I'm curious to know what everyone would consider as the biggest waste of money on a cigar. I think I would list the Montecristo #2. Now this is an okay cigar but it is far overrated in my opinion, especially for the pricetag. Others might include Cohibas (red dot), Dunhills, and Padron Anniversaro. All are decent to good sticks but for the price you can do much better. My value picks include Puros Indios, Canaria D'Oro, Mayorga, Padron (regular line), Flor de Oliva, and La Luna Fuertes.

Cohiba Red Dots, on the cheap end Espinosa....what a piece of crap, even for the 75 cent tag per stick....should pay you to smoke this rocket. Value- Mayorga, Puros, and Joya's.

I agree, GG -- Monte #2's just don't do much for me. I have two in my humidor, in great condition. I might go to the "trades" board to see if anyone's interested. Another bargain: Dos Rios.

Good thread. Biggest waste? Macanudo, Don Tomas, Cohiba Red Dot, Montecristo (non-ISOM), on cheap stuff, Flor Del Todo, (personally, Puros Indios, though you guys like them), Te-Amo, Aroma de San Andres, **ESPINOSA!, and Hoja de Nicaragua. Dunhills are way overpriced, although very good.

Biggest waste: Celestino Vega. What a dog rocket! Best buy: Roly, although the $15 bundle of old seems to have disappeared. There are so many good deals now that the cigar boom is over, it has been a real adventure finding really good, cheap smokes.

Hmmm...I'm surprised I haven't seen this one mentioned...LARS TETENS!!! I had one a while ago and actually thought it was decent, so I bought some more. BIG MISTAKE! These things are horrible and expensive. I feel like one of those cartoon characters with "SUCKER" written across my forehead. As far as value, I like El Rey del Mundo's and 5 Vegas.

Without a doubt: Opus X. The single most overrated cigar in the world.

Overpriced: Opus X (good cigars, but lets be honest they're not THAT good!) and non-ISOM Cohibas (IMHO they suck and are only bought because idiots confuse them with ISOM cohibas.
Value: well, just because of you guys I finally ordered a boxs of Mayorgas, so we'll see how they are after a month or so in the 'dor. Personally, I think the perdomo reserve maduros and bahia gold maduros are both top notch quality with powerhouse flavor and can occassionally be gotten for under a C-note a box here.

I would say Davidoff, I hardly hear anything good about this cigar, talk about spending money for the band. Dunhills are overpriced and I use to like them, but too mild and bland for me now. Aston Cabinet is expensive but worth it. Lately I have been enjoying the Maria Mancini Magic Mountain, the Honduran Sancho Panza, and box pressed Puros Indios, all excellent values.

I'm supprised nobody mentioned the Partagas 150. My cousin gave me one and although it was a very nice smoke, the price tag is INSANE! I'll take a box of the regular line over 2 of these anyday. Hoyo's, Punch, Padron and recently Mayoras are my "bargain" smokes. I also get really nice "no band" LF Nics from a local store for a buck a piece, and they are pretty damn good!

I disagree on the Opus X. Granted if you are paying 2 - 3 times suggested retail they are a huge waste of money. But if you can find them for the suggested retail price I suggest them. I have a local authorized retailer that offers them for $9 - $14 each with no purchase limits. I smoke as often as I can afford them!

The Monte #2 Habanos aren't what they used to be. They need some age on them, about a year or more. They used to be one of thebest around, but Cuba is / has been having blue mold wrapper problems. Biggest waste of Money ever for me was the Padron Milenium. The Anniversario Maduros are worthy, and so is the Millenium but not at that price tag. Thank God for the Perdomo Estate Seleccion.

I agree with Bud451, Partagas 150's suck a fattie! I bought an AA and it was acrid. I was convinced this was a fluke, so I bought another from a different source. Shame on me. WAY overrated. On the good value, 5 Vegas, Padron Anniversario Knockoffs(corona) IMHO.

Low end:

Liga IV Almirante - at $0.88 each, they were totally doggie turd. Tried to give away as many as I could but think I smoked the majority of the bundle.

Rocky Patel Cargo Grande Toro - won 3 singles at $2.00 each, gave 1 away (...lucky me!...), the other two split badly and became unsmokeable. At the time (2013), I coulda spent the $6 on a Padron and be very happy.

So while I didn't lose a lotta money, it certainly could have been directed towards much, much better smokes.

High end:

Sort of a toss up between:

My Father Garcia y Garcia Toro Deluxe - a behemoth 6.75 x 54 that I was "influenced" to buy at a Tat / MF smoker event by Jose Ortega, the VP of Sales for My Father Cigars. He was there to, obviously, promote / push sales and pushed / egged me on get a cigar well out of my wheelhouse, size-wise. I think his nickname is "Bulldog" and he certainly wouldn't let me walk away without buying one. At $36.00 it's one of the most expen$ive cigars I have ever bought.

Casa Fuente 10th Anniversary Salomon - another biggie at 6.50 x 56, I musta been "location drunk" as I bought a 5er of these! They're good but not $34.00 good.

I’ve got some 20 for 20 bundles from that famous place. I don’t do business with them anymore. My credit card company busted an employee stealing info. Not the company fault. But my card company was on the line with me and busted their ass Felt like famous should’ve gave me a coupon or something there. I did let them know.

^ Angel I smoked that same cigar at a shpo and loved it.

In the last year or so, El Güegüense (The Wise Man). The worst constructed cigar I have tried to smoke in a long time. It had a huge tunnel running a solid inch ahead of the fire. Completely unsmokeable. Paid $13 retail.

La flor dominicana 25th anniversary I bought at a shpo about 1and half hours away. $20 I had alot better la flor dominicana and I love LFD. So I figured it was just a bad roll next time I was back in that town stopped in and bought another. Same story just not that good to me definitely not worth the coin. I don't think it was rolled on a virgins thighs like advertised.

I personally don't believe ANY cigar is a waste of money if you were willing to pay for it to begin with. We are literally lighting money on fire by choosing this passion. For me personally the Cigar is only part of the experience of relaxing, enjoying the experience of the Cigar, Drink, People the experience is being shared with if any and what your watching/listening to while smoking. There are plenty of cigars that i wouldn't buy again either for the flavor, price, construction etc but i never regret the first one... don't know if you don't try.
