It's been a long while since I had a bottle of Pappy.........all that being said yes and no.The Pappy is good but at twice the price......No.I'll take the WLW 12 all day long over the PVW 13.Now when we bump it up a notch to the PVW 21.............ya know a hundred bones versus 25 for some great 12 year old bourbon,I think I still go with the WLW 12 YO.I don't even drop a c-note on a great bottle of Scotch any more.

Ron

Any Balvenie is good IMO.

Frank have you tried W.L.Weller 12 yo?I'm impressed at 25 bones.Something about this 12 yo stuff....Elijah Craig is another good friend and about the same price.Believe it or not I like both better than Elmer.

I'm pretty sure I have had the WLW 12 but it's been quite a while. Often, but not always, I prefer wheated bourbon over what can be overly spicey rye types. I will go searching for a new jug ASAP! You are generally right on the mark and I seem to recall liking it more than the 107 proof Weller.

I also like E Craig alot, but I'd have to snag a bottle and do a taste test with Elmer before I'll commit that EC is better. But you are correct, the pricing is silly, especially since I have been able to find Elmer for $24. Either way, it's a no lose debate.

Moving up a step or two (or 3) in price, have you tried Rock Hill Farms? About $40-45 around here, but worth it at least once...in my opinion anyway.

Which is the Dickel you like so much? Every time I go to the shpo I am not sure what to buy.

I have had the doublewood also (great stuff) but this was Caribbean Cask, aged in rum casks instead of sherry, I am very new to scotches but this stuff is so good. Had it with a great HDM petit robusto tonight, the smoke supplied nice soft spiciness in the long finish and the scotch was smooth and sweet as a chaser...relaxation and stress reduction was achieved!

Wish I had a 'gansett to go with it, eh?

Never was a fan of 'gansett, but I left RI when I was 17, so my exposure was limited. What I really miss about being in RI is clam cakes, chowder, stuffed quahogs, and the ridiculously good fishing, be it lake or salt water.

Oh, and the women... aggressive little vixens with a sarcastic charm. Anxious

Stuffies.
and Del's.

Gansett sucked! But not long ago one of the guys from something like Nantucket Nectars or Snapple or such bought the rights to gansett and has tried to create a line of drinkable beers. I wish him luck just for the sentimental value of the name.

But this is a whiskey thread so I'll make it legit by saying...Sandy Scot Scotch, the Narragansett of Scotches.

Tyyler is on his way down here for a tour and tasting at Balcones Distillery. The great thing, other than herfing with John, is they have a few bottles of their 5th Anniversary stuff for sale. After the tasting I think we head off to our local to watch the last Baylor football game at the old stadium.

Lets see if I can remember................

Went to the Balcones Distillery with Tyyler and tried

5th Anniversary Bourbon
5th Anniversary Resurrection
Single Malt
something else
and something else

and walked out with a bottle of 5th Anniversary Bourbon and a bottle of Single Malt

afterwards we went to our local and met up with TJ, enjoyed some good cigars, and just in general had a dang good time.

A BIG thanks to Tyyler for being fast on the trigger to get the tickets to the event, he's a dang good guy!

Breaking & Entering

I really liked this bourbon but would not recommend it to most who are used to the prototypical sweetness of America's whiskey. It is nearly impossible to find out if it is "wheated" or a rye style bourbon, but based on the spiciness present I'd guess rye.

It's good, and it is serious. Not kid's stuff.

I've had the entire Weller Family and I like all of them........in their price range I've found no other wheated bourbons that even come close. The WLW 12 is the cream of the crop IMHO.Vanilla, caramel and just a tad of citrus on the finish but smooth as the inner thighs of a 16 yo prom queen.

That Elijah Craig is just off the charts good......$27.99 here.I think I told you 21.99 on the EC but that was the Corner Creek.......good bourbon but so many better in that price range.

Haven't tried the Rock Hill Farms but I have my sources looking.

Frank that Dickel is the Barrel Select. If you can't find the Barrel Select try the #12......very similar in taste but that BS is something special.

I completely understand!
Going for another B & E now. And I will make it my life's purpose to find both of those Wellers. I have seen a Weller product in a funny shaped bottle, round pot at the bottom with a very long thin neck. Is that one of them?

Yeah, Mikey! Only thing is...I really wished we had a little more time in the tasting room. Drank 6 samples of whisky in about 15 min. Tastebuds were burnt out by the 4th shot. and these ain't no 90 proof. Bourbon was at around 65% abv.

I think it was...Balcones...

-Single Malt
-Rumble Cask Reserve
-Texas Rum
-5th anni Bourbon
-Brimstone
-Brimstone resurrection

All this talk of Weller 12 and EC12....Gonna have to pick some up (and another bottle of OGD 114). I was eyeing the Dickel BS the other day...really that much better than #12? I would hope so with the price increase.

Yetserday had some basil hayden during 4 oclock games and just about finished what was left of my glenlivet 12 after dinner.

The basil I will now have a bottke at all times but the glenlivet I didn't care much for.

What was the price on the Dickel BS?Anything under 35 bones is a no brainer,35-40.......you still need to give it a shot, over 40 ask them if a kiss comes with the screwing.Depending on the answer.....and looks.

My sources have all dried up out here.......but I always keep my eyes peeled.

I think it was $35 - $40 on the Dickel BS, but the Dickel 12 is like $20 or so...I think.
Just didn't know if there was a '$15' difference in taste. I'll let you know if I find some.

Probably gonna kill the last of this OGD 114 tonight. Gotta have ice with this one though.
