George W came across very well last night and he will be a leader we can be proud of for the next 4 years! Tax Cut! What is there not to like about a tax cut? I think he will be able to work both sides of the "asile" and get this plan through. Go get em dubya!

Yes, this was a very successful first address by the President. A tax cut is a great thing, but the devil is in the details. He wisely highlighted all of the non-controversial issues and gave a commanding performance. It was interesting to see that he is beginning to soften his views on such issues as the death tax, marriage tax, and Social Security investment accounts. This shows that he is willing to compromise. Or as some call it "waffle". After just doing my taxes, I personally, would love to see the marriage tax end. I am amazed to see that he has capped military spending, with only an adjustment for inflation. With the quality of life and pay raise initiatives he proposed this will actually net out as a reduction in military spending. A very bold move for a Republican and the Chiefs of Staff were noticeably icy at points.

Lastly, I am concerned with such a large tax cut that the budget forecast will not hold. But to be realistic, the budget forecasts on both sides of the aisle always overly rosy...Unless they are analyzing their opponent’s plans.

In the end, Bush has proposed a budget that is equal to last year’s budget with an adjustment for inflation. The challenge will be to get consensus on where to make the cuts in order to pay for the new initiatives that are proposed.

Cuts should come relatively easy. He hammered home most of the Key Issues by assuring that Education, Social Security, Healthcare (especially for seniors), and the like will be Increased. Additionally, the intent is to pay down the debt, and to do so with a decrease in revenue (taxes). This can ONLY be accomplished by ridding our government of "fluff" programs that cater to special interests. Yes, the devil is in the details, but the general populus will benefit in the long run. Smaller government is a good thing.

i hope you all save these wonderful, written expectations of the new president and look at them in about a year or 2.

I think Rick and Thumper should volunteer to give their tax savings to the Rainbow Coalition or the the Teamsters since they don't want to have the tax cut suggested by GWB! I am sure that Rev Jesse would do a good job of supporting one of his trollups with the money. LOL Charlie

back in the good old days, local politicians used to buy votes by giving people 5 or 10 bucks to vote for them. the voters were smarter than. they got their money right away. now voters will vote on the come, expecting to get the money later. it's called buying votes anyway you look at it. but always the hook, the vig, the catch. do you remember when soc sec tax taken out of your pay was 4% of the first $25,000 you earned? now it's a bit higher isn't it?

FLASHBACK ALERT!!! Rick, (oh, excuse me: RICK), I believe it was your low life Bill Clinton who got elected on HEALTHCARE REFORM. Was that buying votes? C'mon let's get real. Dubyas intentions are to push through this plan. The Dems hate it because it cuts their specialty programs that pad their purses. Some Republicans don't like it because they say it doesn't go far enough. We'll land in the middle somewhere and bask in the glory. If you still want to fund a program that perpetuates poverty then do as Char suggests and give to Jesse Jacksons Rainbow Coalition. Or better yet, move to Hillarys New York and support her. She'll be glad to take your money and give it to theives. In the mean time, enjoy this breath of fresh air.
