I realized this morning that CBid needs to modify their forum rules so that you can mention the bad experiences you have had with other sites. It would make them look so good in comparison.

Cbid has rules about that? Never knew. I thought most of their rules concentrated around cursing and posting competitor info. Oh well.

Why, so other sites will allow CBid to get trashed?
So that CBid can get it can get sued for slander or liable?

Give us a break with such nonsense.

Slander is spoken, so no issues there...

In terms of liable, I'm certain cbid can't be sued if people make negative statements about other websites on their forum...

If cbid could be sued for such things, I'm sure Gurkha would've filed suit along time ago for the things said about them on here...

And in terms of other sites allowing negative comments about cbid, who cares? If it actually happened that someone made such an idiotic statement, only the fellow idiots would believe...

I am fully aware slander's definition involves spoken words, but most others aren't- and often get it confused with liable-so it is easier to simply use both terms at the same time to avoid confusion with accuracy.

What's your basis for the certainty CBid can't get sued? They host the forum and disseminate its contents. Bet there is an entire body of law out there concerning this.

Gurkha is not a competitor of CBid. It may tolerate the comments because it still does a lot of business with CBid and may not wan to cut off the hand that feeds it. There are even rumors here and there that CBid may own a part of Gurkha. Who knows?

You willing to personally guarantee them they can't get sued?

I don't believe that stating or writing opinions constitute slander or liable. If you could be successfully sued for liable in an OP/ED piece then most of the “talking heads” would be bankrupt and out of business. JMO-YMMV

I don't guarantee anything to anybody but I am fairly certain that the laws you speak of do not pertain to a third party poster...

I will point you here:

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/jury-awards-13-million-texas-defamation-suit-anonymous/story?id=16194071#.T7qWu0VrO2M

The website could not be sued, rather, the courts ordered the website to turn over the contact info of the posters...

That said, you reminded me of a Bob and Tom sketch where a lawyer reads a letter from a listener asking the difference between slander and liable...

The lawyer screams, "What kinda half-wit moron doesn't know the difference between slander and libel!? You must be the worlds biggest idiot!"

Then in a much calmer voice continues, "That was slander... If I had written it, it would have been libel..."

Also, we both spelled libel, "liabel"... we're certain to be slandered for that...

Or, we're liable to be sued for libel.

Wow, you guys take things way to seriously. I had an amusing story from an encounter with an owner of a different site I couldn't share because mentioning the name of the site was required to get the full effect. From that it has degenerated into an arguement about libel and slander. I thought the homophobia and bad gay jokes were the worst things I would see here. I was wrong.

Tell your story, Sammy. Just use a word that rhymes with or means the same as the other site's.
For instance, use Rhomson for (deleted by SteveR) or "RJ" for (deleted by SteveR), Numann for...

If you're mad and now don't feel like telling the story (moment has passed), go right ahead and pout. It's alright little soldier.ThumpUp

Say whatever you want, they have moderators to delete and edit posts. If that happens, you've went too far.
I just ordered a box of NHC seleccion limitada reserva. That's a brand of cigar, ok to mention, right? I can't say where I got it though, savvy?

I know and knew.
Most people don't and I hate having to correct them or explain the difference between the two when the distinction just doesn't matter.

BTW, Google: libel, slander and listserve/internet forum and the like. You will see that some courts just might be surprised at how the courts use the terms interchangeably in this context.

Actually, I did. About 2 nights ago. That thing was awesome. Almost had a "sweet" taste to it. Was a little loose, though, and burned quickly, although not hot. Was a nice smoke!

Glad you enjoyed it!

Machine mad, chopped filler. But, don't think I would ever give you anything but my best. I was told that cigar is the "epitome of sweet, woody flavor" in HdM. A similar cigar would be the smallest one in the "Le Hoyo" series.

Not the first time I have had an excellent experience with well aged, machine made, chopped filler Cubans- such as La Corona and Quintero.

I've smoked many machine rolled cubans. Never been disappointed with them. Again, thanks for the smoke!

Guys, I am not an attorney but I will throw in my $0.02 anyway. Pretty sure that libel/slander involve telling lies or falsehoods about someone or some entity. Pretty sure stating an actual experience or opinion, no matter how negative doesn't qualify. If they sue, they have to have the burden of proof that you are lying; speak the truth and and I couldn't see any court convicting you. That said, the rule is probably more for brand reputation. No one wants their business associated with trashing another...unless your business is in politics!
