Actually I had seen it many times and laughed it off........like the cigar. Then one day it popped up when I googling some Heaven Hill releases, that made it a must try.Glad I did, priced right, drinks more like a $30 bottle than a $17 bottle. Not to mention when I bring up Fighting K0cks with ZRX he laughs uncontrollably and starts talking about some shower he took in Vegas.I swear I was not there.

I haven't cracked the bottle yet. I've had it before, though, and as I recall... I liked it a lot.

Edit:

Alright, I poured myself a little. My memory served me right, it's a very good scotch. It's got a sherried sweetness, typical of the speyside, very slight oaky note, taste kind of lingers but it's pleasant. I'm surprised you haven't tried this... your moniker is speyside, afterall.

For the money... I think the Macallan 12 or the Balvenie Doublewood 12 at mid 40's are a better deal. It's better, for sure... but probably not 30 dollars better.

I have had the Balvenie Doublewood 17, though... and at $158, it's worth the extra coin. I should have sprung for that one.

Edit #2:

Perhaps it is worth the extra $30. Damn. This is really good. And I'm not quite drunk.

Edit #3:

It's worth the extra $30. Smooth as fkn butter. No burn, slight spiciness, the oakiness is what lingers, but it's pleasant. IIRC I smoked an Opus X with this, and the raisin notes complemented the drink.

Jesus... it's amazing what an old mind can recall when you splash it with a little booze!

$17. 103 proof.

this is dangerous stuff, not for beginners.

as I always do first time out, tried it neat, wouldn't do that by volume, but the definitive bourbon "sweet" was there, encouraging me to play with it.

kept adding drips of water, very difficult to tame, and then realized it shouldn't be too tame.

would have been easy to dismiss it as just very hot, but that would have been missing that it's actually very spicy, in my opinion.

got it to where the beautiful sweetness of bourbon was up front and the spice owned the finish, and I liked that, in that order. Long legs for sure, and it hangs on the inside of the glass forever.

A real bargain for anyone who has exceeded the Government Recommended Amount of Bourbon (GRAB) for one lifetime.

ZRX is so immatoor.

That was neat, brother. I never bothered to add a drop or two of water. Might be a whole new experience. I was enjoying it straight, though.

I get a very distinct vanilla oak and apple/pear right up front. The mouthfeel,I'll catch hell over that term,is quite thick and oily. The finish is red hots/spicy cinnamon........and quite long in my opinion. This reminds me of Old Grandad 114...........both have tons of flavor and just the right amount of fire on the end.

I'm just glad you enjoyed it Frank.I intend to keep a bottle on my shelf from now on.Just the name on the bottle alone is a great conversation starter.........well that's what ZRX told me,but he also said he keeps his in the shower.

you sort of added the specifics to what I got from it! and that thick oily mouthfeel probably explains why this stuff was hanging on the sides of the glass.

I'll get a back up for my bar, but only know a few people that I am certain would "get" it. Most might just get the heat...which is understandable.

Glad you told me about it. A steal for sure.

Jamie's a freak.

PA residents..........PA Wine and Spirits has a lottery going on, right now.

https://www.finewineandgoodspirits.com

Go to the "Events" tab, then select "Limited Release Lottery". I scored a bottle of Pappy here, last November. Here are the offerings for these lotteries:

Pennsylvania residents and licensees have from 9:00 a.m. February 12 until 11:00 p.m. Feb. 17, to opt in to one or all of the drawings!

Lottery One features: Booker's Kentucky Straight Rye, 136 Proof (barrel proof), aged 13 years: 12 bottles including 9 for individual consumers and 3 for licensees; each bottle costs $599.99

Lottery Two features: Four Roses Limited Edition 2017, 108 Proof (barrel strength), a blend of 15-, 13-, and 12-year-old bourbons: 101 bottles including 76 for individual consumers and 25 for licensees; each bottle costs $124.99

Lottery Three features: Parker's Heritage Collection Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey, 11th Edition, 122 Proof, aged 11 years: 120 bottles including 90 for individual consumers and 30 for licensees; each bottle costs $139.99

Lottery Four features: Elmer T. Lee Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 90 Proof: 432 bottles including 324 for individual consumers and 108 for licensees; each bottle costs $37.99

Separate drawings will be conducted for each of these limited-release bourbons, and lottery participants may opt into one, several or all drawings. Purchase is limited to one bottle per drawing.

Drawings will be conducted the week of February 19, and we hope to notify all winning and non-winning entries by the end of February.

Good luck!

always was an Elmer fan, same with many 4 roses... I recall you telling me to find Parker Heritage (I forget which)...never did find it, but even that sounds overpriced.

looking like Baker's tonight, or may see if the Kickin' Chicken is as good the second time around.

So I text Ron from the liquor store, askin about Old Forrester Statesman and Elijah Craig Barrel strength....and he keeps telling me I need to put the fighting Caulk in my mouth.....I assumed he meant the cigar or our Vegas shower party....but there it was Fighting Cóck bourbon.

Butt.......

I found Heaven Hill Old Style 6 year bourbon. The choice is clear.

Heaven Hill old style is a top notchoice 6 year old cheap bourbon. And Ron keeps texting me about the fighting caulk.....such is life.

FYI he can't find the Old Style I think we know what that means.

I would agree they are overpriced, based on retail pricing. However, all but the Elmer T., will be pretty difficult to get your hands on (at least in PA). The "Secondary Market" is another story...........

Booker's Kentucky Straight Rye 13 year old goes for around $800

Four Roses Limited Edition 2017 averages around $400

Parker's Heritage Collection Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey goes for around $350

Elmer T. Lee Straight Bourbon Whiskey goes for a paltry $100 (but a nice ROI)

Not that I would buy any of these to resell (which can be done fairly quickly) but you would have to be pretty lucky to find most of these at retail prices. They just get grabbed up by people with connections in most states.

I definitely would not pay $599 for the Booker's but the others, I will gladly pay the lottery "over" price,

Don't know the difference between ^ and regular Old World but their utilization of wine cask to finish the regular results in something special, IMHO.
