For the record, I don't agree with the Bush Tax Cut. I would rather see EVERY penny go towards reducing the defecit. But if it takes a tax cut of this magnitude to Force Efficiency in the government, then I like the concept. We spend far too much on petty "feel good" issues that should not concern the federal government at all. We also give funding to important programs with little or no means to measure effectiveness. Why can't the country be run more like a corporation? Is it because the Liberal Democrats HATE profitable corporations so much?

i like profitable corporations. i am not a corporation, but i like to make a profit. 400% to 500% for providing electricity, now through brokers who buy and sell power, is a bit much. the government is like a kid 16 with a credit card given by their parents. spend, spend, spend. someone else will pay the bill. the government is suposed to redistribute our tax money in the form of defense of it's citizens, infrastructure, and the general good welfare (not a welfare programs)of it's citizens.

Rick(please don't take this personal) you have described the good Democrat Congressmen and women of our country when you discuss the kid of 16 with all the good things to do and buy and deal with and not worry who will pay the bill! Sorry, couldn't pass that one. Charlie

Actually it is the Republicans who spend money. They just don't spend it on the people, so it looks like they are spending less. That is how Reagan almost drove this country into the ground, by irresponsible spending. That is also what Bush wants to do. Buy off voters with a tax cut regardless whether the country can afford it. It is the goverments job to provide for the welfare of the citizens and to protect them where they cannot protect themselves. Unless you are a Repulican, then you beleive it is the job of Govt to protect big business and special interests from the welfare of the people.

I happen to believe and so did our fore fathers that. It's the Federal Governments job to protect our borders(our sovereinty if you will)nothing More!!!It's our State Governments job to protect it's citizens and it's a citizens job to provide for the welfare of they're families(not the governments).Only after way too many years (40 I believe) of a Democratically controlled congress(read since the new deal)Not to mention the socialistic teachings of the liberal government controled schools could you people possibly believe otherwise.
The Socialist/Communists are winning and I for one refuse to go down without a fight.

Your absolutely right! It's Bulls***. The dems like to take from the working class and give to the non-workers for votes. Someone living in gov't houseing loves new gov't programs because they don't pay for them. If you don't work you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Glenn

Uncle, with the blatant exception of the military, where do the republicans spend more than the democrats?? The new republican platform has shifted towards the "middle" by supporting some of the democratic agenda, but they make the distinction of trying to (gasp) MEASURE THE RESULTS. Such outrage! How dare we measure the effectiveness of welfare, education, etc. Both sides spend way too much. But let's face it: the military defends EVERYBODY with equal fervor. You can't say that about any of the democratic white elephants (no contradiction intended).

charlie, i think i have described most senators and congressmen and woman. they all get the 50 cent haircut, the gym, the special parking at the airport, and there is something about young female interns. remember what kissinger said "power is the ultimate aphrodisiac." a congressman wins his seat with maybe a 10,000 vote margin to represent his group. he stays in congress a long time. now he he is head of a committee and thinks he represents the whole country. he does not have to pay into the social security fund, he has his own private plan. he is above us all. a truly important person. in actuality he is a public servant gorging himself at the public trough because he convinced a handfull of people that he will serve them. soon he suspects he knows what's best for them and you have the decline of rome.
