Good unique flavor.
But I'll take an Unholy Cocktail for the price.

I am sure it has to age naked in a cedar humidor before it would be decent. It is a Sumatra wrapped cigar. Every Sumatra wrapped cigar I have burned needed some aging. Diesel is a Maduro wrapped smoke. How similar can they be? Think The Amazon Basin would be compared to other Sumatra wrapped cigars like...

Rocky Patel Royale
Aging Room Quattro F55
Oliva Serie V Melanio
Hoyo de Monterrey
INCH Natural
Kristoff Sumatra
La Gloria Cubana Serie R

just to name a few.

Put some good age on it and you might just change your mind. Properly aged they are tough to beat.

I've got some resting, so let's see if they improve. For a deep unique flavor, the UC is good pretty much out of the box.

Sumatra is a varietal, maduro is a color shade. There is no direct comparison. Any varietal of tobacco can be made "maduro".

yes, you are correct. CAO AMAZON BASIN is not have a maduro wrapper. It's a Ecuadorian Sumatra ligero wrapper. Diesel is a Pa Broadleaf wrapper that is maduro. Not similar in any way really. I have to buy a fiver for $33 at C.I. and sample.

Nothing wrong with the Diesel line either. Very nice smoke right out of the box. Certainly will mellow and improve with age as well. I have a few taking a cedar nap right now.

Just found that the new CAO releases need considerably more time resting, especially compared to the OR sticks released when they were still family owned in Nashville.

Maduro is a term that is used, or not used as the case may be, pretty loosely by NC manufacturers. It's origins are a color/shade on the leaf grading chart but can also be used to refer to a leaf with some extra fermentation time.

I haven't seen the CAO Amazon Basin in person, so I can't say what the color matches up to, but from the photos, it actually does look to be about the same shade as "maduro" on the color chart. Meanwhile, every Diesel cigar I've ever seen would fall more around "oscuro" than it would maduro.

I really wouldn't put too much stock in the maduro / not maduro descriptors.

You are correct in that the Ecuadorian (country of origin) Sumatra (varietal strain) Ligero (where it's located on the plant - in this case, upper leaves) isn't similar in flavor to the PA (origin) Broadleaf (varietal) maduro (doesn't mean jack ****). It's like comparing apricots and plums - both are stone fruits, they have some similar characteristics and they can cross pollinate.

I agree with Thunder-Gerbil. 🌟
Just wondering if the Nicarao Havana Sungrown makes your Top 25?
