Baby tradition

My number one guy working for me just had a baby. Well his wife did most of the work. What is the proper tradition. Does he hand out cigars or do I offer him one? Or give him enough to hand out? He is occasional cigar smoker. Just wondering how the tradition works.

Screw tradition, if he's your top guy or friend or both, give him something nice. Maybe 2, one for him, one for his dad.

If he wants to give out announcement cigars, that's on him. Those are often lower end cigars that get handed out by the father to all of his (mostly non-smoking) buddies as part of some outdated 1930-1950's tradition that no one cares about anymore.

Not your responsibility to give him enough cigars for everyone.

^ yup.

If a cigar dabbling buddy has a life event I try to hit them with a CC or two, three depending on where/when/whom. A regular smoker will get a fiver.

But non cigar smoker, might offer one if he and I are spending some time together, but otherwise no.

I will give him something nice for him and his dad. Good idea. I have some old Anejos I think he will like. No sense wasting cigars on non smokers.

My buddy is a pilot and came back from Italy with a box of cubans for his daughters wedding. I watched him hand them out to the friends of the groom whereupon everyone but me took a few puffs and left them in an ashtray. Since they were cuban of course they all wanted to light up but then......

I've seen this happen on more than one occasion over the years, (with CC's and other High End cigars, as well), and it just pisses me off.
Your buddy's HEART was in the right place, but unfortunately, his HEAD was not.

I tried an alternate suggestion.......and did i mention that my buddy hates cigars? And most amazingly he will ask if i want to smoke a cigar at his house when we hang out for a few drinks......outside of course.

Heh, yes there was. It was utter shit though. "Lone Wolf" cigars, by James Belushi and Chuck Norris about 10 years ago.

No, really, stop laughing. I'm serious.

They were horrible cigars. That brand deserved to die.

There's an old tradition where if a baby isn't perfect, they throw it off a cliff into the Agean sea. What's your buddy's nationality?
