The best thing about culebras is when you have two other BOTLs to split it up and sit and smoke em with. Good times!

Nice pic, and thanks for sharing.

Yep, this is when I break them out, also have an annual herf with some old friends and giving a culebra in everyones package is kinda my tradition. Been getting tougher as fewer are out there being produced.

What is the one with the yellow ribbons? that is a really elegant looking bundle. I love the tight twists and fullness of the cigars.

I have allways been intrigued by the Culebra. That would be an awesome thing to have for a 3 man herf!

Thanks for sharing that awesome picture.

Yes a single cigar rollers days alotment of cigars in the old days. that way they could tell wether they were smoking the twisted cigars or the production cigars. Theft prevention of the old days.

Also was said the factory would only allow a single cigar per day per worker. So some clever roller decided to twist 3 together to make 1, thus he had three cigars when taken apart.
Couple other variations out there.

I read it on the interweb it must be true, if not that changes everything.

Well then what is the deal with them, I've read a few articles and they all seem to vary as to why these came about.

Essentially, it started in the Philippines in the 1800's and initially had to do with a theory on aging, but as the practice spread, it simply become more of a sales gimmick.

There's more to the story, but rather than try and remember it, I'll post it for you this evening.

Here's the full text on the history of the culebra from MRN. Note the 2nd footnote in blue regarding the "allotment" story.
