Ron Wood - I’ve Got My Own Album To Do

Vastly underrated solo album by the then Faces guitarist.

Not too sure why but I started humming “Never Been To Spain” earlier this evening so did a quick Spotify search and now listening to Waylon Jennings’ version of it. Next up will be Three Dog Night’s version. Small outrage: no Hoyt Axton version on Spotify!

Rod Stewart - Never a Dull Moment

My favorite Rod solo album. Best line: “He’s got a lot more money than sense” - from the lead track, “True Blue”

82F / 69% RH / 8 mph - light drizzle earlier but the air is so humid it’s bound to pour later on

So many great lines from Rod Stewart back then.....and the music....sadly, to me, that was his final album...he went from incredible to unlistenable in ten seconds flat

A little old fashioned but that's all right

always preferred his Rod Stewart Album and Gasoline Alley over all the rest. Thinking that those were the first two solo efforts?
Also preferred Truth and Beckola over his mid and late career stuff.

I listen to Every Picture Tells a Story a few times a year....Maggie May saturated the airwaves way back when, but I never got tired of it

And then, the line from Every Picture....."the women I've known, I wouldn't let tie my shoe"....makes the entire album

I can listen to I know I'm Losing You every day...and his version stands pretty tall even against Rare Earth and, even the Temptations

Every Pic would be #5 for me.
But I became turned off shortly after that when he went from nothing to jet setter...and no, Rod. I don't think you're sexy.

The only way I would want to see Keith Richards and Willie Nelson die would be for them to kill each other in a duel. That would seem about right.

Saw the Faces in. ‘75 with Tetsu on bass. They still rocked! We got to see glimpses of Britt Ekland too.

Four years later, Rod was back as a solo artist on his “Blondes Have More Fun” tour but by then he had sold out.

Beach Boys - Surf’s Up

Released during the summer going into my junior year in h.s., I totally disregarded this album. Four years later in college I suddenly discovered this recording and the social consciousness the BB were singing about. Funny (...well, not really...) how many of the songs are still relevant today.

Yesterday, I listened to Wake Up Everybody by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. The title song has been worming around in my ear since. Can't decide if its pure awesomeness or just a schmaltzy guilty pleasure.

Love, love, love that song! The lyrics and melody are awesome and Teddy's vocals ain't too bad either (...I keed, I keed...)

It's kinda sad that the lyrics in songs recorded 40-ish years ago could still be applied to today's world.

New Rammstein. We had a hellacious lightning storm last night (the kind I've only seen in the deep south). Rammstein made for perfect driving music in that.

BTW, a ferry ride on the Puget Sound during a lightning storm is flippin' incredible. Woot!

_____

Blackfoot - Train, Train

Oh, here it comes
Well, train, train, take me on out of this town
Train, train, Lord, take me on out of this town
Well, that woman I'm in love with, Lord, she's Memphis bound
Well, leavin' here, I'm just a raggedy hobo
Lord, I'm leaving here, I'm just a raggedy hobo
Well, that woman I'm in love with, Lord, she's got to go
Well, goodbye pretty mama, get yourself a money man
Goodbye, pretty mama, Lord, get yourself a money man
You take that midnight train to Memphis
Lord, leave me if you can
Oh, take that midnight train to Memphis
Lord, leave me if you can
Oh, take that train, baby

Duane’s slide seems more “screamy” than the other two nights. Wonder if he was using a different guitar?

The good and bad about working in a record store:

Good - we used to be able to listen to new artists / releases before they hit the shelves. It was SOP for the record companies to send out demos of the new albums a week or so prior to shipping to the distributors or stores. As such, we would listen to all the new stuff and in a lot of cases, tell which ones were gonna be hits. When “FCA” came out, we knew it would sell. What we didn’t know is that it would be a mega hit...which then led to the Bad:

Bad - when an album would become popular, it seemed like every Tom, ****** and Harry would come into the store and request that we put an album that was a hit but had been pumping out hits for like the last 4 months. I mean, really, you never heard any songs from this album? Coupled with constant airplay, we would eventually grow sick of the albums. “FCA” was a perfect example. While I did like it initially, I heard so much of it I just grew sick of Frampton (...and specifically, “FCA”...). The guy is a damn good guitarist too but most people overlook that.

“Silk Degrees”!

Yet another example of an album that I liked in the beginning and then hated after too much store and radio play.

Strangely though, years later I came back to like the album and even bought the CD when it came out. Les Dudek on lead guitar was the bomb!
