well I believe CI promised to have some type of ratings section up by the first of June. In the meantime, I would comment how politicized this has become in other arenas. Someone mentioned their suspicions about Smoke, and even stated that the tasters know in advance what cigars they were smoking. What sort of facts do you have to back that up? I think the manner Smoke approaches ratings is more authenic that Cigar Aficianado. Sure Smoke chooses the cigars to be rated which may have its outside influences, but I submit the CA has too cozy a relationship with Fuente, and have you noticed that the brands that advertise in CA are most often the ones that get rated, in a way I think CA blackmails cigar manufacturers to advertise with their magazine. I have also noticed that CA completely shuns JR tobacco, only mentioning them with great hesitation. I realize the rating system we have here is peanuts compared to these other ratings in scope, but at least they will be honest.

I agree with aberdeen. Like most commercial areas CA has given in to the political pressure of advertising which affects us all when it comes to honest ratings. Concerning our forum and those who frequent it in the hopes of finding a deal, well let's inform them as to what they can expect. I don't think it would drive up the demand so much it would have an adverse effect on the bidding process. There will still be those who overbid on cheap products and those who are educated to know a deal. That's the beauty of an auction....how bad do you want it. It all balances out in time. As far as users potential to use our site as an educational forum...then so be it. If they are so lazy they can't search a web site at the push of a button or turn a page then I doubt they will even light their own cigar.

plus the ratings we leave will be different almost all the time, one cigar that one person absolutely detests will be loved by another, look at the varying opinions here on Acid cigars. For auctions themselves, for one not everyone who bids comes in here, and also as someone who places items on Ebay and am often thrilled that the books go for more than my own retail, the overbidders is a bonus for CI, more power to them.

I think this post is directed towards my statements in earlier posts, so I will reply to our friend ABERDEEN. For starters, I don't disagree with your points regarding CA. In fact I think it is worse than you claim. Let’s face it gang, co-op advertising funds all marketing campaigns. That’s just good business. To answer your question about SMOKE; your right, I have absolutely NO proof that they pad the ratings, or tip off judges. But then again, where’s your proof that they don’t? Where are you going with this? Look, my comments are of a matter of opinion based on marketing experience and historical tendencies. Whatever it takes to grow sales always enters into the picture. By no means am I accusing anyone of anything, just simply stating a hunch. Let’s not get carried away here. If the “perception is reality theory” upsets people, oh well. I also stated that I would give the El Original a fair chance before raising my eyebrows at SMOKE again. I am glad you feel the ratings are on the up and up. For the most part I think they are too. I will not try to compare SMOKE to CA, let alone question their individual approaches when it comes to rating cigars. I could care less about their ethic system. Why? Because I subscribe to both magazines! I absorb the good info for what it’s worth and ignore the stuff I think is BS. Both magazines/sites have their good qualities and both are full of a lot of crap. I will not however, put the halo on SMOKE and the horns on CA. If you want to jump into SMOKE’S backyard because you think their relationship with C-Bid will somehow get you a better deal on cigars, go ahead. Whatever works pal. Just cancel your CA subscription first so we can forgo labeling you a hypercritic. Yeah, I know, you don’t have one. Yadda yadda yadda!!! Talk to you guys soon
