The new event only cigar. Holy wtf. Seen posts before never paid any attention to it, but thus things 11x38.

1 question?, why. No seriously, why?

Why? To give the dipsticks out there something new to whine about.

Seriously though, I could write a book on all the stupid cigar sizes and gimmicks I've seen over the years and a 11" lancero would probably not even make the final edit.

Why a football shaped cigar? Or a bat? Or a pipe shaped? Or triangle pressed? Or 70RG? Or the 13" long cigars?

1 answer... WGAF. No seriously, WGAF.

Yeah, I dunno bro. Some of it is certainly sillier than others. I blame the Cubans though, coming up with that Culebra braided cigar thingamabog.

I will say this, these weird cigars do work. Look at all the hype, talk and other crap they are generating. Next thing you know, someone will post a rant about them thinking they are somehow going to diminish sales, then the thread views, hype and demand will go through the roof. *CHA-CHING!* Remember, the house never looses.

PS: I didn't know that tbrochin was getting a second movie, especially after they canned the script for "Twigs in my yard: Electric Company Boogaloo"

Doesn't 262 cigars already have a cigar called the Manifesto? Seems lame to infringe on a smaller company like that.

Yeah and I'm pretty sure DE made a big fuss when some company tried to use the word "Dirty" in the name of a cigar.

I have no idea who 262 is, but a quick search of the US Patent & Trademark database shows that "Manifesto" isn't trademarked for cigars. Furthermore, "Manifesto" seems to be used by a number of cigar manufacturers, so it's probably not all that special a word.

Like how Fuente made a fuss towards Oliva over the use of the letter "X" on a cigar?

Oh, no, wait, Fuente sued them for damages. Big difference.

Show me the money!

IMHO - DE is the epitome of the "gimmick" cigar - from infused, to the Egg, the Pig, the unbelievable Bashert craze, Papa Fritas trimmings… the list goes on.
It should only get better with Swisher involved.

Will disagree with TG on the culebras as being a Cuban-only gimmick though. Although originally perceived as such, think they are a true vitola that has history. Believe culebras (or snake) is a method of roll/vitola originating back in the early 1880's-1890's. Evidence that Culebras were being made in the U.S. date at least as far back as 1890. Noted cigar historian, Tony Hyman (2014), produced a photo of a cigar box (circa 1890) that once contained Culebras produced by the F.P. Filbert Cigar Company in Eaton, Ohio called “Filbert’s Twisters,” a 3-cigar Culebra. Tony had other examples including A. C. Brenkle Company’s “Twisted Smoke,” a 4-cigar Culebra made in 1914 and the “Cuban Twist,” a 3-cigar Culebra made in Wisconsin in the 1920’s. Since Culebras likely originated in the Philippines (Auckland Star, 1890 and Nee 2003) and with evidence of the cigars being manufactured in the U.S. as far back as 1890, it seems reasonable to conclude that the Culebra originated no later than 1885 and most likely between 1880-1885.
A good read - and Johnny-O's are mentioned:
http://www.stogiefresh.info/edu-cigars/articles/culebra-a-definitive-guide.html

Was always lead to believe the twisting of the fresh wet cigars added to the flavor & melding of flavors during the aging process. I'm not a fan of the PSD #4 but I love the Partagas Culebras!

Has DE ever done a culebra in the past or produce one now? Tatuaje is the only major manufacturer that I know that's offered a traditional culebra, as well as Reguius.

Infused cigars, The Egg, The Wafer so, why not this? Apparently, there are customers out there dumb enough to buy the rest, so why not a cigar that lasts 3 hours? Gonz

I never said they were Cuban only. Annnnd, it really wasn't about that anyway.

DE certainly has gimmicks, just like every other manufacturer does. I just don't get worked up over any of them doing it. Meh.

Funny story about the Egg, I once asked Jon something about if people actually still bought them, he even called it a complete gimmick and despite that, every one of them made, sells. It's not a high production cigar, only a couple hundred a month IIRC.

As for infused cigars, I really can't hate on a guy for recognizing a market segment that was largely ignored and then proceeding to dominate it. Last time I checked, that's what business is about.

and we all love business here...just don't mess with our product!

Seriously, I agree with TG. A bright entreprenurial mind who loves cigars found and filled a need in the marketplace (well, not the egg) as opposed to creating a false need and hopefully became wealthy. Bravo! It wasn't like Lars "Look at Me" Tetans.

There are many examples of this happening in America with products I do not need nor like. But they do not seem to raise the emotional response the way DE does. My emotional reaction happens when products are marketed with the goal of creating inadequacy in a person, eg fashion, cosmetics, medicines etc.

But Acids? who cares? ignore 'em.
