On a recent trip to Cuba we bougth some boxes of Montecristo #4 and Cohiba Lancero and Esplendido.
On the montecristo #4 after a few months of aging they appear on the cigars a bunch of small bugs.
1- What are these bugs?
2- How do we prevent them?
3- What should we do with the cigars no?

Hey Bal...first, like Unklebill, let me offer my condolence for your loss. Now, 1st answer...tobacco beetles. Yours sticks became warm enough for the eggs to hatch and the little critters chewed their way out, ruining some good sticks. #2...When puschasing large numbers of cigars, I usually place them in a zip lock bag, put the bag into a tupperware container and the container into the freezer for three to five days to destroy the beetles and their eggs. Next, take the container out of freezer and put it in the fridge for two days to begin the thawing process. Take container out and let it sit at room temperature for one day. At this time, put the cigars into your humidor. #3...Unfortunely, it sounds as if all of your cigars have been affected. Examine each cigar for small holes. But before you throw your sticks out, wait to read other messages here. There are those of us who maybe able to give you ideas on repairing the least damaged 'gars.

Well, you could spray some Raid on you cigars.
The only down side is the hallucinations you might get when smoking the cigars, but at least the beetles will be gone.

Thats as worse as losing your favorite hunting dog....sigh, sigh. :-( I can't go on...Cuban's lost to the damn beetle again. Sounds like we need a cigar super hero at the Halls of Justice to swoop down and eliminate the pesky little critters. All kidding aside, sorry man....I feel your pain> damn that sounds like that **** Clinton talking now....OK Read My Lips...You have my deepest condolence> alright now the Republican is coming out, had me worried for a minute!

I had the same thing happen with half a box of cohibas. I took all of them and tossed them in the microwave for thirty seconds. No more beetles and no adverse effects, as far as I can tell.

I belive they make beetle traps but I have never found them.
