You can... beer can keep relatively good for extended time as long as it doesn't bounce between say fridge temp and warmer temps.. this will spoil the beer. If you dont plan on drinking right away, buy your beer on the shelf and keep in a "cellar" temperature type environment. Sure that at low 70s kept wont hurt it.
Garages here get over 100 degrees.. so, you know I cant say anything about yours, i'd say not, dont store there.
My local has stored several beers and wines in his humidor.. that'll be consistant environment for the beer.
