold the water your gonna boil...presto... distilled water. Next week we'll discuss the many uses of corn.
