Actually this just happened to me the other night. I lit up a regular montecristo robusto while working in the garage. I guess I inhaled to much smoke and felt "woozy" the rest of the night and early the next day.

I know it wasn't the cigar, but I'm still gun shy considering that's the only time a gar had made me feel that way.

As for liquor, I remember drinking a fifth of Bacardi 151 with coke my first year at college. Let's just say I didn't touch the hard stuff for another 3 years.

My stomach still turns just thinking about it.

jcwbnimble.

Oh, what brand of gar did it to ya?

The JDN is a little less strength than the orignals~ Try them again...it is a great cigar! But do not operate heavy equipment or drive your car while enjoying the JDN!!

Charlie...yeah, the regular JdNs are fine and I like them. The 1970s hurt me...but I'll have another one of these days...I'll just have to try steak as an appetizer

I had a Joya de Nicaruga Antano last week on a empty stomach and could not drive for an hour. I would rate it a 9.5 out of ten on the strong meter. THE DIPLOMA IS A 13!!!

Tipparillo I had when I was about nine years old. It might have had something to do with the bottle of whiskey I drank with it. giggle giggle!

camacho diploma did it to me twice! I usually like strong cigars, but something about that one really hits me hard. I have one more in my tuppador laughing at me everytime I contemplate tackling the diploma again.

All of the above mentioned cigars have done me in. It took four tries with the JdN Antano before I finished one. The one that really blasted me was a surprise though, a LGC Glorias Extra Maduro with one drink cured me of all smoking and drinking efforts for the evening. Metabolism and what is in the stomach matters!

Same here about 10 months ago. Finally smoked another one at a local tasting event last month and have had several since. But always remember to eat something first.

Joya de Nicaragua's ALWAYS blast me!

But be careful with the Edge corojo!! I had to sit on my porch for 30 minutes to recover.

TSF, what the three last posters said.

If you're new at this hobby, try having a full stomach, coke or similar, and/or plenty of air circulation/ventilation before tackling the stogie.
A Tums will also absorb some of the excess acid in your stomach.

Even a relatively mild cigar will send you reeling if you violate any of the above as a newbie.

Very much right on! There are different degrees at which a cigar might kick you in the ass,and an empty stomach is the first violation you should not break!

I've been very fortunate ... guess I have an 'iron gut' ...

... I can smoke any cigar, anytime of the day or night, and it has never bothered me.

There was one cigar though, when they first came out, that had me turning 'green' and had my world spinning for a few hours ... and it was the Perdomo Estate Selección® 'Monstros'.

Nothing before that ... or after that ...

El Rico Habano can be a heavyweight contender in this area.....so can LGC Serie R maduro, Bolivar Fuerte, and Brazila Amazon, depending on circumstances....just my thoughts.....

Ha. Someone mentioned the Joya's. Yep those have done me in before. CAO Brazilias gave me a buzz when they first came out, but I have smoked enough that I can handle them now. MX2 still will get me there a bit, but I prefer these after a big spicy meal, so they don't get a chance to hit me too hard.

the first non flavored 'gar I had - can't remember what it was - will have to remember to ask Clive when he emails again, plus it's been so long since I've had a 'gar :-( but I nubbed it and five minutes later I was on the couch doing those breathing exercises so I wouldn't worship the porcelain goddess. It took me a long time to nub another non flavored gar again! LOL and I also learned to take my time and savor the taste of the cigar instead of just puffing away. I have at least six months or longer after Sterling makes his appearance before I can enjoy a cigar again and that's hoping that I can and haven't lost the taste for them :-( so next time you all enjoy a cigar enjoy it for me too! LOL

La Glorias Maduro-MY fav., CAO brazilias/ Onyx. I would have to say it was the empty stomach,I was on a empty stomach and along car ride. Not that I never did that before. I noly got sick on a cigar 1 time.

I know I have defintely had a "bad" cigar. It has happened a couple times and the symptoms are always the same. The following morning I wake up with dull pain in my throat. Clearing the phlegm only makes my throat more painful and raw. Over the day , this moves into my sinuses, clogging them up as well. Usually stay with me 3-4 days. Anyone else ever get this? Everytime I have had it happen, I was able to think back to the previous night I have been able to point to a questionable stick. Once on a cheap Costa Rican stick and another time it was on some cheapy from the Philippines.

Yup Villar y Villar, great limbo deal from JR at $7.00 for a box :0) The cigar already stinks before being lit. Would you eat a burger that stinks? Well damn me I smoke the stinky thing...no, not the burger...the stick. Oh man I turned green...but that's ok, at that price I'll give it away to a buddy, then he'll give it away, etc. That's gonna be 20 people sick LMAO!!!

Hi
I remember when Partagas BLack was first advertised. Partagas initially offered a free sample through Cigar Affic. before the line was officially released. Well I went to get my free cigar and went home with two. The next day I decided to smoke the cigar and my stomach just happened to be in desperate need of attention(empty). I was amazed at how buzzed I became. Now please understand I do believe that my empty stomach was part to blame. However I have smoked a number of these cigars(same size and larger) since this event and have a taste for even stronger smokes way before the Partagas(Cuban Torpedo Monte for example mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Monte mmmmmmmmmm)and smoked all of them at one time or another under similar conditions with little effect (or should I say without the buzzzzzzz). I have often wondered if Partagas toned the Black label down a bit. Does anyone have any inside information?
Best
Q

PS I still have the other cigar and will have to try an experiment some day.

Heck, even as a daily cigar smoker, I've had this happen on many occasions, though not so much any more. I had a Cusano Corojo lay me out flat for a couple hours once. They're sneaky little devils--all nice and buttery tasting until you realize you've been smoking the equivalent of battery acid. Truthfully, though, I think it depends upon the occasion--empty stomach, tired, not used to heavy blends, etc.
