What a joke! Choosing a city so corrupt and repressive that this should set back the Olympics by 30 years or more! Gosh, I am really looking forward to the mechanized skills games in Teanimin (sp) Square such as Tank manuvering and tank slalom run! This is a disgrace to the free world. Charlie

The lighting of the torch route will be an obstacle course with land minds, military police, tanks, and rock throwers.

I have to agree, Beijing????! A city that only criticism of Paris (another Olympics contender) is that it has dog piles on it's sidewalks! PAris bid committee officials retaliated that Beijing doesn't have the same problem because dogs aren't on leashes in China- they are on plates. At least Beijing will be more than willing to keep up the tradition of corrupt Olympic host cities and officials, maybe Salt Lake can adopt them as their sister city!

I don't see where racism plays into it at all. That is how Chinese pronounce things. Is ebonics racist? No, I don't think so! Is "Valley Girl" racist?
Well, I'll get off my soapbox fornow, Gotta go have some Runch!

In the PI rules of fair and equitable ways to look at all things considered proper (in their light) you can make all the fun you want to about the "Valley Girls" and "RedNecks" because they are for the most part white and considered fair game to the liberal left! Charlie

Rick, are you serious? You can't possibly be THAT sensitive. Lighten up, and light one up. I told a joke the other day and used both an Italian and Irish accent. Does that make me racits also? By the way, I'm half Italian and half Irish... Solly, no Chinese.

sellnmony & tailgater: why don't you ask one of your friends that is chinese and see if he is offended or ask ching li who posts here what he thinks. personally i have never met any chinese person who spoke like that. there is a story about a chinese man about to give a speech at a convention. as he got up to speak someone said to him "speakee english/" he gave his speech in flawless english, quoting latin, french and spanish. when he sat down he asked he person "likee spechee?"

Dude, I have lots of Vietnamese and Phillipine friends in the Houston area who think "A Christmas Story" is an awesome movie. Besides, this ridicule is focused on politically corrupt, commie anarchist, no human rights havin, kill em if they are a free thinker, "not handsome, good rooking maybe" (guess what tv show) Chinese government. And trust me, my Vietnamese friends are not too keen on their government either.

Rick it seems you had rather defend the rights and feelings of other countries and groups than your own country?!? Sorry, but just sounds that way. Notice I did not put in "Solly"! Charlie

Rickamaven; You have never met an Asian American that talks with that type of accent??? I think that everyone else here has! I just got of the phone with a gal from Vietnam, I could only understand every other word that she was saying, but she got her point across and we were able to get the deal done... I think it is great that she can speak multiple languages and feel that more Americans should learn to speak other languages. I speak two other languages, broken, but I too can get my point across. My conversations, at times, will make fun of the way rich people, poor people, Asian people, French people, DEMOCRATS, even Irish and English people.... I'm Irish and English so I guess this racist **** needs to go burn a cross in his front lawn!

Rick this one time that I know you are blowing smoke when you say you never met an Asian/American with the accents that some on this site are "mocking"! YOU DO LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA!!!! It isn't hard to find any accent you want to locate, spoken in any mixture of broken English to near perfect English within miles of where you live. I am a Southerner, who has lived here for 20 years, and I still have my Southern accent, that some like to make fun of and I don't go off on them when they do! Go visit Little Saigon or Chinatown or Koreatown and you will find all the accents you want in many forms of diction. Charlie

I hate to do this, but here goes: I went to Bejing some years back, and I have to admit that not one Chineese person who spoke English had difficulty with their R's or L's. Maybe it was the regional dialect, or maybe it's other Asian nationalities that have that particular accent, but I did notice it since that is indeed the stereotype. But with that said, it's still not "racist" to use such terms in a joking manner. LIGHTEN UP! Light one up. And drop the PC Bull****. If everyday language and jokes offend you then close your doors and windows and fester in the dark, all alone. There, you can't be offended.

I certainly am not a diction expert, but all fun aside, I must agree with Rick and Joe on the "R" and "L"'s as far as Chinese go when they speak English! I was just having some PI fun with this and all the thin skinned "PI police"! Gosh that felt good to "fess" up, but as far as other Asians go.........different story! Charlie
