Certainly, I love cigars...that is why I am here. Yet, cigars aside, there is a moral imperative to opening free trade with Cuba.
Free trade would benefit both of our nations. Cuba would open a large market to our agricultural goods, which suffer now from low prices. Opening markets increases demand, which will boost prices for this hurting industry. We can export medicine and manufactured goods to this sick nation, among many industries. American corporations can invest in Cuba, increasing the wealth of our corporations and of the impoverished people of Cuba. On the flipside, Cuba can import many items, including tobacco and sugar cane. Free trade would benefit both nations well.
The double standards of the Clinton Administration are horrible. They supported free trade with two other communist nations, China and North Korea. China threated to destroy Los Angeles in 1996 with a nuclear missile, yet trade continues unstifled. North Korea will soon have missiles capable of hitting American shores. Yet, trade with another communist nation, Cuba, is strictly forbidden. In fact, Clinton increased the penalty for smuggling cigars. There is a clear double standard between allowing trade with treacherous communist nations, China and North Korea, and another communist nation, Cuba. Now that the cold war is over, we should bury the hatchet and start introducing Cuba to the morally strong system of capitalism.
With capitalism comes economic freedoms, which translates to free thought. Free thought leads to free actions, which leads to democracy. Let us initiate a beneficial trade move to help both nation's economies, and to lead Cuba on the moral path of democracy.

Give me your tired, your sick, and oh yeah...several hundred boxes of good Cuban's. Open the flood gate and let the buying begin!
