Why is everyone so afraid of special interest groups? If you're too stupid to see through the bull**** then you shouldn't be voting. Or you could move to Florida and vote incorrectly. I agree that every penny given to a campaign should be accounted for and be made available to the public, but to put limits or even make it illegal to obtain funds from groups and individuals is not the solution. I further suggest that it is unconstitutional. If I could afford to give 100 million dollars to a candidate that I liked, why shouldn't I be able to? This, people, is why we vote. Simply vote for the canidate you prefer. Don't make a law to make you feel better. It won't solve anything. And you know it.

Tailgater there is truth in what you say. However, if you give me 100 million dollars, and I'm elected, there is a perception that now I am beholding to you. Would I favor your wants and needs at the expense of the people? Would you expect something for your money? I think Ken Lay did.

Good points. But we need to deal with the problem where it lies. We shouldn't make it illegal for the ethical people to do what is in their rights. It would be like taking away our right to own a gun. Yes, guns are used in heinous crimes. But we should still be allowed to own them until such time we are proven to be irresponsible. And if we do create laws to prevent moneys from groups, do you think that would stop anything? It would only stop those who follow the law, all others would simply sneak in the funds under the radar. Why can't people understand that?

I guess you are right. Many people who are supposed to display exemplary ethical virtue(elected officials) subvert those ethics for expediency. These same people likely will not have a problem doing something illegal for the same reasons they do something unethical. The bill will be vetoed by GWB anyhow. I think it was purposely constructed as it is so it COULD be vetoed.

why don't we do away with ALL political television ads and have the candidates stump their way across the country?

I dont think the general poulation is as smart as some think. They respond to clever ad campains that this 100 million could buy. Thus giving the richer man the advantage. However I agree that we have enough laws and restrictions in this country already. cj

The only reform we need is for people to be smart enough to understand issues for themselves and to be able to understand what they are voting for! Need to stop the dead bodies from voting in many areas of country! Charlie

We need an electorate that will turn out to vote in numbers greater than 35 percent. Until citizens take their franchise seriously, limiting campaign financing is unimportant.

Speaking of voters, I don't remember getting to vote on the 'energy policy' that Ken and boys helped influence. So, it really doesn't matter how smart a voter I am. Money buys an ear if nothing else. I ddidn't get invited in to discuss policies for my industry. If anyone doesn't think money buys influence, I've got some Lone Wolves I can sell you.
