Sorry, Conan, just saw this. If I’m completely honest, I didn’t like either one. The whiskey was completely unbalanced flavor wise and all I really tasted was heat and bitterness. Being a Wild Turkey 101 guy, I figured this would be the perfect Blanton’s for me at 103 proof. I was wrong.

To answer your question, the 2017 was not as hot, but still not good.

How is the SFTB?

Haven't yet come to a definitive decision. At almost 129 proof, it is a little hot (...in a good way...) so don't think I'll be drinking it neat that often (...the US expression is much easier...). A little water really opened it up and with a large ice sphere, made it much easier to drink. With the ice, I got more flavors but being a lousy reviewer, can't really tell you what I smelled or tasted. As with all the Barrel Strength bourbons I have, I usually only drink them on the weekends when I'm home. After the 2nd glass, I can't remember chit! Laugh

However, with all of that said, would I buy more? Absolutely! Especially given the price I paid vs. what the 93 proof costs in Hawaii (...$75-ish vs. $55-$65...). Yeah, I know, 50 ml less in the SFTB but I feel more bang.

Btw, I still owe you a backscratcher. Whistle

Don’t go getting ideasram27bat

I started the Gold neat. Awful. Then a few drops of water. Slightly less awful. Then a couple of cubes. No change.

To be fair, my buddy loved it so it may be my palate. I told him I’d trade it back for some scotch from the UK when he goes in a few weeks.

I really need to try Lagavulin.

Tonight, back to the Caribbean Cask celebrating the Monkey Boys 4th consecutive conference championship. On to the NCAA tournament to end their careers.

Blanton's SFTB

Sunday dinner. Son asked if I wanted a drink so I told him to pick something. Nice pour with an ice cube.

Chris - really liking it. If your friend can get you a SFTB, I'd say, "Go For It!"

Congrats on the conference championship. Lagavulin is very good. The distillers edition is allocated and very hard to find. But it is worth the effort. It is great.

For me last night Dan Beer

Has been a good week or two for securing some good bourbon, heading out to pick up my bottle of Blantons Single Barrel Store Select that I was lucky enough to get through our Big Red VIP program. And today they sent out an e-mail for an opportunity to snag a twofer on 375ml bottles of Eagle Rare 10 yr Single Barrel from (2) different barrels for $40 ( nearly 12 yr old as it was barreled in 05 ) those should be in next week.
I hope our buddy namadio got in on these

Wild Turkey Masters Keep Decades.

Recently voted #3 best bourbon of 2017. This should retail around $150.

But I’ll bet the press drives the price way up. I’ll be getting a bottle just for the collection.

Glen Marnoch Bourbon Cask Finish

A friend brought this back from England. It’s more of a budget offering (NAS), but actually very impressive. Sort of a spicy Auchentoshan.

Just got back from a bourbon tasting / offering @ our Big Red liquors HQ where we had the opportunity to try several bourbons listed below:
We were given a number upon arrival, then were allowed to go in in pairs and select our bottles.

I was hoping for a bottle of the Rock Hill Farms but it was gone along with the EJ 18 YR & BP...when I got in there.

LIMIT: 2 DIFFERENT bottles per person – event starts at 11:00 a.m., first come, first served

Weller Antique 107 Single Barrel NCF 1.75 – 12 bottles
Weller Antique 107 750 – 12 bottles
Weller 12yr – 12 bottles
Rock Hill Farm 750 – 3 bottles
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof – 3 bottles
Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Sherry cask fin.– 6 bottles ( Meh )
Parker’s Heritage – 3 bottles
NEW Jim Beam Distiller’s Cut - Unlimited ( this was not terrible for a lower tier Beam bourbon )

Added when we arrived:

Elijah Craig 18 YR
Angels Envy finished rye

I scored the ones in BOLD. ( and Red ) Beer

Liking the 1920 more and more. Actually last nights pour but posted this A.M.

Nice score on the Weller 12 and Antique. I have decided that the Antique is more than a suitable sub for the 12 when it can not be found (which is most of the time).

Just presented the oldest cub with an early portion of this years Christmas gift. A bottle of Old Forest 2017 Birthday bourbon, he be real happy.
