Maybe the video is out there somewhere, but I heard the audio on the radio yesterday when *ahem* Nancy *gag* Pelosi (sorry...just saying the name makes me want to throw up a little) was talking about the debate going on with the "Bush" tax cuts. She wants to extend unemployment, not cut taxes, and she made the comment that (paraphrasing a bit) "helping the rich doesn't create jobs, paying unemployment does." d'oh! HOLY CHIT...did she really just say that?

I just found the quote....
Quote:
"We have to pay for unemployment insurance, we don't have to pay for tax cuts for the rich," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. "Tax cuts do not create jobs. They haven't throughout the Bush administration. Unemployment insurance creates jobs and does not add to the deficit."

She goes on to say...
Quote:
"To those who are standing in the way of this extension, I say: the time to put politics aside is here. The welfare of millions is at stake," she said. "If Congress fails to act on an extension of the UI program 2 million Americans will lose their unemployment insurance by the end of the year. And millions more could join their ranks in the coming months. As a nation, we simply cannot let this come to pass. Politics should never punish those who need help most, and it should never get in the way of sound policy. Congress must pass this important extension. Americans — all of them — are depending on it."

JEEZUS....correct me if I'm not understanding the point she is making, but does she consider sitting on your azz collecting unemployment a JOB?!?! Apparently that's what some [unemployed] Americans consider a job. We try to find people jobs everyday, and people turn them down because they still have unemployment coming, and they keep extending it. Therefore, people continue sitting on their azzes. When do they start looking for a job?? They start looking right when unemployment runs out. Hey...why you looking for a job? "Well, my unemployment ran out...." Brick wall

The Lib talking point (I guess, my local news ran it...) The money is immediately spent. Grocery stores Christmas shopping....etc.

Kinda like when she said the food stamp money for every dollar spent is worth $1.79........Only in CA could she get elected.

It's not like they (the people spending unemployment funds) are doing it just to stimulate the economy or create jobs. Not talking It's called "survival."

You're both morons and the only wish I extend to you is that you both lose your jobs, house, car, and retirement within the next year. I don't want you to lose everything, just all that you hold dear, and a bit of your arrogance and pride. Start over and see if you're a bit more intelligent regarding the struggles of MANY Americans right now. Good luck to you both.

Bitter much?

When someone continues to turn down work because unemployment keeps getting extended, what's their excuse? I understand not everyone on unemployment is doing this, but it happens A LOT. I'm sure there are countless many who do this either because they don't want to work or maybe unemployment may be paying a little more than the job they could take. Government needs to do something to encourage business to grow/hire. Right now they are encouraging people to sit around unemployed and doing more things to discourage companies to hire. COMPANIES DO NOT HAVE ANY FAITH IN THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT OR THE ECONOMY.

By the way, how low does one have to get in order to wish ill upon others?

D-smoker - What makes you assume the people you wish ill upon because they voice an opinon different from yours haven't struggled in the past? That they haven't had a period of unemployment, and maybe had to sell something, or maybe even lost nearly everything because of a job loss and had to start over?

You also seem to operate from a position that anyone who is doing OK right now is doing so only because they are "lucky", and anyone who isn't is solely because they're "unlucky".

And you still haven't told us how much Soros pays you per week.

Extending the CURRENT TAX RATES (Since when did the absence of an increase = cut?)
to ALL vs Not Extending it to anyone w/ income >$ 1million/ yr
Assuming all things equal (we'll get into that in a minute),

would increase revenue collected by $700 million.
You really wanna risk further economic downturn over chump change like $700 million?!

BUT

Who makes more than $1 million per year?

Sure, the list includes:
Wall St types & some CEOs
Movie, Rock, and Sports Stars
Really good doctors and Lawers
A bunch of the people we all like to vilify.

But a lot of these millionaires are people who own small to medium businesses.
Distributorships
Small niche manufacturors
Maybe a half dozen gas stations or donut franchizes
specialty professional consultants

DSMokers -
These are people of the community.
Many of them will only ever make the good money for a year or two.
And THEY PROVIDE JOBS!!
You think some of them won't retire, sell out, or just shut down?
Why should they bust their asses and continue growing their business if the rate of return just got cut in half?
Picture this: "last year I kicked ass and grossed 1.3 million. But after taxes, I only made a little bit more that the year before when I grossed 950. I may as well have just settled back and collected my 950k instead"
It can be a drastic disincentive, creating a cutoff point after which there is little marginal return on additional effo

wow
I just had a flashback
My first day in my new job as a roofer, back in the day.
We were ripping off old roofing.
About 11:00 the guy who seems to be knida the second banana of the crew comes up to me, and quietly says "slow down. were milking this job, plus you might piss those guys off if you make them look bad."

But I digress:
Why do you hate the people around you?
Why don't you want your neighbors to get the jobs provided by our hardworking american hero entrepreneurs?

Why is it hard to understand that we need to get back to the American Way of growing the size of the pie instead bickering over it's (re)distribution, as while we fight over crumbs things get worse and worse.

Yep, I hit it pretty low at one time. I went to the unemployment office once and decided I couldn't just collect money for nothing (a personal thing with me). I did the last thing I wanted to do - join the military. But, it put food on the table and that was the goal. And, I did end up selling nearly everything I owned to include personal wedding gifts, furniture, stereo's, tv's (didn't have one for years), guitars, dishes, and my plasma..... Sometimes ya gotta do what you gotta do to survive.

As a child myself, I remember only having bread and milk and nothing else to eat. We couldn't even buy toilet paper - had to use newspapers, rags, and whatever we could get our hands on. But, I think this made me appreciate what I did have and I take NOTHING for granted and am thankful for every little thing I have. Hell, I was 40 before I stopped pulling nails, straigtening them, and reusing them.....rusty ones too......I know many of you have been there yourselves..... I just think it's part of being free - freedom isn't always fun and games.

Look. The problem is they keep treating the symptom not the disease. Regulation and taxation have created a anti-business climate, so no jobs.....period.

So if the Govt. Doesn't get the F outta da way, what......extend to lifetime? Some would like that.

I have no problem with large coorporations tax breaks. These coorporations create millions of jobs which does more for the economy than taxing the hell out of a coorporation. Frankly, it's simple economics and I don't understand why people don't get it. Our free enterprise system has to have people at all levels for the economy to work.

People badmouth Walmart all day long. Frankly, Walmart employs thousands upon thousands of people who couldn't get jobs elsewhere. While many think they are ripping their employees of, they are creating jobs, cutting prices, and providing a valuable service. They are expressing free enterprise in it's truest form. Of course, others want them to unionize which will shut down Walmart in most places and raise the cost of goods to where no one wants to shop there.

Chiefburg, that is a great story and thanks for sharing that.

Times are changing, so is the economy and the drivers that steer it. Oil based is becoming organic based, and the whole thing is shifting. It'll be a fun few years and the survivors are going to be tested. Those that think they have it sussed are in for a change they are not ready for. Keep your eyes on it, it's going that way. They fun is JUST starting.

President Obama's tragic mistake was to blow out the U.S. federal balance sheet on spending that has produced little bang for the buck. The fantastical Keynesian notion (the "multiplier") that $1 of spending produces $1.50 in growth was long ago demolished by Harvard's Robert Barro, among others. That $1 in spending has to come from somewhere, which means in taxes or borrowing from productive parts of the private economy. Given that so much of the U.S. stimulus went for transfer payments such as Medicaid and unemployment insurance, the "multiplier" has almost certainly been negative.

His arrogance won't allow him to make the right choice. He's hellbent on proving that only through Alinsky's teachings and treasonous behaviors that America MUST be destroyed. He's Soros' puppet. He was bought and paid for by a media that bent at the waist and tingled up their legs for the Empty Suit. They didn't know what they were getting but they weren't going to vote for GW Bush (not that it was even a possibility!) ever again. The real shame in the Kenyan King's anointment was the total dismantling of a Free Press to vet this candidate. They fell down to their knees with their Lewinsky kneepads on to line up and usher in God knows what but it wasn't Bush. Now that Bush is no longer in office where is the Hope and Change? I'm not talking about the failed leadership or the same old ideas that don't bear fruit either. I'm talking about the stuff that was supposed to "transform America". All I see is an arrogant simple-minded man with no executive experience in anything from running his own business to running a state's government.

Where's the "green shoots"?

Where's the "J-O-B-S"? You know...the 3 letter word Biden touted?

No, Pelosi and her ilk were showed the door. All that's left from blowing out the mythical Blue Dog Democrats is the fanatical nutjob moonbat radical Left. Let them have their fun now in a lame duck session. The rest of them get shown the door in 2012. Whatever is left (buh-bye Lindsey Graham!!!) can get flushed in '14.

This spending on top of spending on top of printing fake money has killed America.

My dear man. Again I ask, why all this hostility if you are in fact, not angry?

"1st you yell "Ghost" at every post." No I didn't. In fact, I have no clue what you are talking about. Yelled "ghost" about what? I joined in on a few discussions, giving my opinion, which, different than yours and a few of your friend's went over like a lead balloon. You saw it as your chance to vent all of your hostility that you hold inside thanks to the outrage that you feel you MUST have since your propaganda media overlords that control your every thought from the music you listen to, to the toilet paper you buy, have TOLD you that there is this invisible enemy out there trying to destroy you, and that enemy is a liberal. How to define a liberal? Anyone that makes you think, reason, or somehow get you to actually use your head as a creative tool instead of a sponge to soak up advertising bs from corporate giants that PAY money to TELL you what you to do. I never yelled ghost.

"Then you admit you're Jimmy." I never did that either. You convinced yourself yet again that I MUST be him. 6 billion people have access to this website, but clearly I must be this one person that you love to hate. Again, you're looking for an outlet for your anger, and not only did you catch a liberal, but boy, you got the droomster! I'm sorry, but you're wrong.

"Then you revert back to your past behaviors...drug usage talk...soiling underware...racist bs." Drug usage talk? Would it be okay if I talked to you about being a drunkard then? Is that acceptable to you. Apparently it is, yes? Again, a drunk calling a stoner a pothead is a really funny person. And sad.

"Then you follow me from post to post screaming that I'm threadjacking." That's because you do threadjack. You take any thread that I post on, even if I'm simply giving my opinion, and make it about me.

"PUT THE PIPE DOWN JIMMY." Why would I do that? I think you need to pick one up.

Again, why all the hostility?

So our office has been quite busy the last couple weeks with people coming in looking for work. Actually, it's the busiest I've seen it in a long time, and we have plenty of positions to fill. Then all of a sudden we don't see as many people coming in. Strange. Think It makes you wonder, "what happened?" Then it hits ya...."oh yeah...they just extended unemployment AGAIN."

Let's hear it for Pelosi's economic stimulus plan. I'm sure all those people who we could've put to work but decided to stay at home and continue collecting unemployment (welfare) will help the economy much better than had they been working and earning a paycheck.

But here's the good news. The unemployment rate is the percentage of the economically active population who are not working but want to work and are actively looking for employment. Keeping that in mind, I'd say the actual unemployment rate, in reality, is considerably lower. It's probably more like 6%...which isn't so bad considering the current economy. Anxious
