Now everybody's got me worried about my use of the term 'Paleface'

Could we get a considered opinion?
I'd hate to have to stop using it, as it is one of my favorite words in the whole Paleface language.

And, Chiefburg--well put.

..Tell me one time in history where the "N" word has been acceptable, post slavery...

Last night on BET in that music video.....the one with the 'bitches and hoe's' dancing in bikini's while that guy slid a credit card in her ass crack. Seems to be very acceptable in that context.....

Paleface's must wait and experience more oppression before they will be allowed to feel good...
yes, I'm sure there is a statute on the books somewhere that specifies the exact length of time necessary that a group must be underdog before Congress takes action and more laws and legislation are passed allowing them to once again feel like happy, positive people--fully aware of their value as humans

All the commentary good…..

Feeling the offense for the group you do not represent? That’s a little freaky. If I had to defend all the slights and slurs presented to President Obama in these forums then it would be a JOB. I think you should check your outrage gringo, your sensibilities are similar to many but I prefer the raw nature of what is posted. I read and grew familiar with youse guys and gals through your commentary, each post revealing some emoting feelings.

And sometimes we regret, so I for one am oh so careful what I commit to the pen and World Wide Web as it is then immortal. But I am shocked, outraged, worried, and sometimes pleased to read the musings of the masses sans speech police.

The President Obama posts reflect much vitriolic crap. I think even you have participated. But many of these posts, by some of the proclaimed “purest”, coyly reference murder and assassination but were not cause for out rage?

I just ignore the hate threads my friend, pray for peace, and prepare for war.

'..Disco is very offensive I think it should be removed from your user name. It promotes a drug sub-culture that has turned poor innocent ghetto children into crack heads...'
----------------------------------------------------
Disco was a musical genre that was all encompassing. Black, White, Hispanic et al enjoyed the music and dancing. As for drugs, powdered cocaine was used by all. Probably more by middle and upper class White folk. (Crack seems to be predominately an inner city phenomenon).

'..Your definition’s are a little slanted...'
---------------------------------------
The last word of that line can be considered to be offensive to a couple friends of mine. Please cease and desist.

Re# post 70
'..8trackdisco, was just trying to start some ****...'
----------------------------------------------------
According to Forum Rules, your use of the slang word for excrement is forbidden. Being you are all about the rules, please dutifully request your banishment for your use of profanity.

Re post #98
'.. I ain’t no **** - thats gross, and I don’t whine. I actually don’t even think **** is a very offensive word anymore...'
----------------------------------------
So, O' Pope of What is Offensive and What is Not, "****" you deem okay?

Perhaps you should look to be elected as the Kim Jung Il of the American lexicon. Then again, he wasn't elected. He was self appointed. Is that what you are after here?

Truthfully Gringo, I point this all out to show the hypocracy of your words versus your actions. Nothing more, nothing less.

As for the pulled thread, you are right about one thing; I didn't see how/when/if it degenerated. It was gone before I could read it.

As long as there are words, people are going to offended. The "offended" are more numerous, and are manufacturing reasons to cry (fill in the blank)-ISM.

We are turning into a country of over sensitive victims. 20 years from now, we can replace the Stars & Stripes with a labia majora on a pink background.

Nah. Come to think of it, it will more likely be labia minora instead.

8track,

Another sad attempt to distract from the origional problem. My "disco" was a mockery of your mockery.

The origional thread used clearly racist remarks.

You either support using racist remarks or you dont.

I guess I know where some stand on this.

You can cut/paste anything I have ever said. I have better stuff to do than that.

I have no white guilt, my ancestors were immigrants in the early 1900's, and American Indian.

If you support the use of the "N" word or other clear racial slurs, then don't hide or attempt to redirect the conversation in such a riduclous manner. Put on a little pointy hood and dance around a burning cross. I was clear about what I was against.

I don't feel bad for black people, hispanic's, or any other race. I surely don't buy the "Oh poor white me, I am so oppressed because I don't have a white history month." Give me a **** break.

This whole conversation really is pretty funny. A bunch of middle aged white men DEFENDING the use of the words "****" and "****".

Makes me wonder.

well sadness first thing in the morning...shoulda kept my eyes closed I guess

I have one question for all of you, whether these words should be posted here or not--besides this my question to all of you is, given I have asked humbly and sincerely for your insight and advice as men and fathers, am I to teach my children that name calling and the perpetuation of racial slurs directed at any race is funny and a "right" in public discourse?

If I was having a one to one conversation with charlie and he made a joke about latina women and I joked back about white men and we respect and care for eachother as friends, then we'd laugh and say j/k and no offense taken. But that isn't what I read on that thread or this one and it isn't a private conversation on someone's back patio (well maybe) and wasn't a joke on the other thread, as far as I can tell.

I like you guys, can't we just play nice and get along? Respect is respect...I was tempted to shoot back a local term for a laugh and to lighten it up when I first read all this, but I wasn't sure if it would be taken as a joke so I used restraint, out of respect.

I have thick skin...so respond as you would to a man, my friends LOL

Decided to share this with you. It's getting published in a few months:

Adolescent American

When Jimmy called me a ****,
his sister told. She told her dad
who stepped on Jimmy's back
while Jimmy did push-ups.

But what I remembe now is Jimmy
doin push-ups. He was showing off,
not really caring about my heritage,
more the small breasts, and hips widening,
more the slow walk with his sister.

What he really wanted was to see
the fire light up in my brown eyes.

lluvia,

It is very sad. The origional thread contained pure hate speech. Of course then it turned into a "gringo is a censor, or a little bitch, tattle tail, etc.." - whatever.

I stand up for what I think is right. The origional thread was not.

I think you and others can tell from most of my posts what I am like.

The post above is the center of the true issue I "complained about". Most of the posters that responded, danced around the issue, tried to make me look like some "anti-free speech" dude.

When I put in a simple terms, it isn't so fun any more.

Sorry, if I made your day sad, I truly am. The origional thread made me sad. True racism is ugly. Racism was exactly where the first thread was headed (I think it was already there).

Gringo

P.S. "LLuvia" by Johnny River (Salsero) is one of my favorite salsa songs of all times. This discussion makes me want to forget all the ignorance and put on my Saturday salsa CD's. I think I will, despite my 15 year old daughters objections.

The disco era in music and dancing:

Leisure suits made of polyester

neru jackets with sparkles all over them

lighted dance floors

ah John Travolta was the King of this era

BeeGees had the beat down and sold millions of records cd's...anybody remember Rick Dees and "Disco Duck"?

Lot of bad movies like the Beach Party movies.

It was a fun era, although I could never get into Liesure suits......did like puffy Tom Jones shirts.

"You could be dancing.......dancing....

[DD - Donald Duck voice]
[BS - background singers]
[EP - Elvis voice]

Went to a party the other night
All the ladies were treating me right
Moving my feet to the disco beat
How in the world could I keep my seat

All of a sudden I began to change
I was on the dance floor acting strange
Flapping my arms I began to cluck
Look at me..
I'm the disco duck

[DD:] Ah, get down, mama
I've got to have me a woman, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
[BS:] Disco, disco duck
[DD:] Got to have me a woman
[BS:] Disco, disco duck

[BS:] Disco, disco duck
[DD:] All right
[BS:] Disco, disco duck
[DD:] Ah, get down mama,
Oh mama, shake your tail feather, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha

When the music stopped I returned to my seat
But there's no stoppin' a duck and his beat
So I got back up to try my luck
Why look

[DD:] Everybody's doin' the
[DD+BS] Disco, disco duck
[DD+BS] Disco, disco duck
[BS:] Try your luck
[DD:] Wave to me
[BS:] Don't be a cluck

Gringo,

I cut and paste to make sure I don't misquote.

'..If you support the use of the "N" word or other clear racial slurs, then don’t hide or attempt to redirect the conversation in such a riduclous manner. Put on a little pointy hood and dance around a burning cross. ..'
---------------------------------------------
I support the idea of people all playing by the sames rules. Nice to see if I disagree with you, I'm automatically equated to being a KKK member. Based on the KKK ideology, I am one of their targets as well. Thanks for putting me in a category I don't fit into at all. What next? Calling rfenst and topper Nazis?

'..Give me a **** break. ..'
-------------------------------
Again, breaking Forum Rules (profanity). Here's what's printed on the Forum Rules page....

"..The basic rule for using the Forum is that you use good judgment and common sense in keeping your comments and messages reasonable. Some examples of unreasonable messages may include the use of profanity, .."

Aren't you the self appointed uber morality figure here? The guy that is going to report violations of Forums rules, you've broken at least three (The "S" word, the "F" word and the other "F" word.

You can't have it both ways.

'..A bunch of middle aged white men DEFENDING the use of the words "****" and "****". ..'
----------------------------------------------------
See the above regarding Forum Rules. But this actually helps make my point. If there are seven words (per Carlin) that can never be used, and we continue to add more words to the banned list, we are eliminating ways to communicate with each other.

Are you also a fan of banning books you find offensive?

As for you specifically being a "middle aged white guy", do you take advantage of being (and I'm truly not trying to offend you, but I really don't know if this term is correct) of "mixed race" to serve your purposes based on time and place?

I am part Indian myself (feather, not turban), but if I hear someone say something that could be considered offensive to some, I don't pull out the Indian Card. I smile, nod, and continue on with my day.

lluvia,
I 100% completely agree with you. I'm careful not to swear in front of my Son (I slip now and again) and don't use the words we are discussing now.

I have been super-clear to my Son, that anybody that makes deicsions soley based on skin color is an absolute moron. The problem lies with trying to teach a seven year old the nuances. If your skin is dark enough, let "****" fly. But, if you don't have enough pigmentation in your skin, it is a taboo.

The inevitable follow up question I'll get eventually will be something like "how black" does a person have to be? Black? Brown? Mocha Vanilla Latte?

Lluvia, you are in education. In your opinion, I am I to train this nuance?

But that is the GOOD thing about this thread. It's an open discussion. It's not some 1X1 discussion in a barrio or trailer park, its having opposite ends of the issue discussing the points.

I don't have any hate for Gringo. Sitting down with him over a cigar and discussing this would be great. I'm 100% for it. It's BECAUSE stuff like this isn't discussed in public is the reason there is so much hate just below the surface in this country.
