hello all... haven't had much to do with cigars as of late but my sister in law is getting married and wants a cigar bar... figured it'd be a nice distraction from life so I volunteered to round up a dozen good boxes or so...

so far I think we're doing

blondies
kuba kubas
java mints

montecristo media noche
hemingway somethings

need suggestions for a few more... if it was my wedding it'd just be a tat bar but they would like to keep everything around 100-120 a box... I thought it might be cool to score a box of cubans for them to keep tucked away for the family members but I'm pretty clueless on those so suggestions would be helpful...

Romeo y Julieta Coronitas En Cedro for the win man, good fresh and price can't be beat.

Good choices above btw.

AF 8-5-8 Naturals would fit the budget and be mild enough for the non-regular smokers

if you are going for the flavored cigars, I have found the drew estate café con leche or the red eye to be pretty popular, none flavored Hoyo de Monterey Excalibur (any), Gran Habano Vintage 2002 and Victor Sinclair Connecticut Yankee. as for Cubans, Romeo y Julieta Romeo No. 2, Montecristo Open Junior or Partagas Aristocrats or you can go for a box of 10 just for the wedding party which will open up a bit more possibilities (monte No2, Partagas series D No4, H. Upmann Magnum 50, ect). have fun!

Not sure if you need the box for display at the wedding but these are a pretty good deal and I think would be popular at wedding.

http://www.cigarbid.com/...lue-Generoso-10-Cigars/

Z has a good one with the RyJ coronitas, also though Bolivar petit coronas are on special for $120 right now..

Some others I would consider in that price point

Jaime Garcia (also can be had on freefall from time to time for around $35 a 10er)
Any of the Oliva series in maduro
Maybe one of the General Cigar brands (not that I like them but they are popular among people that are not that into cigars)
JDN Antono 1970 (can get these in a large RG for those that like at a rather decent price)
Padron 2000 maduro or natural

To help with the overall cost I would add 1 box of Ramon Bueso Genesis.

I know nothing about infused, but sounds like you're good there.

The GH2002 is great for cost, excellent for presentation, decent yard gar and it won't make a noob puke from a nic overdose.

I agree with the Bueso Genesis, and I'd add the Odyssey Robusto (even though I'm not a fan, many are).....pretty solid cigars for the casual smoker, good price point, and side by side they will look good together, letting one choose dark or light.

I'd be careful about the Jaime Garcia......very strong, and a pretty pronounced room note that I'm quite certain at least some will not like..........that.......and there will be a drunk dude who will fire one up, inhale a few drags, and puke in the punch bowl.

In fact, I'd be careful with most anything from AJ or DPG, as most of them need rest....a few months at least.....if the wedding is in July/August, no problems.......if it's April/May.............well......those Man 0 Wars might not be ready.

As noted, the basic Padrons and Hemingways are always a solid bet.......you know what they are.

Another possiblitly is the Perdomo 10th Anni Champagne......good smoke for the noob, excellent presentation, and you can get them at the other place for $32/10-pack every day.

The Four Kicks Corona Gorda is a nice smoke which a more experienced smoker would enjoy.....also available cheap ($13/5-packs) at the other place.

My sister had a cigar bar at her wedding - it was a very good time.

Try to stick with cigars that will last no longer than 1.5 hours as otherwise there will be lots of cigars only smoke to the 1/3 or 1/2 way mark.

Get nice small boxed stick matches to go with the event printed with couple's name and date of event

To stay on budget and offer some flavorful options -
Onxy reserve
Bahia Maduro robusto
Nat Sherman Host selection

All can be found at CBid for reasonable coin and should appeal to a wide range of cigar smokers.

Tatuaje Tattoo or Illusione Rothschild are good cigars/good value and not too strong.

KOC has good recommendations ^

awesome suggestions all around, and much appreciated...

they definitely want cigars in nice boxes so they can be displayed...

we'll most likely be avoiding the CI only brands, and probably not going to touch AJ's stuff or the genesis...

I think Z was dead on with the RyJ Coronitas En Cedro, assuming the price is good... it's one of the few cc's I've smoked, and enjoyed it greatly... either that or the bolivars will be in my sights...

Palama - love the 858's, great suggestion... but I'll probably go with the maduro's on the off chance that I inherit any of the leftovers... for whatever reason, I really can't stand the 858 natural...

king, the perdomo champagne sounds like a good suggestion for a milder cigar... haven't had one in a while but I remember liking them... just have to track down an actual box...

again, appreciate the suggestions...

Just my two cents but..............i gotta figure a very small percentage of folks taking a cigar are not real cigar smokers and will probably end up throwing the cigar away or smoke it for a couple of minutes and then toss it. I would set up a cigar bar with $1-2 cigars and keep a pocketful of very nice ones in my tux and hand those out to those I know will appreciate it. If there are 250 guests, you may need up to 150 cigars....lot of money for premiums to be mostly abused. Plenty of nice $1.50 cigars on this site to choose from. Again, just my two cents.fog

ya, I think the bride's parents are teetering back and forth over this right now... part of them wants to just do cheapies since most people won't know the difference...

the problem is, some people will know the difference, and those people will probably be super loud about it (armenian wedding)...

then you have 500 wedding guests murmuring about how you're too cheap to spring for a decent box of cigars...

Well, if truth be known, I love the maduros too but suggested the Cammies since they're easier to get. But yeah, you should buy stuff you like in case you "inherit" leftovers. Herfing

You could also always grab some $20 humis (the 25 counts) and load them with the GH2002s and other decent bundle cigars available here and there...

Then you have the presentation covered, with some decent cigars....................and some of the grooms can take home a small humi to boot.

It would be fun to put a box of Padron 2000 maddies next to a humi stuffed with GH2002s, and see what cigars get grabbed the quickest.

My bet is the 2002s..........

OK, I can speak from experience. I hosted the cigar bar for my niece at a wedding of about 200 people. I personally paid for the whole thing as my wedding gift for them as I really like her and her husband.

1) Buy cigar bands with the couple's name, initials, or something. Wrap each cigar with this as a second band. Leave the originals on. It takes forever to label the cigars LOL. I think I had 5-6 boxes.

2) Buy boxes of matches with their name, monogram, or something. I think the ones I bought had their names and the wedding date. EVERYONE, non smokers included, will want a box to take home as a souvenir. They are cheap and easy to have made. There are companies all over the internet that do it. Also, this will keep you from having everyone steal your lighters. PEOPLE WERE SUPER IMPRESSED WITH THIS.

3) Have a ton of cutters. They were too expensive to have monogrammed, so I just brought a bunch of generics. Alot of the drunk **** will take them and not return them. Offer to cut their cigars as most wont know how much to clip off anyway.

4) Buy 5-6 silver Big Stinky Ashtrays and put them around the area you will be smoking. They look classy and the guests cant really hurt them Buy the big ones because they will be filled with mostly unsmoked cigars. When the night is over, I kept one and gave one to the groom and the rest went to anyone else who was an actual cigar smoker. And you will know who they are as they will want to hang out and talk about it with you.

5) Be prepared to see about 100 cigars in ashtrays that have about 1/4" smoked. 99% of the people will do this. Most will have never tried one and a little alcohol makes them adventurous. Dont buy expensive cigars. It will make you sick to look at it.

As for cigars, here is my advice...

Macanudos. Cheap, very mild, and most people have seen/heard of them. Trust me, people cannot handle strong cigars. Buy different sizes.

Buy 2-3 boxes of DECENT cigars. Give these to the people who think they know cigars and are loud mouths. Then, make fun of them when it is too strong for them and they hack up a lung trying to inhale it LOL

Cubans - Buy a couple of boxes. The above mentioned in the other posts were good choices. I had R&J and the people loved them. These are for the groom / groomsmen / REAL cigar smokers/ and family who are genuinely nice people. Keep them under the table. People will come back for seconds of them to "take home and show people".

That beings me to the last category which I've touched on throughout the post. These are the people you will encounter:

Tipsy Female: Never had a cigar and will go share it with a friend. Expect 1/4" smoked.

Loudmouth Douchebag: Wants the biggest strongest smoke. Will have admittedly smoked tons of boxes of glass-toppped Cubans smuggled from Mexico. Will clip 1" off and will light the cedar on the cigar if it has any.

Freeloader: Will come by and put 3-4 in his pocket. Will possibly come by multiple times. He just wants free stuff.

Genuine Cigar Smoker: Will look around and pick the best smoke on the table. Will clip it, leave the cutter, and take a box of matches and go outside the enjoy a smoke for an hour. This is a good candidate for a Cuban.

Total Newb: Wont have a clue and will genuinely ask for advice. Be prepared to clip and potentially light the cigar. Same rules apply as Tipsy Female. Give them a Mac and they will probably be in heaven. Might make a cigar smoker out of them. This is a good choice to give a cutter to at the end of the night.

Groomsmen: They could fit into any of the above categories, but give em a Cuban. They had to pay $150 for a damn tux. Plus, they will be there the latest partying and you might be smoking cigars with them later.

Good luck and I can help you out if you need anything.

^^^ TJ sighting!!! Hope you are well bro!

TJ offers some great advice! Consider the Stinky Stackable Ashtrays too (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/ashtrays/82291/stinky-stackable-ashtray/). Often can be had on the Bid for around $7, half the cost of a metal Stinky. The large rectangular sides make them easy to customize with labels celebrating the occasion. Dishwasher safe too.

But whatever cigars you buy, remember there will be a bunch leftover.

Did this for sisters wedding and was surprised at how big a hit it was. Was not expecting it to be so popular.

My experience mirrored TJ's. But I didn't go in half that prepared. Brought 2 boxes of RPs dont remember what ones, a Connie and a darker one, maybe maduro maybe Habano don't remember. Brought a cheap humidor that I filled with some bundle smokes as well.

Had a couple cutters and lighters (none made it home and by the end of the night everyone had to find me to use my lighter and cutter because the others walked off).

I did bring two traveldors one Cuban and one premium non-cuban for the groomsmen and the two or three guys I've known to smoke cigars.

It was very well received, and I came home with no extras. Was not expecting for it to be so popular. If I did it again, I'd definitely follow TJ's advice.

This might or might not be true. My friend had a cigar roller at his wedding and 200 cigars gone 3/4 through the night. I could also see the opposite happening as well though.

TJ you nailed it. Exactly the experience we had at my sister's wedding. Good solid advice.

Hey CAC... Hope to be around a bit more now. I'll be in Colorado later this summer too!

As far as leftovers, we had none. The only left was about 3/4 box of one of the Cuban boxes that I was holding on to to give to the groom for his honeymoon. I made sure he had 10+ for his trip.

I forgot about this... The bride's dad (actually step-dad) brought a couple of 1.75L of Crown and left it with me. They had beer, wine, and champagne set up elsewhere but all of the fun happened with Crown and cigars. I know Crown isn't the best thing in the world, but for this crowd, if was a hit and someone actually ran to the liquor store and bought 2 more bottles that night.

The bride's mom bought a little hand-painted sign that said "Free Advice" and stuck it on the table by the cigars. It was a hoot!

Long story short, having some liquor with the cigars is definitely cool if it can be afforded. Oh, then you will have to add one more type of person:

Cigar Dipper - Thinks dipping their cigar in Crown prior to lighting it makes it so much better....

so far I've gotten a lot of great suggestions from you guys and the lineup is looking good... I still have 3 months or so to get things together, so I'm hoping to add some more options before then...

Infused (if my wife doesn't smoke them first):

DE Java Mint
Acid Kuba Kuba
Acid Kuba Maduro
Acid Blondie

Cigars:

LGC Rabito Cochino - Thanks for the suggestion Robert, these look fantastic on display
RyJ en cedro - thanks for the suggestion Z
GH 2002 - thanks for the suggestion King... these do look much better than they could ever be and I'm sure I'll hear a lot of how great they are based on how they look...
Chateau Fuente and Oliva Connecticut - thanks for the donation cacman! very, very cool of you... you're on my list...

If I may offer a couple of humble suggestions:
• Go with the DE Java instead of the Mint
• Only get one Acid - Kuba Maduro (with the Java that's 2 infused cigars)
• Skip the GN 2002's - IMHO they're short-filler (at the best) yard gars. Consider Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Petit Belicoso Maduro (5.5"x52) instead. The line is being discontinued by Rocky and can be had for less than $50/box
• In place of the LGC Rabito Cochino consider the Partagas Culebras for those that appreciate cigars and a little twist. The presentation is much better than the Cochino's, plus they're Cuban. On sale now!

Good luck!

2nd vote for the Indian Tabac super fuerte - that's the ones I bought for sisters wedding. Went over well.

Another thought: depending on the average age of the guests, if younger crowd, may want more acids.

Never, ever recommend buying more Acids.
Educate them with real cigars instead of giving them potpourri infused rockets.

I would add a couple of Tins of Cuban Honeys for the uninitiated ladies that want to be part of the experience. They go well and won't break the bank.

If I may offer a couple of humble suggestions:
..................
• Skip the GN 2002's - IMHO they're short-filler (at the best) yard gars. Consider Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Petit Belicoso Maduro (5.5"x52) instead. The line is being discontinued by Rocky and can be had for less than $50/box

Good luck!

Interesting..................... I had not heard that the GH2002 switched to short filler.
Yard Gar? Yes of course, a one-dimensional chocolate/rich tobacco flavor bomb.......listed as Medium/Full......but I find it to be more of a Medium.
Tried several Indian Tabacs back in the day................guess I haven't found a "good" one.

Glad to hear you like them. They smoke great as well. Did you end up getting the freebie as too?

Hope you can put them to good use.

got the package last night... a million thanks from both me and my dad in law (the guy spending his retirement savings so his baby girl can get married)... a beautiful 5er of oliva connecticuts and a beautiful 5er of chateau fuente's... these are both going to look great in a little desktop... I'm guessing they aren't going to last long... thanks again Carl... it means a lot...

Edit: almost forgot the stickers! 4 sweet stickers for breweries and bbq sauce! I have a 4 year old niece who decorates my old cigar boxes with stickers I find for her... she turns them into her "treasure boxes"... she will be very excited next time she visits... thanks again Carl...

I did... and I should be getting it again here shortly... the family liked the way the cochino display looked so much they asked for another... probably put a few good cigars for the groom in this next traveldor... thanks again for the heads up on that deal...

Hahaha oh wow. That's crazy. Luckily they're at a solid price point. If you have time at the wedding, take a picture of the cigar table so we can see how it turned out.

very solid price point... I'll definitely snap a few pics...

something I'd like to put out there for the guys who have done this before:

In order to minimize the amount of cigars pocketed (his previous child's wedding saw the cigars run out way early as numerous guys lined their tux pockets with fistfuls from the unmanned cigar bar) my dad in law would like to hire a guy to man the bar and cut and light each cigar... cigars would be on display but not in such a way that people help themselves... I can see the line getting a little backed up... Any other thoughts on why this will not work?

One person could not possibly keep up with the demand to cut and light all the smokes. It would be a very long line

1. Have the cigars "served" from a tray/platter by waitress or waiters - People will be less likely to grab handfuls when they are served as someone is watching. The service trays should have a cutter and matches as well and the staff should be given some knowledge of cutting and lighting to assist the people
2. Keep the cigars on display behind a bar and have them passed across to the smoker as requested
3. Do not put the cigars out until after all "required" parts of the event have taken place - too early and the cigars will be pocketed - you can also put the lesser/plentiful smokes out first and hold off on the better cigars until the grabbers have already taken theirs.

I've got nothing.

My 80 ct cigar bar was cleared in under 2 hours. Along with all the lighters and cutters.

I'd man it.
