Jameson I got for Christmas, pretty good Irish whiskey, it was smooth as silk with a nice oak finish.

Big red VIP bourbon- 114pf LESV 5 Barrel small batch from MGP. I was trying to wait til my sinuses cleared up. I didn't get any of the fruit or sweet from the reviews on this one. Lots of spice and floral notes. Not sure if i should go buy 5 more or not. Going to try to revisit when feeling better.

Compared to a splash each of knob creek, Willett 15, and 2015 four roses ltd small. Four roses is clear winner haha

Had an old fashioned the other night made with wild turkey 101 rye. Went to one of the premier bars in the city. Overall it was pretty good, the bartender loaded up on angostura so it was nice and bitter. Did one of those fancy giant square ice cubes.

I revisited the VIP bottle last night. Got a lot of the sweet caramel vanilla and sugar notes that I didn't get the first time. I'm thinking my senses were wrecked from my cold/sinuses earlier in the week. I ordered an extra case today as its a on off product. Still not picking up all the fruit though.

Edit:

also for you malt heads out there, are there any Glendronach fans? The guys on reddit are always raving about it. Astor wines had a 19yr single cask on sale the other day so I decided to see what all the hype is about. Definitely pricey but the booze is supposed to be phenomenal.

The 12 year standard expressions that are bottled before 2012 or maybe early 2013 are actually significantly older as the distillery was moth balled form like 1996-2001 or something. The current bottled 15yr (its on a hiatus so the last bottles were from like 2015 and the old juice) and 18yr are significantly older as the last distilling season in those age ranges would've been 95 or 96 or whatever so right now they contain mostly whiskey that is probably 20+ years old... unless they've been dumping barrels and tanking them. Regardless they get great reviews and consensus is its worth the price for sherried scotch lovers.

One of the son's was in Dalton, GA this A.M. and stopped in a liquor store that he had visited a couple of times in the past. While checking out the stock he noticed a bottle of Pappy 15 and Pappy 23 on the shelf behind the checkout counter. Knowing they were not reasonably priced he had to ask. Pappy 15 was $799 and the 23 was $2299. Needless to say he did not purchase anything from this gouger.

You know what's funny Nick, since getting the CRUD....I too revisited the VIP and also did not pick up all the subtle notes I did initially. Can't wait to have rid of this crap....

Last night, an inch of Four Roses Small Batch ( hoping it'd help break up some of the crap in my chest )

Picked up 2 bottles of 1792 High Rye.

Paul you crack me up

It's an allocated bourbon so it's very difficult to find....or it is here. I think the Sip got around 50 bottles last year.

I know it won't be released again until late this year.

And when I pass on the price that I paid, you won't confuse me for being nice. $89.00

Missed this one! What did you think? The 2 cask strength bottles I have taste quite a bit like dill and something else herbal to me. Much more than any other MGP rye I've had. Some days I like it some days I don't.

If you like the SAOS rye, better go back where you found this and stock up. Its not regularly distributed anymore. Close 2nds would be any other MGP rye but the Willett and Redemption of similar age is prolly closest.
