http://skokie.patch.com/articles/attorney-disbarred-sentenced-to-prison-for-smuggling-cuban-cigars#_=_ you get little to nothing now Dummy!! She took away his earning potential and livelihood and 37 months in jail smart move. She would have bled him dry but she had to be caddy. I bet she tried to black mail him with all the evidence and he told her to pound sand so she turned him in.

IIRC, they tried to paint him as a big-time smuggler - tons of cigars, many trips to Cuba for express purpose of smuggling, etc. But, seems the quantities seized were hundreds, vice thousands or tens of thousands. Pretty sure a number of cbidders have more Cuban cigars than the feds took off this guy.

Attorney Smuggled Cuban Cigars Sent to Prison, Disbarred

Skokie resident and former Illinois Public Defender Richard Steven Connors smuggled "truckloads" of Cuban cigars into the country, according to two state law journals. By George Slefo | December 7, 2012

Former attorney and Skokie resident Richard Steven Connors was found guilty in federal court for conspiring to smuggle Cuban cigars, goods into the United States as well as violating the Trading with the Enemy Act, according to the latest issue of Illinois Lawyer Quarterly.

Connors was also disbarred as a result of his actions, the publication stated. According to the New York Law Journal, Connors smuggled "truckloads of Cuban cigars into the country during the 1990s."

The Skokie resident was also fined $60,000 and sentenced to 37-months in prison. The journal stated that Connors made 31 trips to Cuba, but that his activities were halted when his ex-wife alerted U.S. Customs.

In ruling against Connors, the Seventh Circuit noted that the operation was "fairly lucrative." One trip resulted in his smuggling 46 boxes of the cigars valued at about $350 per box.

$16,000 worth of smokes for just one trip doesn't sound very small time to me...

The two things did this man in that many before him have fallen to...greed and an ex-wife. Sneaking a box back from vacation for personal consumption is one thing but trying to profit it off it is another.

Nice quote from the court documents:
The court added that it wasn't just the Cuban variety that held a certain appeal. "Actually, all cigars do," the court said in a footnote. "As Rudyard Kipling noted in The Betrothed, '[A] woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a Smoke.' "
You know damn right!

If he got them in free fall, he might have gotten a pretty good price...

Government markup, anything seized is said to be worth more just to make it look more dastardly.
