I think the only dumba**es out there are the people who fall for this media ploy.

From what I can tell, these are battle reenactments, in which British, American, and German armies reenact battles from WWII. Unfortunately for those not "in the know" about this kind of stuff, someone has to play the bad guy. Kinda like when there are Civil War reenactments, someone had to play the Confederates.

You know, like when kids play "army" or "cowboys and Indians." That's the whole point of a reenactment. Duh!

Buckwheat, if this actually gets your panties in a knot, the only thing that I can suggest is that you get out more often...

Agree. It's a HOBBY. Does collecting German war memorabilia (guns, badges, uniforms, etc.) make them a bad person?

Rich Lott just drew the shortstick this time. d'oh!

People have become so PC these days, they are so quick to react. Gee, I bet they had gas chambers there, and gave 1/2 off admission to Jews. Brick wall

He didn't draw a "short stick."

I really wonder if the people hopping mad over this expect to re-enact a war battle with only one set of soldiers? Or maybe Americans play both sides of the battle, just so *gasp* no one has to don a German uniform?

And did you know that the same uniforms the Germans used during WWII were also in use after WWII? Better not leat Buckwheat know about this, he might start bleeding out his eyeballs in pure indignation!

I played Castle Wolfenstein 3D several years ago, and I watched several shows on the History Channel about Nazi Germany. I think that disqualifies me from running for office.

Jeff,

You are right. Public officials shouldn't be held to a higher standard than a private citizen. Plus the public should understand how he didn't choose to be the SS character, they should understand that someone draws the short straw.

Thank god it wasn't worse. I heard he had a better draw on the civil war re-enactment. They painted him black and made him a slave, people will understand that one better.

One question on your cowbody and indians analogy. Which one is the "good guys"? You probably think the cowboys are right?? You damn racist!!!

...and if he had been into Civil War reenactments and had chosen Confederate grey, surely that would mean that he was pro-slavery too.

I'm not all worked up about it. It is IMO (and you probably agree that it is a pretty stupid thing to do) when you have political aspirations.

How would you feel about a person running for office that played Mohamed Farrah Aidid (or some other high ranking Somalia dirt bag) in a reenactment of the Battle of Mogadishu?

No, it isn't a stupid thing to do. A stupid thing to do is to send suggestive text messages to congressional pages when you're out stumping "family value" to your constituants, or having your "partner" run a brothel out of your apartment.

Playing a German soldier in a WWII re-enactment goes on all the time. Unless you're going to use cardboard cutouts for all of the German soldiers, someone has to dress the part.

Arguing otherwise is just plain idiotic. I can here it now, "sorry guys, I can't play the Nazi guy, even though the Nazis lose, because I think I may run for public office. Can I play one of the God-less communist soviets instead?"

I guess I was editing my post when you were responding to it. I don't have a problem with someone playing an "Ordinary German Soldier" but I do have a problem with someone who thinks it's a good family building thing to play a member of the SS on weekends. The SS where a first class bunch of Ass Bags. Much worse than anything that the "Muslims/terrorists/etc... have done. It's my opinion and if you don't like it stick around, I have others.

To answer the OP's question, no Iott is not a complete dumbass.

The incumbent, however, is. 28 years worth of liberal Democrat stupidity.

I didn't check into whether she was into historic re-enactments on the weekends. Really didn't care. She's done enough in her "work life" to ruin the state of Ohio, so I didn't need to dig into her off time.

Next question.

Yes, because SS units didn't fight during WWII. No, they hung out in the beer halls with their uber-cool uniforms.

This is utterly insane. Seriously.

The whole point of reenacting a battle is make it as realistic as possible. Some of those Civil War reenactors spend thousands of dollars to acquire the actual equipment used during the Civil War. I'm assuming the same is true of the WWII people.

Maybe anyone who has Nazi memorabilia - even those soldiers who actually fought in WWII - should be automatically disqualified from running for office? I dunno.

But you're right. I guess they should have replaced the SS troops with Revolutionary War Hessian soldiers. Because realism isn't as important in these matters as prevailing social and ethnic sensibilities.

(Buckwheat has finally gone over the edge...)

Actually, most liberals sorta belong in camps.

And they usually vote for people who eventually put them there...

Anyone care to comment on this question?

How would you feel about a person running for office that played Mohamed Farrah Aidid (or some other high ranking Somalia dirt bag) in a reenactment of the Battle of Mogadishu?

Meh. I'd be more worried about his stance on critical issues than I would be about what he does on the weekends. Just my $.02.

I agree that the issues are the only true important things. But I just don't feel that any of them tell the truth any more. If they did they would probably not get elected. Do any of the politicians really give two squirts for the "common man"? I don't think so.

Nobody does a reenactment of the Battle of Mogadishu. If you want to see one, just go to Mogadishu.

Agree.

It's comparing apples and oranges IMO. If I want to see a reenactment of Mogadishu, short of going there, I will just watch Black Hawk Down.

It's a much apples to oranges as comparing Confederate soldiers to SS Nazis. But we will just let that slide. Wait, did the confederates build giant ovens to bake union civilians?

I'm not really that good at history. You guys are really giving potts too easy of a time with his lame counterpoints.

In that battle, we lost less than ten people. The other side lost hundreds. This is typical of battles where the US loses: our losses are often far more devastating to our enemies than our wins.

So...ummm...kinda wondering where the outrage is here.

this is kinda funny.
The guy partakes in re-enactments.
Big woop.

The bigger deal should be the photo from the link.
The dude on the left looks like a real skin-head nazi.

Misdirected OUTRAGE!

I gotta party with you more often Buckwheat.
Maybe then you'd let me in on these cool re-enactments.
All we've got here in New England is the civil war and revolutionary war stuff. It gets kinda boring after a while.
