Suppose you could have a 3000+ cigar humidor custom made. What are some features you would want & why?

Split sides (2) doors, maybe even a dbl split door on one side (3 door )fixed shelf so as to create a separate compartment to be used as your " Go to cigar " area....thus allowing you to open it as needed without disturbing the other areas whatsoever. (one solid wood door ) with Lots of " aging drawers behind it for nekked storage and door with 1/2 wood 1/2 glass as you GOTTA be able to see some of your Babies. Second side 1/2 split between " bins and general box storage. The real question IS.....what would you want it to look like ( motif ) and how much does one want to spend?? Oh and Of Course a 110v recep or two for your humidification gadgets!!

I'd like one where I can go on a sled ride with a Snow Queen that offers me Turkish Delight.

What TMC said...

If I had 3000 cigars I would do a wall in my office with multiple compartments glass front, separate humidity controls, roller sliding drawers at the bottom for boxes, rolling shelves in the middle for loose, Glass interior doors for those that need extra protection and alarms all over.

As TMC said, one section for those you go to often and one or two sections for those you do not want disturbed. I think I would also add Led Lighting, Ultra Violet lighting to keep mold and germs down.

I would do as much glass as possible so I could see the wonderful collection of boxes and loose, and keep the ugly boxes in the drawers. I would also probably make a shelf where I would have special spot lights softly highlight things like Opus XXX God of Fire, and my Cohiba 7x54 CC and whatever super cigar I was proud of.

In the back wall I would have a glass panel so that I could sit a mural behind my entire collection of scenes from the Plantations, and in the center shelf with my daily blends, I would try and get a collage of all my BOTLS so I can salute them as I enjoy a smoke.

I learned from the Native Americans to thank the animals that gave their lives so I can eat. I remember to thank Arturo, and Carlito, and Nick, and all the others who have been through so much in their lives so I can have a hour of pleasure once and a while.

Sooo I think if I had 3000 cigars, it would look like a museum, not just a humidor, and it would be the highlight of the room, and not just a piece of furniture for in its body lies a treasure of sacrifice and sweat and dedication that is too important to forget.

Anthony we are in the middle of a phase 3 of our home remodel.Included in phase 3 is my man cave which had a 3 1/2'X 6' closet in it.I sealed it 2 weeks before the contractor showed up,lined it(approx 75% lined anyway)with Spanish cedar last week,LAYED in the hardwood floor this morning and should have it trimmed and shelved in the next couple weeks.I think with 6 shelves it should hold well into the 6000-8000 stick range.I'm guessing 50-75 open boxes and 300 sealed boxes.I'm going with a passive humidification system that has worked quite well in my coolers, freestanding and tabletop humi's.I'll post up pics once completed.

Sorry for getting off topic abrignac.

I think whistle has the best idea although spectre would be a nice show piece. I thought led lights get hot though could be wrong here electrical stuff is my weakness.

All in all if I had a closet to spare the idea of turning it into a humi is intriguing to me.

I've got a few ideas in mind. I'm just not sure I want to display my collection. Right not it's out of sight and out of mind. Besides I would need to go on a massive buying spree to fill it.

Cool wife!

Can we add temperature control while we're at it?

Ron...

I was refering to the theoretical 3k humidor having temp control...gets hot here.

Will the ac for yours be on its own zone, or do you just cool the whole house?

I have LED lights in mine. No, they do not get hot........at all. Actually found them at Costco. They are peel and stick flexible strips in 2 foot sections that plug into each other. I started them about half way up, just on the inside of the door. They stretch across the top and then back down the other side, half way. I didn't want to put too many in as I was afraid that it would be too bright. When I got the package open, I realized that what I bought had a built in dimmer and about 20 different settings for color of lights! I guess I didn't fully read the package when I picked them up! Also came with a remote control so I can adjust through the glass doors and not open the humi.

Lots more money for cigars to fill up a 3000 count humi or a closet. Youz guys are in a whole 'nother league.

When I came home from Afghanistan in 12 (as a slimy contractor, so don't be thinking I"m some war hero or sumthin') I went from a herf-a-dor and one ziploc bag to a humi, then a tupper-dor, now a coolerdor and a humi for the high end stuff.

And that's after some drunk over/under-bidding sprees, ya'll re-noob'ing me a few times too many, some traveling herfs with very gracious hosts.

But 3000 cigars? How many do you smoke a week to ever get through them? sheesh

I doubt my local shpo has 3000 cigars...

But to play along, I honestly haven't a clue what I'd be looking for. Probably a couple totally separated compartments internally so that the "age'rs" can sleep, the "rest'rs" can rest and the dailys can be opened daily.

Or make the 3k humi a straight up display cabinet and keep the dailys in a desktop or in a separate drawer.

I think if you're commissioning a 3k capacity custom cabinet humidor, it's pretty much whatever your heart desires.

Take a look at Mitsubishi ductless mini split systems.

Guess it depends on your temp needs too...

IIRC . . . Didn't you go out and check for IED's ?

Well, if THAT don't make you a hero, I don't know what does !
Don't sell yourself short, sir.

A long time ago I trained to mess around with ordnance and IEDs. Active duty in Iraq in 08/Afghanistan in 12 as a contractor I mainly fought PowerPoint and stupid e-mails. Other great American men and women put on the bomb suit and walked downrange. I just tried to help them get the intel and equipment they needed.

Fun job, just got too old between Desert Storm and OEF/OIF to actually do much of it for real.

I live in the Houston Metro area, much of the country would consider 40%rh a damp day, here it is considered a dry day. Your local rh peaks and lows should be part of your humidification system choice. I have an old amoire(60"hx48"wx18"d totals 36 cu f) lined with 1/4" SC plywood, 2 oust fans, 10 lb of beads and a 2 qt bowl of gel works great here. Going on 3 years rh between 63-68%, house is between 68 and 73F. Mostly fighting high humidity here. Have to add water to the gel every 2 or 3 months, depending on how often I open it up.
