Cigars Snipped Short and used as Pipe Plugs

To smoke really good cigars past the nub (completely) I took to stuffing the nubs into a pipe. Lately I just snip a cigar into 3" lengths and start with the pipe. Yes it looks ridiculous. The advantages are that my pipe has an easy to grip rough surface and a flat bottom that allows it to be set down on the desk, the cherry is always about 5" away, the ash never falls off, and there's never an extra-strong part of the cigar through which the rest of the cigar has been smoked. I don't like pipe tobacco (fiddling with getting the right pack of shredded leaves and smoking moisture-retaining additives). Does anyone else do this?

No.
And I like the "extra strong part", as it is part of the cigar experience............you know, the start, the middle, and the end, and sometimes, the nub.

Does all pipe tobacco have additives?

Virginias tend to just smoke wet.

I've never done this but know others who have smoked this way. Seems like a good idea.

Seems reasonable enough to me...but then again I don't know much about pipes.

Change something in your routine. If you keep doing what you've been doing, you're going to keep getting what you've been getting. You can try:

Drier tobacco. Don't be afraid of crispy Virginia. Many people prefer it that way.
Technique. Slower cadence than a cigar and sip versus puff.
Pipe cleaners. Run a pipe cleaner through occasionally during your smoke. You're less likely to have a wet wasted clump of tobacco at the end of your smoke.

In reference to the OP:

You should try Tabac Manil Bouchons de Semois
