This is indeed a serious issue in America today. But why do people insist on using the Race Issue when it simply isn't? I was watching a sports program and saw some semi-famous black guy spewing over the fact that the media and America are against Barry Bonds breaking the Home Run Record because of his color. Was he implying that America doesn't embrace black athletes? Don't tell that to MJ, Tiger or the rest of the multi-millionaire "heros" that dot our landscape. This guy insisted it was race. Forget the fact that Bonds is notorious for being a selfish prick. Why do people of any race, creed or religion use bigotry as a shield to hide behind? Is it cowardness, or do they think that it will help the restitution lawsuit? Frankly, I'm sick of it.

i agree the "race card" is played too often. al sharpton, excuse me, phony al sharpton, started with it, with the black girl raped or abused or something like that and got his face known because of this scam.
however you have pointed to the "restitution lawsuit", only as an example. have you forgotten the use of the "religion card" played by religious institution who want to claim descrimination when they feel they are being discriminated against?

Rick, you are right. I shouldn't focus on just the race issue. It's also a battle cry for religion, height, weight, personality, handicap, etc. People simply want a free ride and I'm sick of giving it to them. Personal responsibility is a thing of the past. And the people who expect others to continually cover their ass are cowards. Period.

Right on! Barry Bonds is a self serving prick who white America would be pulling against if he were white! Race is not the issue, it is Barry Bonds and nobody wants him to hit 70, not even his teammates! Read the Sports Illustrated article where Jeff Kent blasts him for what he is,,,,,,,,a self promoting big mouth, who acts like the home run title doesn't mean anything to him, but would love to break the record! Barry was on ESPN tonight putting himself of as holier than thou. Even had his gay artist lover on there helping him out. If you pay close attention to what he says as opposed to what is said against him and weigh the arguments, gives pause for thought. He is closely bound to his family. The majority of the perceptions are derived by the media. If you have any sort of dysfunctional mentality in you, you too would be offstandish to the media and therefore be given a bad rap. Don't get me wrong, I think he is more full of himself than any other player in baseball (not football, that goes to Deon) but he's not a cry baby (like almost every Yankee baseball player), he doesn't do Billy White Shoes Johnson imitations, and he shows open affection for his kids. Someone else using the colored card for him should not reflect on him. Just shows that induviduals stupidity.

I don't think that the "race card" is a reflection on Bonds. This was given as one example. A blantant example. Here was a guy who blamed America's non-interest in Bonds HR Chase on Color. It's a joke, but one that apparently carries some weight amongst the "do-gooders" who dot the landscape. They are following J. Jacksons lead: If someone is down, it's the majorities fault.

We should all know by now that the "Race Card" is used when it benefits the person of color that is playing the card! Nothing more, nothing less! All part of the PI of the world of sport! Charlie

And BTW, I am pulling against Barry Bonds (not for color or race) but because of the jerk he happens to be! I am not pulling against Sammy Sosa, and hope he hits enough homeruns to pass Barry! Yes, sad to say, as good as Barry may be, I do not like him and his attitude! Does that make me a racist? No, just a fan who pulls for lots of players despite race, color or creed! I just don't like the Paul O'Neills, Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffields and Neon Dions of the world of sport! Charlie

You have to like Sammy Sosa's fun attitude toward the game. He's the one player who earns his money. Even during the original great home-run race between Sammy and Mark McGwuire, McGwuire's attitude seemed to erode as the season went on. Not so with Sammy!

Sammy is a credit to any race, color or creed! We need more like him and Shawn Green, Cal Ripken, Tony Gwynn, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, to name a few! Charlie

Wasn't Barry holding-out not too many years ago because some other outfielder was making more millions than him? Whether Barry personally uses the race card or others pull it for him, I can't stand the guy because he doesn't respect the game IMHO. As for RICK's assertion than every slice of mankind has it's idiots playing "whoa is me", please refer to the following.

Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult - once we truly understand and accept it - then life is no longer difficult. Because once it has been accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.

Most do not fully see this truth that life is difficult. Instead they moan more or less incessantly, noisily or subtly, about the enormity of their problems, their burdens, and their difficulties, as if life were generally easy, as if life should be easy. They voice their belief noisily or subtly, that their difficulties represent a unique kind of affliction that should not be, and that somehow has been especially visited upon them, or else upon their families, their tribe, their class, their nation, their race, or even their species, and not upon others. I know about this moaning because I have done my share.

Todog, if the post was difficult, you are suppose to blame it on a failed educational system, economic disparity in your neighborhood, childhood trauma, etc.....work with me here, man!!!!! lol

For chrisssake, they hit baseballs....they didn't invent penicellin (sp?) or cure a fatal disease..LOL...I went to a Cubs game a few months ago...haven't went in a lonnnnng time (about ten yrs)...What really impressed me was that everytime the Cubs made a great save, out, catch, play, etc, Sammy EVERYTIME would thank the crowd by doing that thing he does with his hand, kissing his hand and pounding his chest, and then raise his arm to every area of Wrigley Field around him...EVERYTIME...as if he was thanking the fans for their support and as if the fans helped make the play!...Really impressed me with his demeanor and attitude toward the fans...I look forward to attending another game soon!...What a class act!
