I'm sure somebody buys this crap. Someone with more money than sense will buy just for bragging rights to say they smoked a $400 cigar.

Owning and not smoking it gives you bragging rights for a longer time......I'd love to see a blind taste test and see how it compares. .. . I will participate if someone wants to donate for research.

I'm in for the challenge too. Gurkha does make some good cigars, but the bulk are mediocre and a few are just awful. I've probably smoked 40 or 50 different varieties and yet to have one explode. A lot of smokers just hate them.

I had never tried Gurkha and then i read that the 125th got a high score from CA mag.....so when i saw it pretty reasonably priced I bought one and said OK....not bad but........maybe I don't have a sophisticated enough palate......I've had no inspiration to try again.

Someone gave me a beast to try but I haven't got around to it because it is such a large honker, the opportunity to burn through something that big hasn't presented itself. Now that i have seen an LFD lunatic it doesnt look that big anymore....I'll have to fire it up.

I agree in general with Tony about Gurkha cigars. What I dislike is their marketing. No one else markets their cigars like this.

I've got a friend that smokes a lot of Gurkha's. Usually a I supply the smokes when we get together. Every now and then I'll smoke one of his to be polite. Afterwards, I curse myself for it. They all seem to have that "special" taste and IIRC the wrapper and sometimes the binder split on every one of them I smoked. In Gurkha's defense, he does store his smokes at 70%.

Yes....as do we all. It's to what degree that we differ, yours seems to be stuck in your adolescent stage. In all fairness, I adhere to the " smoke what you like and like what you smoke " mantra. Beer

I have a couple of Gurka Ancient sitting in my humidor but I have not tried any. I believe they were some of the first "big name" individual I bought several months ago. What if any you guys have tried are decent, and is the disregard really the cigars or the company? I only ask the second part of that question because there seems to be allot of distain for the brand itself.

The Ancient Warrior is one of the good Gurkhas, smoke 'em.

Two grown men fighting over a cigar? Let's face it guys; Gurkhas are no prize but someone must like them because they sell a hell of a lot of them. Granted neither I nor anyone in their right mind would pay around $400 for a single cigar, but there are a lot of crazy people in the world. Now kiss and make up boys. Shame on you

Not is.

Was.

I tried a fiver of 'newer' or 'discovered' purple banded AW's last year. 'Horrid' doesn't do the experience justice. NOT the same cigar as the AW's of old. At all.

Paying for a Gurkha at what they think their retail price should be is silly. Lots of people buy into their made up hype though.

I watched a show on science channel where they were letting people sample two identical cakes. One cake they said cost $15 the other cake supposedly cost $50 nearly everyone that sampled the two cakes said the $50 cake was better. It was just in their head because they thought since it cost more for it, it had to be better.

I see this way of thinking in the reviews at CI where so many people regard Gurkhas as their benchmark for comparing other cigars. People think they're good cigars becuase they paid a lot for them.

There is one gurkha in particular that sells for $80 per five pack over at CI, I get them here for $19. If I had paid $80 Id probably also be thinking they were a damn good cigar when in reality they're a $2 cigar.
