Eric Clapton - 461 Ocean Boulevard (Deluxe Edition)

I remember when this album hit the store I was working in. Immediately slit one open, turned up the volume and put it on. Midway through “Motherless Children”, the store manager came into our department and told me to turn it down. Begrudgingly did what he said (sigh). Guess he didn’t realize it was Clapton’s first studio album in 4 years. Brick wall

Happy Belated 74th Birthday EC!

Heard Chris’ version of “Tennessee Whiskey” for the first time a couple nights ago (...thanks Jamie...) so inspired by that, decided to give CS a longer listen. Still far so good.

first heard him a few years ago when (mia) tyyler sent me a Steeldrivers cd.

Blind Faith - self-titled first (and only) album

Bought the original album cover version (...the one with the half-naked teenage girl...) back in the day.

In 2009, got to see Winwood & Clapton in Las Vegas. Great show!

Howlin’ Wolf - The Howlin’ Wolf London Sessions (Deluxe Edition)

Been awhile since I listened to this.

I remember finding the original release LP in the Cutout section in ‘73 or ‘74 for something like $1.99.

Conan,
I saw on the FB page “I Loved Radio Free Hawai’i” that a guy with a massive record collection just sold it to Ideas and Books. When I get out there I am going to hunt that place down. I think it was a lot of 80’s and 90’s Alt music. My wheelhouse.

Was one of my favorite albums for a long, long time....probably still in my top 20.

This post made me seek out some other one (album) hit wonders...

Been listening to...

The Modern Lovers...eponymous....less edgy than punk of the time...sort of pre new-wave punkish....good....not quite my style, but good

The La's - eponymous -- makes me think of R.E.M. would have sounded like if R.E.M. would have been better....funny, the one song I recognize...the hit, 'There She Goes' is the low point of the album...

Rockpile - Seconds of Pleasure - meh

Monks - Black Monk Time -- Not really sure what to call this....there's a little bit of lots of different stuff in there...not quite punk....stripped down Black Keys-ish at times....maybe a little surf guitar influence... with psychadelic distortions....the vocals are too raw for me, but I was never tuned into punk-type vocals...

Green River - Rehab Doll - I lived outside Seattle for a time and am familiar with most of grunge's family history, but this one should be talked about with Temple of the Dog and Mother Love Bone...somehow it has escaped me until now

if it's the band that did Radio On, they were a suburban Boston group led by Jonathan Richman who might still be banging around. A couple of other members played with people like the Cars and stuff.

I think they had other albums but that Radio On song is still great and was about what us locals called Route 128 (now mostly called route 95).

also, someone gave me a copy of The La's. Always thought There She Goes would work in a shampoo commercial...which it may have done.

I used to have a '68 Road Runner. Fixed it up, had it painted. Was the nicest '68 Road Runner on Oahu.

The oil embargo killed me. Eventually sold it to my older brother in exchange for some $$$ I (foolishly) owed him. The car just sat and he eventually sold it to some guy who was gonna use it for parts! ram27bat

Pink Floyd - Animals

Some of the darkest, most cynical lyrics Roger Waters ever wrote. It also happens to fit even better with the times now than it did in 1977.

You guys are mentioning the Modern Lovers. Their self titled 1976 album "The Modern Lovers" is a desert island album for me. LOVE that album.

Led Zeppelin - How The West Was Won

Bought this when it first came out but don’t ever remember listening to the whole thing. Won’t happen this time as we’re gonna go out in about an hour. Maybe pick up where I left off next time I’m out in the garage.

Picking up where I left off yesterday.

Led Zeppelin - How The West Was Won

On the one time I saw them in concert, somewhere around 1971, we went to the early show that lasted only about an hour and 15 minutes. Felt like the soundcheck for the later show.

76F / 63% RH / 9 mph - after a morning and early afternoon of babysitting and then yard work afterwards, sitting out in the garage feels great

Whipped through a bunch of B.O.C. .....somehow I don't remember so much of it being so lousy. I don't get it. I loved a lot of it....appreciate some that I don't like...and now dislike a ton. The blues guitars and heavy licks mostly seemed to evolve into poppish garbage....and still, they were capable of putting out occasional decent stuff later:
..not sure what to make of them anymore.

Back in the '70s, I saw BOC live at least a dozen times, and Soft White Underbelly(BOC incognito) another 4 or 5 times. I thought they were fantastic, probably one of the best laser shows ever.
A few years back I went through and listened to all the old albums I used to love, and came to the same conclusion you did....I think it was me, and I just outgrew it. Maybe I matured, but I refuse to believe that!! There are still a few I enjoy, but BOC just doesn't do it for me anymore....that being said, I used to and still really like this song....

Speaking for myself, sometimes those “youthful activities” blurred my listening experiences, of course, ymmv. Whistle

But you know, there was a time, in the early to mid ‘70s, when BOC had a fair amount of radio play and their albums sold decently well so you / we weren’t alone.

Somewhere I still have the 12” promo of “Godzilla” taken from “On Your Feet or On Your Knees”.

“Oh no, there goes Tokyo...”

Inspired by the Netflix rockumentary “Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago”:

Chicago II

Although I bought the CD when it first came out, would hazard to say that I hadn’t listened to the whole album since high school.

Garbage - Garbage

Spent many a wasted night watching Butch Vig in clubs in Madison, WI playing with Spooner. Was a couple decades before I made the connection between those shows and Nevermind, Siamese Dream, Shirley Manson, FF, etc. The guy was a decent enough drummer, but he sure had the Midas touch as a producer

A mixed CD I called “Soul Stuff” ‘cause it’s all soul / r&b songs from the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Songs range from The Winston’s “Color Him Father” to Edwin Starr’s “War” and everything in-between.

Every few months, I get the itch to pull out an old album and crank the volume all the way up. Piledriver by Status Quo. These guys have been rockin hard since 1968 but I never heard of them until I picked up some used vinyl a few years ago. Turns out they have had 60 songs in the UK charts.

I was in bustling Downtown Concord N.H. visiting my local , and when I was leaving I heard someone playing Sax up on the next street over, so I walked over and there was a homeless guy jamming away on Little Bitty Pretty One, and he was really good. I stuck a little token of appreciation into his sax case, and was treated to The Theme From the Pink Panther, and then he launched into Tequila...the song not the beverage....man, I really enjoyed listening to him play, and he was having a pretty good time himself.

JJ was original one for this one I think. Have you heard Poco's version? I like it better. Much slower and a little more musicianship. The live version is even better.
