So, I'm relatively new to cigar smoking...chit, who am I kidding, I'm the epitome of a N00B! Anxious I've been smoking cigars for about 5 weeks now, at 1 cigar per evening. I started smoking cigars as a means to quite smoking cigarettes, and it has worked. w:d/

I've been experimenting with different sticks. So far I've tried some (i) local home-rolled cigars that my B&M offers at a decent price (~$6/stick for a 6" 50), (ii) Rocky Patel Edge, Old World Reserve, Vintage '90, and Burn, (iii) San Lotano Maduro, (iv) Perdomo Tierra del Sol, (v) LFD 2000 Series, (vi) few other sticks around the $5 - $8 MSRP price point, and (vii) an AF 858 Maduro last night!

Although I've enjoyed most of these smokes, with the exception of the LFD 2000 Series, I've got to say that I absolutely fell in love with the AF 858 Maduro that I had last night. Love It was the best tasting cigar I've had thus far and felt so inclined to tell all of you about it (although I'm sure you've all sucked down many of these in the past). Are all AF cigars as good as this one? I read on a post that the Sungrown line is also well perceived by many smokers. Any recommendations comparable to the AF 858 Maduro are GREATLY appreciated! This may be a bit short-sighted on my end, but I'm thinking about buying a box of the 858 Maduro to just keep around, that's how much I enjoyed this cigar!

As a Fuente whore I will agree that is a mighty fine cigar! If you are looking for a treat in the AF line then the Shark, 48, and 49's are excellent!

Thanks, Gentlemen. This has been the first cigar that I've had where I was actually able to discern different flavors/notes. Maybe it's my palate maturing, or maybe it's easier to identify with this particular 'gar. Who knows, but I genuinely enjoyed smoking this bad boy for over an hour last night.

Well first off welcome aboard PMA!!! And although I was at first unimpressed with the Fuente line in general, I now enjoy a number of them (mostly the maddies )

I'm not sure if I'm ready to use the "W" word to describe my cigar tastes but certainly a BIG AF admirer. Hemingways in particular. So pma, "broaden your horizons" and check out that series, I'm pretty sure you'll like them too.

You'll find the Fuente 's to be very well made. They smoke consistently well. and have a nice price point.

If you want a treat get your hands on some Opus X Power Rangers. The Anejo's are also tasty. There is a sungrown in the 8-5-8 line that is also a treat, but they only ship in the early spring and late fall if I'm correct.

Overall you can't go wrong with any Fuente except the curly head.

I've got my eyes on the Hemingways per a few recommendations. I'll be sure to pick up a 5 pack when I find a decent deal. BTW, what's the "W" word?

HAHA! I'm not bidding on anything right now (except for a larger humidor). I've brought home 50+ cigars over the past week and my wife's starting to lose it! Maybe I'll hide the new humidor under my staircase and start secretly stashing... Whistle

Hmm...been there...done that...still doing that....

Wifey seems okay with the 3 20-25 ct humidors, she hasn't seen the 75 ct that I have buried / hidden in my t-shirt dresser nor the coolerdor in the closet (...altho' for the life of me can't figure out why she hasn't asked about it yet, it's there in plain sight and to top it off, it's kinda bright orange...sorta just waiting for the day when she finally does...) I used to use the 75 ct as my "aging" humidor so *tried* not to open it up too much. However, I'd usually peek into it once a week or so. Either to pull a stick out or to add stuff in when a shipment came in and those cigars were destined to be aged. Now that I have the cooler set up (...open it up to let fresh air in every 2 weeks...), I don't go into the 75er too much but just went in last night to pull out a Signature. BTW, I only go into it when my wife is taking a shower so that there's no way she finds out about it. Wink

She's a keeper (at times). Maybe I'll just find a space towards the back of my closet to age new purchases in the large humi (150 count) that I'm bidding on.

Funny noobs, trying to hide your little stashes from the wife. I have a 120 count and 250 count in the living room. I also have 3 coolers in the basement. I found out a few months ago, that she thought I had 5 coolers. I had to show her that the other 2 where empty. She's never, ever complained about my cigars.

It's better that you guys are honest with your wives, instead of her finding your hidden "stash" and all he11 breaking loose. Tell her that many of the fogs here have 1,000, 2,000, 5,000+ cigars, and you only have a tiny handful in comparison.

For Father's Day, she told me to buy a box of something really special. I had to tell her that I had enough cigars for now, and that we really couldn't afford spending a few hundred on something special. The poor girl looked sad and hurt. 34 years with her, and she's still the greatest.

You just don't see that anymore, do you? My parents have been married for 35 years; grandparents were married until they passed away. It's awesome to see people sticking together through thick and thin. I tip my hate to you, Dave.

Remind me of a story I read a while back: A reporter asked a couple, "how did you manage to stay together for 65 years." The wife replied, "we were born in a time when if something was broken we would fix it, not throw it away." Seems like a foreign concept these days.

Yup, strange concept in today's world.

My wife and I make 31 years in a couple of weeks. Best part is that there'll be a bunch of fireworks and parades that day too (...July 4...) to help celebrate it.

Rut-Ro hit it on the nose, the sooner you bring your passion (addiction) to her attention the sooner you can start saving money. She'll understand, eventually. You'll be surprised after she has a few drinks and you introduce her to one of your favorite cigars. she may even sit and smoke with you every now and then.

Actually this was one of my first Fuente experiences, and floor sweepings or not, construction issues or not, and there are some for sure, picking them up on the cheap, I still enjoy them as smokes on the disc course which is considerably tougher on a cigar than a ball golf course. For instance, yesterday afternoon, playing a round, scattered thunderstorms forecast, I lit one at the beginning of the round and stuck another in my bag. Twenty minutes into lighting the second one half way through the round, it started pouring rain. No worries, I'm out almost nothing. They aren't going to set the world on fire for taste, etc., but there isn't anything offensive, acrid or bitter. Just a mindless smoke.Herfing

Oh yeah, one of my hunting/fishing buddies smokes these exclusively, so I never have to think about what might suit him on the river.Herfing

I really appreciate you noobs doing as you where told, and leaving my 8-5-8s alone. Just won three 5 packs of Maddies for $14.01 each. That's like getting a box for $70.05. Not much more then folks pay for Curly Tops. Oh, and the 5 pack of Cubao #6 for $12.

As long as you folks remember your place, we'll get along just fine, lol. Sarcasm
