I have just smoked my first Fittappalling cigar. It was the worst thing I have ever put in my mouth. It literally tasted like smoking a dirty sock. What I am wondering is, if anyone has ever tried these, what your thoughts were, and is this cigar really consistently that bad or did I get a bad sample?

I take it you're talking of the Fittapaldi cigar? I had heard these were nasty and then saw a review that praised the cigar?

I happen to like them, as well. What I have found is that they smoke a bit better if not sooo moist.

Again a case of the wet maduro. I always keep my maduros a little drier than the norm. The thinker maduro wrap holds to much moisture in a cigar at 70% RH. Try letting it sit at 60-62%.

THICKER Maduro Wrappers tend to do the same thing.

Dearest Uncle,

I am afraid that the voodoo gods have corrupted your taste buds. Your latest post leaves me to think that it may be your brain swelling rather than the cigars mentioned in your earlier article. The Fittapaldi cigars are of excellent content and pose a truly favorable thick, medium bodied smoke similar to the Dos Rios sticks. I tried to locate the flavor of sweat socks but unfortunately I have no prior recollection to compare. I do enjoy reading your entertaining retorts however suggest your compose your cigar ratings prior to pulling out the E-Z Wider.

Love Always,

I find that washing the socks before I smoke them helps a lot (unlike shoelaces and banana peels). It also helps the draw. Just don't let them dry out on the clothes line or drier, and don't use them as a humodor credo anywhere outside of Pigeon Forge

Sorry. Didn't see how that could be taken as sarcastic. It was meant to be light-hearted. When someone complains about the coffee tasting like boiled ox-piss, the immediate response is ... (fill it in yourself) I have nothing but respect for you unklebill.
