They're made with tobacco.

But beware, Charlie sold the company to General Cigars so a change is gonna come. Buy all the old ones 'cause they're not gonna be the same later on.

Just read about the Torano dealings, bummer.

I only have a handful of Toranos, guess it's better I wasn't hard core into them. I do like the ones I got though.

When first getting started I tried and enjoyed a few of their cigars, my favorite was probably the Exodus 59 and then the Fifty Year when that one was released....haven't smoked one in quite some time however so no idea how they rate any longer.

That's what I got is a box of 50 year, and a few stragglers (don't remember what they are and too lazy to dig).

I do like the 50 years though :)

I don't remember what I sent, but it was very likely the exodus 59.

Torano, and Cusano, (and a few others) are cigars I gave up on quickly.
Years ago, they were on my "try" list at the same time that I discovered several good cigars, in the same price range, that I enjoyed MUCH more. Torano/Cusano/et al weren't "bad"...............just somewhat boring to me.
Never revisited..................probably never will.

I haven't smoked ant Toranos lately. They (as I remember) were mostly mild/med - med bodied smokes. Good flavor and construction. I'd recommend them to B/SotLs who prefer milder cigars. I've moved on to stronger, full bodied cigars, LFD, Oliva, etc.

You do realize that all General cigar bought was basically the name, right? Torano sold their factories back in 2008 and went to a contracted production model and that's when their cigars went downhill. Production isn't supposed to change, but if does, I can't see how General Cigar will do anything but improve it by moving away from the contracts and into a new factory under control of the company.

I've tried these so far (at least one was recommended by another BOTL):

Carlos Torano Colosseum toro
Carlos Torano Exodus “50” years robusto
Carlos Torano Fortress robusto
Carlos Torano Fortress Double robusto
Carlos Torano Loyal robusto
Carlos Torano 1959 Exodus Gold robusto
Carlos Torano Vault robusto
Carlos Torano Virtuoso Encore

and have this in stock and yet to try:

Carlos Torano 1916 Cameroon robusto

and I agree with the King that they are not bad, just not good enough to want to smoke more of them.

I still wonder why they are listed as both Carlos Torano.... and Torano.... on CBID. Seems like they could just pick one- unless there's a reason ?

Back in my early days here, I used to pick them up on occasion. I went through a couple different Torano samplers. I don't think I had any that were bad. I had none that were memorable. The only one I can recall ever buying more than once was, I think called Casa Torano. It was decent mild, morning smoke -- OK $3 cigar with a cup of coffee. My main issue with the other half dozen different blends I tried was that I couldn't tell that any were different than any others. Take off the bands and there was no way in hell that I could begin to guess which one was which. Blah....so I actually figured they were a good fit for General.

For sure. I bought a box here and a box somewhere else. Two completely different lines. They tasted the same. Plus, IIRC they burn pretty funky.

I had Some Exodus gold box press this past summer that were very very good. A bit Choco-ish, a little spice. Easy draw and no touch up. They were from a B&M and have no idea how old they were.

Just got a fiver of Virtuosos recently, the first one was plugged, they really need to rest a bit after ashing the second. Pretty disappointing for a Torano. The 50 years I have in the Cuban Toro have been excellent.
I have a part of a box left of the Exodus 1959 I've been sitting on for about 10 years, old blend so I guess I better smoke the sparingly.
The blend changes after selling to General are a disappointment. Blend changes to a perfectly good blend are a BAD idea, chases brand loyalists away. Look at Camacho, they are such a radical departure from the EIROA Camacho's, the 'New & Bold' blend specifically the Corojo is a big dud they bear no resemblance to the Corojo cigars that the Eiroas did such a great job with when they revived the all but defunct Camacho. They put that brand back on the map in the early to mid 90's and they were fantastic, that revival really introduced stronger full flavor cigars to the market in the boom.

I'm laughing reading all these "General cigar changed the blend and it sucks" comments.

General bought torano less than 5 months ago. If they changed the blends, which is unlikely, you wouldn't be smoking it unless you went to the contract factory and took it from the store rooms. Most cigars get at least 3 months in the store rooms before shipping so they can dry out after rolling. 6 months is more likely.

They would have had change the blend the day off the sale for that to happen.

What you are smoking was rolled long before general bought them.

What you will see is general cutting the low performing lines and releasing new lines. That won't happen until IPCPR later this year, at the earliest.

T.G clearing up muddy waters...as usual. Thanks.

As mentioned above the Exodus 1959 50 Years has been a fave Torano. The Vault was pretty good; the Loyal and Master were OK, imho

Toranos are hit and miss these days, back in the day they weren't WOW cigars (a couple were close) but they were very consistent. Now I don't care much for them.

Though I do have an 04 Tribute to smoke thanks to dkeage.

Can't believe nobody mentioned the Torano noventa, loved 'em when they first came out. So I believe at this site they had a maduro version come out and I got a couple of 5ers and they were total garbage(which is where about 7 of them ended up!),unsmokable.I know a lot of people don't like Bryan from cigar obsession but check out his review of this maduro version and then skip to about the 15 minute mark, pretty interesting.

I enjoyed the Tributes. Still have some 2008's left. Speaking of, those boxes were so cool with the wood inlay. I have a couple of them waiting around for me to figure out what to make out of them. Lamp, guitar, something. Yeah, I know, they will still be sitting there in another 10 years most likely still waiting on me. I need to simplify my hobbies.

The Exodus 50 yr was good. I tried a couple Fortress and thought they were good for the price.
