What a COWARD. The "popular" Vermont Senator. Who ever heard of him before all of this bull? The guy is a joke. Vermont is only considered a "Moderate" state because it's inhabited by a bunch of TREE HUGGERS who don't want to PAY TAXES. It's quite a dilemma. I think Ben & Jerry's bought out a local Dairy Hut. Must be Evil Capitalism! Jeffords has ALWAYS riden the fence. Call it moderate republican, passionate conservatism, or conservative liberism, the bottom line is that he is "Specifically Neutral" on most every item. This move is total BS. He could very easily stay in party and vote whichever way he wants. Or, he could QUIT and try to get re-elected as an Independent or Democrat. To do what he did, at this point in the new regime, is for one purpose only. EFFECT. Jeffords finally found a way to be significant. And the Liberals will chaulk it up as a "Choice". What a joke!

Rick you have been listening to the liberal left too long! Jeffords is a little nobody, who thinks he can become something with this sudden show of power! He should have been a democrat all along and he probably would be selling Pumpkins by the side of the road in Vermont, instead of giving the Teddy Kennedys and Tom Daschels something to crow about! What a slimey little worm!

Oh, and I am sure that this is the first week that Senator Jeffords has been mentioned on this board! Who was he and how the hell did he get elected? Can you spell Republican Party? A turncoat! Independent(ha, ha that would get a lot of votes and financial support)? He would change sides in the middle of a bar fight. Yes, I hear he is a martial arts expert. I still wouldn't trust him to cover my back. Charlie

I always thought that the voters were smart enough to vote for someone on the basis of the issues not for the party per se. If not, these voters are doing a terrible injustice to themselves and to us. I am firm in my belief that Jeffords did what he did honorably and with the thoughts of his constituents in mind. I understand the right-wing Republicans on this site being upset, you lost the Senate. However do not get into a huff because someone went with his heart and not his checkbook. Not even Bush's bribery of a new commitee spot would sway Sen. Jeffords. The man is a class act........Brent

Brent. Wrong again. A class act would have quit rather than be elected with money from the Republican National Committee. A class act would not have campaigned WITH President Bush just 6 or 9 months ago on the VERY SAME ISSUES that he supposedly disagrees so vehimently that he changed his party status. A class act would not have CHEATED the voters who choose candidates based on party. Brent, you live in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts for crying out loud! Do you think people here vote for the individual? If you put "democrat" on the ticket you automatically get 60% of the vote. If your name is Kennedy, then you get 75%. Don't kid yourself. What Jeffords did was DISHONEST, UNAMERICAN, AND COWARDLY. By the way, had he simply quit (like former democrat Phil Gramm), then I would have the utmost respect for his decision and his choice. Even if it meant a loss of Republican Majority. My feelings towards the insignificant twerp from Vermont is not based on the outcome, but rather on the means.

Tailgater, I couldn't agree with you more! Jeffords is not to be trusted and when he decides to run for Governor his state, it will be interesting to see how he lies and cheats his way along the campaign trail. What a weasel. Charlie

Rick, the outcome is what made us notice. The outcome is what has me scared. But the path which Jeffords chose is what has me angry. We bitch when professional athletes use extracurricular drugs, but we watch silently as the leaders of this country piss away every ounce of morality and self worth that is left. The ends does not justify the means. Until we teach our children that BY EXAMPLE this country is headed in the wrong direction. Don't oversimplify it just because you may be happy with the outcome.

Yes, but if the chocolates come from the left, they will have many strings and hidden agendas attached to them!
