Humi pillows only release moisture and don't really regulate humidity that well. Better off with boveda 2-way packs.

Yup.

They're not the best.

Buy some small Bovedas

Keep your eye on these:

http://www.cigarbid.com/...al-Tube-Humidification/

I picked up 10 of them last month for $3. AFAIK, they can be used an unlimited number of times. I have some I've been using for over 3 years. I refill them about once a month. At that rate, they have cost me $0.08 per use. Suppose they are good for another 3 years, that will drop to $0.04 per use.

On the other hand, if you get 3 uses out of the pillows, as advertised, they will cost you $0.33 per use.

Even at $5 each, IMHO they are still a better deal than the pillows.

Oh, and before the "two way" types check in, the three humidors I humidified them with kept a constant 65% rh for 3 years.

They're actually both the same active ingredient: Super Absorbent Polymer gel. Maybe not the same formulation though as there are a few different chemical formulas for it. Generally speaking SAP is two way, it's just not as quick to absorb moisture from the air as it is to release it. Also, depending how it's made, the RH it maintains can vary from one type / manufacturer to another.

Additionally, the membrane on the water pillow interferes with the absorbency of the SAP in the pouch. It also can quickly turn into a mold farm.

They actually do have a lifespan, but it's unlikely you'll hit it using them in a humidor. Dump them into your potting soil with your plants and they'll degrade in 5-7 years.

Hmmmm...........

This got me wondering so I did a little research.

I found that SAP is the same thing found in disposable diapers. At some point, I'm guessing we'll get a thread that advocates cutting the crotch out of diapers and using them in humidors. Cacman will chime in and it will become a free for all.

LOL.

I can see it happening here too, exactly the way you spelled it out, which makes it even funnier.

The problem for some may be that they are filled with PG and are supposed to be refilled with PG.: http://www.xikar.com/products/humidification/drymistat-tubes/

Do you refill with PG or distilled water, Anthony.
