. . . Tatuaje 7th Capa Especial...

I was a little late today, on my day off, getting down to the Vets Hall. I had an appointment for a haircut that got postponed until 6PM. Mistee has stopped working there, so I had an appointment with Liz. She is a beautiful woman. She has a few tatoos. While she was working on me... I noticed a Tatoo on her arm. It was just about the same as the logo for the Las Calaveras. I mentioned that to her and she had some comments about it. Something about it being a known image and somewhat related to the Day of the Dead holiday thing in Mexico. Next time I will take my camera. I kept looking at her in the mirror as she cut my hair and hadn't realized until then how beautiful she was. Mistee is very attractive too, but, well, she stopped working there recently.

So, after that I head over to the chow hall to eat and then go back to the room and grabbed a Las Calaveras, a Tatuaje 7th Capa Especial, and an Ave Maria (I forget which vitola that was) and then headed on down to the Vets Hall.

The Las Calaveras 754 was nothing short of excellent. It lasted for about an hour and a half and I was disappointed when I finally had to put it down at about a half inch.

Thursday night is not an official 'open' day for the Vets Hall. It's just for members to show up and relax. When I got there, there were only a couple of guys there and they left not long after I got there.

Then I lit up the Tatuaje. While I was smoking it, a guy showed up and engaged me in some unimportant conversation about country music and I kinda lost the feel for the Tatuaje. But it was still very good.

After that I lit up the Ave Maria as the moon started peeking above the horizon around 10 pm. It's more of a potato shape now, but it was till big and cool to watch as it moved up. You know, from our perspective, it's moving at over 2,000 mph as it slowly ascends. Anyway, as usual, the Ave Maria was very good too.

So, anyway, just a little peek into my night....

Haven't tried the LS yet, but the Tat 7th Capa didn't do much for me either. Try the 7th Reserva instead. IMHO one of the best cigars you can smoke for around $6.

The Las Calaveras is the shizzle. Next year's will be a different blend. They set the bar pretty high for themselves, I wonder if they will be able to stay on par. I also wonder how this year's will age.

I have been collecting the Las Calaveras for a special memorial on board ship in the near future. We will be crossing both the Equator and the International Date Line at the same instant. Once there the vessel will circle slowly as we call the crew to quarters on the main deck. All will be in dress uniform and will be given a Las Calaveras cigar for the ceremony. We will hold a memorial to the sailors that have gone before us ringing the ships bell and reading the names of those who came before, served with us, and who have gone on to their rest. With each part of the list there will be a salute that will be given by a puff on the cigar. When those from our past have been saluted, then those present have been saluted, we will salute those who will take our place and carry on the proud traditions of the sea. At the end of the reading of names and salutes there will be a solemn march around the main deck with a solemn dirge, probably Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. Once around the vessel, then the speakers will crank things up as we head into "When the Saints Come Marching In" like in a New Orleans Jazz Funeral. Once we do our second lap of the main deck, all partying will break out as we celebrate the lives we are given, and the friends we are with, and we will remember our Brothers of the Leaf back on shore who helped us to gather all the cigars together to share in this moment in our history.

On the behalf of my crew, and myself I would like to thank all of the brothers here who have helped us to round up the necessary Las Calaveras for the memorial. I am still short a few but I am sure there will a few more found in time. I have purchased a bunch of 5x52? for the crew, a 6 x 52 for the executive officer, and ahh mine is a 7x52, captains privilege after all. Herfing

I am moving from California this week to Colorado for a short visit with family before heading back to sea. I will catch up with everyone as soon as I get there.
