I was talking with my son about going to the movies to see Ender's Game and the topic of older movies I grew up loving came up. We decided we would do a movie night and watch two or three old movies that I loved as a kid and that I think he would love but probably never see because they just don't come on anymore. What movies would you guys pick? So far I've picked...

Slap Shot
Highlander
Dune
Young Frankenstein
The Quiet Man
Smokey and the Bandit
The Dirty Dozen
Airplane!

What movies would you guys suggest? I'm definitely going to pick Slap Shot but as for the rest it's up in the air.

How old is the kid? Or, is it regardless of age?

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Full Metal Jacket
Dirty Harry
The Cowboys
Outlaw Josey Wales
The list could go on and on they don't make movies like they used to.

I have to agree with Airplane and Young Frankenstein. I say little snippets from those movies and the kids I work with look at me like I'm senile.

Animal House was another one of my all-time favorites that I often quote.

He's 15 so some language or nudity isn't a big deal.

We watched Animal House already. He almost choked to death during the scene in the dean's office where the guy comes in with a chain saw to remove the dead horse he was laughing so hard;-)

Some good movies so far. I had Tora Tora Tora, the Princess Bride and Labyrinth in my mind already. Also the Dark Crystal popped into my head when I thought of Labyrinth. Patton is another really good one along with Spaceballs. I think so far it's going to be Slap Shot and Spaceballs. We also talked about Schindler's List yesterday. Need 1 or 2 more... keep them coming!

Back before cable I used to love Sunday afternoons. We always went to my grandfather's house for dinner(he was a chef) and I'd sit in the living room and watch an Abbot and Costello movie or Three Stooges movie while the whole house smelled of fresh baked bread and a roast or something in the oven. Every Sunday afternoon on channel 29 here in Philly on UHF they played a comedy movie and then something like a Sinbad movie. I loved those old stop motion animation Sinbad movies!
