Just smoked these and San Lotano HAS to be one of the best cigars I ever smoked. I liked it even more than the few Padrons I have smoked in my lifetime. If I were rating it, I would give San Lotano a 97 because I found very little wrong with it. The My Father's Cigar was a little disappointing for me. Yes, I know it was only ONE cigar but I still remember this cigar when it was first released. If this was the first time I had smoked this cigar I would say it was pretty good and well worth the bucks asked for it. But it wasn't the first one I ever smoked and this one didn't taste anything like the ones I remember. It is a disappointing fact that many cigar manufacturers who achieve high ratings then start tinkering with their formula or the tobacco they use, in order to increase their profits. Sad

And it is a BIGGER FACT that tobacco is a product of nature and as much as I'm sure they wish to " Bottle " a certain blend and how it's received....like wine grapes it can and Will vary from crop year to crop year. I'm fairly confident that Pepin is not " tinkering " with his " success formula". fog

Just like wines, there are good years and some not as good. Plus your palate may be off. It can be affected by things you ate, medicines you took, and allergies/sinus issues you may be experiencing. Your emotional state can also have an impact on the cigar you are smoking. Like you said, it was just one cigar so it may be you that is off, not necessarily the cigar. I have this happen from time to time.

Have had cigars from the same box, that tasted quite different.......not sure if it was me, the cigars, or a combination of both.
The factors affecting the taste of the cigar one is smoking at any given moment are so NUMEROUS, that it's almost not even worth trying to analyze why it's good or why it's not good.

It really makes me appreciate Padron, Fuente, and some others (Tatuaje, DPG, etc.), as to how they are able to maintain a relatively high quality and consistent product year to year.

To Danm--If San Lotano is "flavorless" Iw would like to know what you smoke. To Philly Jack LOL . To King of the cove and Nolen--you are quite right, but this was a huge difference (in my opinion, which might be faulty.) To the rest--"Huh" is not a reply.

I have tried two of them (granted they came from CI samplers) and they smoked well, great smoke production with a great draw but with a finish that was so short it tasted like nothing.

Mmmm, I actually like the San Lotano Oval natties and don't consider them flavorless at all. But, the My Father blend has been for me quite consistent from its initiation and the MF lancero particularly is in my top five. It's a personal thing. Don't worry about what anybody else tastes.

I really like the san Lotano habano and oval. Not flavorless to me.... On the other hand the MF is a real treat. Especially after a little rest.... And I imagine would b appealing to most that enjoy The San Lotano. Give it another shot on a fresh palate.

The San Lotano "The Bull" is out freaking standing. Very flavorful, full bodied, smooth, rich. The habano is a nice smoke, medium bodied, certainly not flavorless, but I can see where those who are used to flavor bombs might not care for them. The maddies are pretty good as well. I smoke a lot of My Father cigars, regular and LB's, Jaime Garcia Reserva's and Aroma de Cuba's (produced by My Father cigar factory). The My Father's have changed from when they were 1st introduced IMHO, and not just as a result of seasonal variances. The original My Fathers were more akin in flavor and body to a medium full connecticutt wrapped cigar. Very refined, smooth, not all that spicey at the start for a DPG product. They morphed into a more full bodied, spicier version at least 2 years ago. I like them. The current version suits my tastes fine, but they have evolved significantly, whether for the better or worse depends on your individual tastes.

Tried a My Father from local B&M, first time and it didn't do much for me. Pretty one dimensional in flavor.
I got a 5er of San Lotano Habano and after time in my humi I loved it.
I really enjoy other Pepin blends, My Father hasn't been one of them.
Everyone has different tastes, most people consider My Father outstanding.

Scared And, please remember the term "full-bodied." Don't ever smoke one of these before eating something like I did on the way to work this morning. Almost blew my head off.

as you smoke more and more, you may find that the more common occurrence is for a full-bodied smoke to do you more harm on an empty stomach than a full one...

the strength of the nicotine may have made your breakfast move a bit, but smoking something strong on an empty stomach can turn you green...

or maybe your wife is a bad cook... Think

This and so-called buzz from smoking never made any sense to me because I never seem to have such reactions to cigars. Tho I prefer something of medium body, full bodied smokes don;'t seem to have any effect on me, while a buddy of mine often gets what he calls a "buzz" from some cigars, I have yet to have such an experience.

You've built up a tolerance due to smoking all those crude-oil tasting Gurkha's you love so much.
