Mine was an aromatic house brand called "Candy Corn." Subsequently, I got hooked on Latakia and blended my own which I now prefer. I also tried Penzance and really liked it, but the damned thing is so expensive and hard to get, I threw in the towel (which is why I made my own.) Think

Honestly couldn't say.

Probably Ennerdale Flake.

Dunno if I'm inexperienced or just uninterested but I take the route that bskwaj does with cigars. Good flavor, smokes easily, and produces a good smoke volume with a good mouthfeel and I'm happy. Don't like aromatics. Prefer VA, but couple English blends have grown on me, the newest being Plum Pudding. I can't really discern trace flavors like in a cigar. I just know when I've got one I like.

Ennerdale Flake is the only one I've bought with every order I've placed, and still run out before I'm ready to buy more. I think I've gone through about 8oz in the last year. (consider I've gone through about 8oz of everything else in the same time)

I'm all of about 3 months into this new fascination. Got a sampler from a noob trade at another place that had exactly none that I loved, about 3 or 4 I really like and a bunch that all seem the same in my mind within 24 hrs of smoking them.
The only ones I'd buy that I've tried: SG Full VA Flake - great when I could keep it lit; two from SPC: Plum Pudding and MS River. I got a few from here that are not bad, but still finding my footing. Best one by far is a house blend that my son got for me over in Annapolis and he doesn't recall which it was grrrrr

A black cavendish blend that I can't mention, since it's a competitor house brand. I haven't smoked it in a few years because it got so expensive and when I had it I smoked 6 or more pipes worth every day.

Not a big fan of Latakia, but it does hit the spot every so often. I can't remember the last pipe tobacco I tried that I didn't really care for at all.

Favorites
H&H Anny Kake
Just about anything else Russ Ouliette blends
PS Luxury Twist Flake
Hal O the Wynd & Old Gowrie
All the ropes and twists from G & H
Most McClelland blends
C & D Night Train & Bayou Morning

Aromatics
C&D Crooner
Irish Blessing
Nutty Irishman (Grumpie's favorite)
Autumn Evening

And then I also have a supply of almost every blending tobacco C & D offers so I tend to dabble with blending during the colder months. Chef

My favorite depends on what tins I have open.

Find myself smoking a lot of Samarra by GL Pease.

Smoke a lot of Stonehaven (this may be my favorite overall blend).

Really like Marlin Flake when I am in the mood for a straight up Virginia.

Squadron Leader is also pretty good.

Dunhill 965 used to be really good, but I haven't had any since they changed it in 2010 (or whenever it was, somewhere around that time frame). All the tins I have left are the good stuff that I have had cellared since 2004.
