Smoking a Cuban cigar and drinking the last of my Havana Club 7 so the perfect piece to complete the trifecta.

76F / 66% RH / 9 mph - except for the small occasional drops of rain, perfect night out on the driveway

Traffic - Last Exit

Probably my 'least favorite' Traffic album....and yet, I'd rather listen to this than my 'favorite' album by most groups

Gypsy...relatively unknown band from UK....not to be confused with not quite so relatively unknown US band...around the same time
Only stumbled in from a youtube referral....pretty good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFi-Gwar3VU

Interesting....guitar work starting around 14:30 is totally ripped from Neil Young

Actually, not just the guitar....the bass and drums, too...not sure if it's tribute or stealing....lol

Neil's back again around 22-24...this time with Buffalo Springfield....Mr. Soul?

I’m guessing that unless you had the album, most people never heard Part 2.

So...that's the 'other Gypsy'....some similarities....I like them both....that particular song also has some Neil Young guitar going on, and some Jefferson Airplane 'harmony'...a little Santana going on, too

This is about all I could find on the 'British Gypsy':
http://www.alexgitlin.com/npp/gypsy.htm

They played the '69 Isle of Wight festival -- that one and '70 are right up there with Woodstock as ones I'd have liked to have seen

Listened to a couple of tunes on their web/utube -- I like it...they drift a little too close to Maroon 5 territory at times, but I like it

sometimes....rarely...lol...sometimes, I miss Seattle

So a small flood of memories had flowed in.

Since you mentioned Santana, immediately thought of Jorge and his band:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TtVXsfkVADk

One of the songs of my youth.

The ‘70 IoW - one of Jimi’s last performances. It’s great to have the DVD but nothing like seeing him live...although, when I saw him, he looked uncomfortable / bored playing his old stuff.

Another group recommended to me was St. Paul and the Broken Bones

Although more rock-ish, the lead vocalist sounds a little like Al Green at times!

In the comments (speaking on Cream): "Three geniuses at war with each other"

Best description I've ever heard of Cream. As much as I admired each of the members, I was never a fan. This is awfully interesting, however.

Here's something I found on the Bruce/Baker feud....an interesting take on getting the last word...

https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimclash/2016/01/21/famous-rock-feuds-jack-bruce-on-ginger-baker-and-ginger-literally-on-jack/#6bd9bdd5a147

I also saw an interesting documentary on Netflix about Ginger Baker about a year or so ....if accurate, he does seem like a guy who might be a bit hard to get along with....the doc, is called "Beware of Mr. Baker"....at one point he gets pizzed off at the director, and smacks him in the face with his cane, breaking the director's nose...ram27bat

I never truly gave them a good listen. I also understand that Richard is an excellent guitar player.

Any particular album you’d recommend?

Marvin Gaye - What’s Going On (40th Anniversary Edition)

An all-time album. Many, if not all of the themes Marvin sang about 48 years ago still hold true today.

77F / 73% RH / 8 mph - was just about to light up my 2nd smoke of the day when a brief shower chased me back inside the garage... and then after I was all set up again, the rain stopped d'oh!

currently listening to a 4-cd box set I picked up at the library. Let me look into it a bit...

But Richard has had a loooong career, plays all sorts of stringed things, sort of the guitar players' guitar player. never made an album with $$$ in mind. But when I listen to some of his stuff, there is a dark, sinister feel to it. Not all, but there are a few bloody themes here and there (Did She Jump or Was She Pushed is one such song).

He's gone from folky/folk rock to hard rock to acoustic and all around every one of those genres...yet still an acquired taste when it comes to sales/success/public acceptance.

many considered his Shoot Out the Lights era his best. He does sometimes coax some different types of breaks and licks than the typical guitar slinger.

so just discovered my ipod is dead so I couldn't scan through it for titles.
and when I retired our IT guy accidentally lost my computer version of the same (7,000 songs!) so I'm now hoping the Geniuses at Apple can save my ipod.

But the compilation I am currently working through is called Walking on a Wire...1968-2009 and has a nice sampling of his styles. He began around 1967 and recently released a new cd called 13 Rivers...I have not heard it yet, some good reviews. . I also have not heard over half of what he has done.

I think he once flirted with Islam, not sure and wouldn't care anyway.

I recall the names of a couple cd's I have somewhere The Old Kit Bag and Sweet Warrior, but there may or may not be better.

sorry. wish I could be more help.

found a few more I have...but I am by no means any kind of expert on the guy:

Action Packed
Front Parlour Ballads
Mirror Blue
More Guitar
Rumor and Sigh

also just read about him on allmusic.com
has struggled to sell albums even more than I thought, but the bio did remind me what I had heard many years ago...that he was considered a "must see live" more than a hit maker.
Sorry I passed a couple of times to see him because people were always blown away.

such a build up, you can't possibly not end up let down!

ZZ Top - Tres Hombres

Saw them for the first time in January 1973 when “That Lil’ Ol’ Band from Texas” opened up for The Rolling Stones. Although up until then they only had released two albums, they played some songs from “Tres”. I couldn’t say that they blew the Stones off the stage but we were mightily impressed.

Although he plays on only two cuts, Jaco Pastorius shows everyone what a talent he is (was). So sad that this genius had too many demons to overcome.

2019 RnR HOF inductees. While I did enjoy their music, as well as Bryan Ferry’s solo stuff, for some reason, never did take a great shine to either.
