29 - Viaje Supershot...4.0 VSU, some lite salty and meaty flavors but nothing overwhelming. It's a small stick that burns hot and harsh in the last third. Simple answer is "it sucks". I'll never buy a Viaje again unless of course the marketing sucks me in again.

30 - Viaje Friens and Family - way overrated, some good coffee and chocolate flaves and 4.1 VSU...not worth the $16. I'm done with Viaje.

#30 - Nica Libre Torpedo - 8.5 VSU! OK, I think 5 is the top and this was definitely in the 4.8/9 range. Had smoke coming out my ears with this one ... unfortunately it wasn't that great of a smoke and I ended it early.

Hater, don't read the post next time. Btw, I have a hot blond wife who loves cigar smoke. If u have your own reviews, would love to see them or perhaps u don't have the balls to post?

Ha! Feeling a little touchy? I could care less about your wife or your reviews. I just felt like stirring the pot. That's what we used to do until we got so many thin-skinned noods who think their opinions matter and couldn't take a little ribbing. Go on with your bad self and your silly "ratings".

C'mon, u stirred the pot, I just responded. Guess I was a little touchy, bad day at work. Happy to have more VSU ratings...c'mon, it won't kill u to post one. Being silly and stirring the pot are one and the same IMO.

31 -- 601 La Bomba Nuclear. Had to be 5. Couldn't suck as hard as usual with this bad boy because I couldn't hold all the smoke. You gotta try one of these with your meter.

Embrace science... embrace logic... No more VSU...

http://fire.nist.gov/bfrlpubs/fire60/PDF/f60002.pdf

Attenuation - Gradual loss of intensity through a medium.

ABSTRACT: Based on a study of possible smoke-measuring methods. a
laboratory test has been developed for the photometric measurement of
smoke from burning materials. The method assumed the applicability of
Bauguer's law to the attenuation of light by smoke, and smoke quantity is
therefore reported in terms of optical density rather than light absorptance
or transmittance. Optical density is the single measurement most characteristic of a "quantity of smoke" with regard to visual obscuration.

I don't believe he even has a wife to weigh in an opinion... It's just him and a cigar sitting in a tent in a vacant lot watching zombie movies on a battery operated b&w tv...

Actually, the wifey hates cigars and smoke, but appreciates that I have my vices. Since I started averaging a smoke a day though, the nookie meter has gone way down. Therefore, there is an opposite correlation between VSU and Nookie.

This paper is a scam...it quotes Beer's law. I'm an expert on the Beer law and it has no correlation with smoke production.

The study that the paper is on is actually quite ingenious... It actually led to the invention of this machine:

http://www.newport-scientific.com/superpressure/superpressure-product-detail.php?subcategoryId=502

which you need to purchase if you're ever going to be taken seriously on the quantifiable properties of cigar smoke emission...

I can't find these anywhere on Craigslist or eBay so these must not be very popular. Going to check the home improvement stores later, but it looks like a big scientific looking blue humidor.

Wish we could just make something with newspaper, rubber bands, and Popsicle sticks.

Nothing on Craigslist? Maybe you spelled it wrong...

I actually doubt there are more than a few of these out there... I don't see it having a whole lot of practical "at-home" applications...

Exactly. The VSU is a bad concept. I put the idea of the VSU in the same group as "rocky mountain water" makes beer better. Or swirls on the inside of a bottle or the need for a coldness indicator. You pickup the beer. If it feels cold in your hand then it is cold enough. Just F&^king stupid ideas. Frying pan

amount of smoke produced by a cigar is one of the reasons we "smoke." VSU is just an off the wall way to compare our experiences. To each his own. There are plenty of people who don't care for the concept, but some have fun with it. It's just as legitimate to post about this idea as any other. Sorta like keeping track of our cigar count: plenty of cbidders post their consumption daily, others don't bother...no big deal. We're just trying to have some fun with this as we share our thoughts about something we all have in common: love for fine cigars.

This is not "global warming", efficacy of vaccinations, or "intelligent design vs. evolution"

More like: tomayto vs tomahto.

No offense intended to eether, or is it eyether???

Its funny you should say that, because I do, in fact, have a degree in Mathematics.

However VSU seems to be a measure that has no quantifiable variable.

34 - Emilio Cigars Grimalkin Toro - 4.8 VSU baby, one of the best smokes of the year. Man, when these Grimalkins let loose (some are tighter than others), the complexity of this cigar really comes out. Best cigar of the month by far.
