John Bull that is. It's an unremarkable handmade that is one of the best "yard gars" I have ever smoked. A box of 30 Churchills sets you back about 55.00(or about $1.80 a stick.) Toros or smaller sizes, about $50 for 30 cigars ($1.68 a stick.) Not much complexity, but a nice tobacco taste that stays until you nub it to the finish. Good construction (no issues), solid ash and little or no touching up. A good in-between cigar so you can save your super-premiums to enjoy later. Not much on looks either. This cigar is quite mild so, if you like "head-poppers," you probably won't like this one. You can save even more coin if you buy them on C-Bid. No, I am not a shill for Trish or C-Bid. Herfing

Not trying to make fun of you, but if you have 'yard-gars' that are way better and cheaper, why not name them???? horse

I usually don't name my favorites. It's taken some effort on my part to figure out what is good and what I don't like.

Arganese ml3, black ops maduro, Connecticut and Habano wrappers are decent too, Cain Daytona, Genesis the project. These all can be had on here for $2.00 or less per stick.

I don't agree with you about Arganese, it's one of the worst smokes I ever had. I was smoking one on the way to work one day. The first two or three puffs were okay, but then, I got hit with the smell and taste of ammonia and had to throw it away. I haven't smoked one since then. I like Cain, and Genesis, so at least we can agree there. And, they appear (from the prices you quote) to be about the same price as John Bull.

The last Bull I smoked (and I think it's the last I have) had a worm hole in it. Not a bad yard gar, but as others said there are better yard gar choices. I'm another that like Bahia Blue.

Everyone complains about the ammonia smell but if they knew that it was part of the natural fermentation process of the tobacco then they might not throw such a fit about it.

Watch the blendlabs series of videos over at CI. They take you into the tobacco barns and show you how cigars are made. At one point in the videos they go into a fermentation room and the host speaking even says to the cameraman to watch out for the strong ammonia smell as they enter the room.

If I find a cigar like this I let the other cigars of that blend rest for several months.

Different folks, like different smokes. I find John Bull barely ok, Arganese just a bit better. A personal favorite in that price range is 5 Vegas A.

anything davidoff is good... there's a few ashton's I'm lowbrow enough to light up every now and then, you know, in honor of the peasants who work my land... it's good for morale when the crapons see me smoking mainstream stuff... the boys tend to get a bit resentful when I light my opus's with cubans...

like many others here I usually don't talk openly about what cigars I consider to be deals here or they stop being deals...

I consider a yard gar one that I can get for a buck at auction with a little work and patience... there are probably only 2 or 3 of those cigars left for me anymore... and I haven't bought any in some time...

If I'm going to spend $2 on a cigar, I'd rather spend $3... so I usually do... and if I spend $3 on a cigar, it's not going to be a yard gar... I'm no dpnewell but I don't like to overspend on auctions...

Since I haven't been banned yet (but I sense the hammer coming) - I'll chime in here quickly:
Yard Gars
I'm somewhat of an expert in this field.
Nonetheless, it's a very simple really:
There is no such thing as a "yard gar".

That's right........................no such thing.
Those of you reasonably intelligent enough to analyze what I'm saying, will come to the same conclusion. Unfortunately, that's only about 65% of you. The remaining 35% wouldn't understand my explanation anyways, so we'll just have to leave it at that.

Seems most here feel the same way I do about their favorites. So like I said above "I usually don't talk about what I like" so I don't blame you one bit for not naming them.

I believe there are yard gars. They are cigars that are not good enough to sit and enjoy with a drink. For me, they are mostly mild to medium cigars with little or no flavor other than tobacco. Winter is the time that they are almost exclusively smoked while outside.

I agree, at least in part, with you. While it is part of the fermentation process, by the time it is put up for sale, that should all be gone. I am not going to waste time in my humi (at least not long periods off time) to allow a cigar that cost me one or two dollars to age "properly." I reserve that for top-o-the line cigars (when I can afford them.) There are too many cigars out there that sell at the same price as Arganese or less, without that problem. Frying pan

"Yard Gars" are cigars that don't cost you too much and are used when you don't have the time to sit in an easy chair and enjoy the bouquet of a good cigar and the complexity of flavors while sipping a glass of port or burgundy. When you're mowing the lawn or golfing are but two examples of activities where you might not want to burn a "good Gar." You probably won't understand my explanation, so I'll just have to leave it at that. horse

On the other hand I would fully expect a cheaper cigar to be in need of some rest time. If I spend a good amount of money on a cigar then I feel I should be getting a cigar that is properly aged and ready to smoke.

The Xikar HC Toro Sampler of 20 that's been selling for $40-45 is a pretty good value. Construction, draw and burn are good. All four varieties good and flavorful, My order of preference is the Habano Colorado, Criollo, Maduro, Connecticutt. Xikar discontinued their cigar lines so the Xikar HC series cigars have been available at very reasonable prices. These are not crap cigars. On my rating scale below depending on which blend, they range from Golf Gar + to Everyday Premium .

Victor Sinclair
Dog Rocket
Yard Gar
Friend Gar (for those friends you know will leave half the cigar unsmoked)
Golf Gar
> Everday Premium Cigar
Special Occasion Cigar

I guess you would have to say that since there are no yards at sea, me and the crew smoke harbor gars...Think

That would be one so underwhelming that you smoke it when you are where all you smell is fishing trawlers and diesel fumes from tugboats. Spectres come to mind. Nasty creosote logs. I am saving some just in case they ever calm down.
