Never been a big Jim Beam fan, but I wanted to give the new Jim Beam Black a try. I'm impressed, much better than I thought out would be.

Thanks, Paul. My life, since we met at age 15 (well, she was 16), has been unquantifiable better than I deserve. Hope y’all have a very merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Seems we have similar stories my friend, I am not worthy of my bride of 36 years...but I'm sure glad she stays. We too met in HS # age 17. Beer

A safe and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Basil Hayden's Dark Rye 2017 Release

gifted to me, KY straight rye whiskey blended with Canadian rye whisky and Port
interesting, different. it's like both the sweetness of the port and the spice of the rye have both been somewhat tamed yet still appear.

kind of a nice sipper, should go well with some cubans and maduros.

Basil Hayden Dark Rye

I tend to like Rye more but must say I was not impressed with the basil rye I bought last year. Found a bottle of the Basil Dark Rye though and love it. Hits my sweet spot perfectly and my local actually has it for less then regular Basil by couple $.

Last night at our shop's Christmas dinner:

Sazerac

Since it is now against Corporate policy for the company to buy alcohol at any function, I brought a new bottle of Sazerac and Havana Club 7 rum for people to try / drink.

I'm not a Jim Beam label fan either but do enjoy some of their other offerings to include Basil Hayden, Knob Creek and Baker's.

I was gifted a bottle of Beam's Distiller’s Masterpiece earlier this year will admit that I do enjoy an occasional pour from that bottle. It has a little of an edge to it but believe the sherry cask adds positive notes to the offering.

I personally would not pay msrp for a bottle but under the circumstance glad it is presently in the rotation.

Haven't had OG Basil in awhile but if it lost that sweet note in it I wouldn't bother anymore either. Besides that the price for Basil is almost the same as Bakers now and I like Bakers more just too dayum cheap to buy it. Try the Dark Rye Kipp it is not like any other whiskey out there. More on the sweet side and smooth as can be but nice for desert or night cap.

Hahaha! Frankie, you crack me up! LOL

Okay, how 'bout we go with "...the new sales guy charged with increasing our large-format color print revenue..."? For the record, he's a mix of Japanese-American, Spanish-American, Hawaiian (...they don't want to be hyphenated Americans...) and a bunch of odder stuffs. "Poi dog" would be the local way of describing him.

Just got my free tickets to the first Bourbon Live of 2018....put on by Big Red liquors here in IN. If we get there early enough my wife and I will have an opportunity to purchase (1) bottle per person from the list below. We're definitely wanting to get our hands on a bottle of ETL, just not sure about the second pick ( should we be so lucky ) but leaning toward the Thomas H Handy.
What would yous guys recommend? Those highlighted Blue we have @ least one bottle. Virtually none of the others have I tried.

Stagg Jr.
Elmer T Lee
Sazerac 6yr
Parker’s Heritage
WL Weller
Thomas H Handy
Booker’s Little Book
EH Taylor Rye
EH Taylor Small Batch
Weller Special Reserve
Weller 12yr
Weller Antique 107
Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch 2017

Paul.

Is the W.L. Weller actually William Larue Weller? If so, that would be my first pick followed by the Four Roses LE. I would take both of these over the ETL.

Dan,
I'm not sure on that one...but considering they have (4) separately listed Wellers as well as a couple of other BTAC bottles ( probably left from " Bourbon-Fest ) in that line-up.....It's a possibility for sure.

Mattie / Dan
We are BIG Four Roses fans and after reading the product description....it sounds Very VERY Good as they combined three different mash-bills. From their site:

A 15-year-old Bourbon from Four Roses’ OESK recipe, a 13-year-old OESK and a 12-year-old OESV were selected for this year’s Limited Edition Small Batch

Bottled at barrel strength, the remarkably balanced 2017 Limited Edition Small Batch introduces warm aromas of allspice and vanilla bean, mingled with rich apricot. Bright raspberry flavors greet the palate, then give way to hints of decadent sweet cherry and light oak. The finish is long, with notes of rich brown sugar and hints of cinnamon.

Oh and Thanks for both of your inputs. Beer

I actually stumbled into a bottle of this, this past weekend over in FL. I was really looking at their craft beer and did ask if they were hiding anything special along the lines of ETL. The answer was a resounding no. I looked around for a few more minutes and was about to leave when I realized there was a display case on the far end of the bourbon isle that I had not taken a look at. The first thing I locked in on was the bottle of the Four Roses LE 2017. The lady advised that it had been sitting there for a week and no one wanted it. Problem solved and when when I arrived home I handed the bottle to my wife told her not to worry about getting me a birthday gift. A win, win.

It was indeed and gone by the tine I got to pick...there were only three available. All of the BTAC' were gone as well as the Four Roses (which was $159 ) So my bride and I settled for 2 bottles of ETL. They also had a buy three and take an additional 20% off. So we went with three OF 1920 which was already @ $45 with discount they were $36 before tax.
They also had 50% off for this event on " store picks " so we decided to try Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single barrel for $25. They also had a cool little box of (5) 375ml bottles of Buffalo Trace Single Barrels that were selected from the same rick from the same warehouse in consecutive order / numbers ( 38-42 ) kind of an experimental thing to show enthusiasts how much different the same juice put into different barrels...aged the same amount of time and in the exact same area can affect the profile.
