Haven't had a cigar in a few days. On my third round of antibiotics. Dr. *thinks* I have a respiratory infection that I can't seem to shake. On my third round of antibiotics since late December. This time he gave me the *nuclear option* in regards to the antibiotic. If this doesn't work he is going to refer me to a pulmonary specialist.

Maybe it's time for me to think about giving all my smokes away. Perhaps if I didn't smoke I wouldn't be sick.

Gotta do what you gotta do for your health.

sucks to hear though, hope you get answers soon.

Have you had a cardiac work up recently? It's easy to misdiagnose respiratory issues with cardiac which is the system more affected by cigar smoking than the lungs.

That sucks man, I just hooked you up with all those good smokes.

Maybe if you just layoff for a while, then when it clears then enjoy them occasionally.

Probably shouldn't smoke while you're on the nuclear option though.

What did the doc say about smoking cigars?

Take your time deciding what to do. Give up the cigars for a bit and think about it. I hope whatever you have gets cured quick because what I have seen of you is nothing but great.

I know it's a long shot, way long shot...

Don't know if you read my thread about my Pup Dog, but his issue was valley fever. Valley fever is a fungal infection where antibiotics wouldn't have any effect. But the thing about valley fever (and I'm assuming other internal fungal infections), is that it can spread pretty much anywhere in the body.

Anyway, the fungal infection hit the sac around his heart and was causing all kinds of problems for him. This fungal infection caused a rash on his ass, infected the tissue / bone in his leg, surrounded his heart and his lungs...

Anyway, fungal infections are brutal, and I guess most people aren't affected by them usually, but some people have a hard time fighting off fungal infections than others. What the vet told me was that it's the same for both animals and people. People who are more prone to fungal infections might get rashes more, or have toenail rot, etc...

In any case, if you've been to a desert region recently (Arizona, New Mexico, Eastern Cali, ect...), it's a possibility.

Also, from what I've learned about fungal infections, if you've been treated with steroids, it increases the likelihood that a fungal infection could take hold.

Like I said, long shot...

But if that's what it is, it's fairly easy to treat.

Now that just sucks. Well you could send your stash to Stinger, or OPFTH. Just don't touch your stash till you are over the illness so you do not spread it to whomever you send your stash to.

If it is an upper respiratory infection I would suggest eating jalipenos. They are an expectorant and have more vitamin C in them than a bag of oranges. Turmeric spice is a anti biotic/ anti viral. It can be put on veggies or in the water when you boil starches like rice or pastas.

Lay off sugary drinks till the infection is over. Sugar has a tendency of killing off your immune system for 24 hours for every soda you drink.

Get well soon. Don't let it turn into Pneumonia.

I hate to hear that. Hang I'm there. Bad stuff going around.
Fighting the same thing since December as well. Upper turns to lower turns upper turns to lower. Two shots and a round of pills, still got the night coughs.
And I'm in my 30's.
It's nationwide. My wife is a family physician. This is the worst year she has seen yet.

Just let them rest for a while.
Otherwise send them to me, we all know how well I take care of cigars

Don't make any snap decisions. Let your sticks and lungs rest. If this leads to bigger decisions, well, no worries. If you rehome your sticks, and find that you want to go back - it's much tougher.

I hope the antibiotics work. Take some probiotics too!!!!

Speaking from personal affliction and experience, I've been through it all.

Has your doctor checked your immune globules? A persistent infection you can't shake bears checking your IgG, IgA, IgM levels. One way to check if you're immune compromised is to have an IgG troph level done.
To kick this you might need to go through a bout of IV antibiotics. Put in a pik line or a peripheral you change out every 2-4 days and you can do them from home on your own or a visiting nurse to check up on you for a spell if it just won't respond.
Check all you're immune functions some sneaky virus or bacterial infection could have best you down and is manifesting now with the persistent pulmonary infection.
Take care brother, I hope you get some answers and start feeling better, and have your immune funtions checked so you can get an idea what's going on.
You may need to abstain for a while until you get better, hang on to your stash until you know what your options areHerfing

Definitely hold on to your stash. Like Charlie said, could just be something that needs some time. Maybe you will pop out of the other side and will have no problems smoking again. At the least, you will be aging a bunch of cigars.

IF you have asthma or some other chronic lung disease quitting might be a good idea. Over a year ago I came down with pneumonia, even though I had take a pneumonia vaccine. After I recovered, I was using bronchial dilators (such as Advair) and a pulmonologist put me on a B-Pap + Oxygen regimen after being diagnosed with sleep apnea. I cut out smoking entirely until my lungs were clear. I now smoke (usually) only 2 cigars a day. At the age of 75+ I want to die healthy.

Just let your cigars have a nap while you focus on getting better. Just from your activity here coordinating bombing runs you have been burning the candle at both ends. Ease up a bit and let your body catch up to you. Take it slow and get better.

Hope you feel better very soon.

Good advice. Cutting back is a great way to make yourself age your sticks. I didn't smoke for over a year when I was going through all of my surgeries & health issues and then I figured that there wasn't any good compelling reason to start again.

The only time that I have a real urge to smoke again is when a new interesting cigar comes out. It has been hard to lay off buying the new Edición Limitada's, Monte Sport/Open series cigars and the Cohiba Maduros & Behikes. All of which I've never purchased or smoked. fog

Dude... if you're smoking a couple a week you're nowhere near needing to drop your stash.

I'm getting maybe one or two a month in right now...

Just slow a little, lose the chest cold and get your testicles back from wherever you left them. :)

There's been a respiratory bug going around since before Sep/Oct 14.
A few things to considering trying:
– Sit in a sauna a couple times a week
– Exercise & cardio, stationary bike, treadmill, jump rope
– Increase your water intake - keep hydrated
– Higher protein diet - reduce carbs, breads, pastas, etc.
– B12 shot
– DZ10 if your decide on probiotic supplement & cleanse. Matt Booth also recommends.
– Retrohale less and not as frequently.

And if all else fails… send me a list.

Dr. told me to lay off cardio for a few weeks. He said cardio can irritate the chit out of a respiratory infection.

My wife has me on the probiotics. All the antibiotics I've been taking has wrecked the good bacteria cultures in my plumbing.

Got sick (sinus and chest infection/head cold) on Christmas Eve and it lasted for 3-4 weeks. Didn't feel like smoking a cigar at all. Once I was well, the first few cigars tasted like crap. Even mild cigars tasted harsh. My palate had changed. It took a couple of weeks to regain my "taste" for tobacco, but now I smoke less: about one a day rather than 2 +/day before I got sick.

Hang on to your stash, unless you are sure that smoking cigars is causing your health issues and then you really should give them up.

Has anyone ever heard of people being allergic to tobacco?

I have chronic URI's .Doesn't help I smoke cigs sometimes too. Take Multi V's and extra Vit C'c. cut back and you'll be fine. Trust me on this been battling this for years!

When I say chrinic, I mean antibiotics 3-4 times a year
